Colin- I like it a lot! It’s raw and honest.

The question is not what you look at, but what you see.
-Henry David ThoreauJuly 24, 2019 at 11:35 pm #848619ColinS – that is a cool painting. Love the lines and composition. Oh and aren’t we both on the Pacific side still? Was there another earthquake?
Thanks everyone for the comments on my coastal day.

July 25, 2019 at 3:14 pm #848644Thank you Roadlesstaken for your comments.
I am glad you enjoyed the challenge, and I am so glad you did put a cat on the sill.
Do you really mean you have stray cats looking in.. my goodness. I never could / would imagine that.
Thank you so much for your wonderful input throughout this month. I so enjoy your comments.
cheers
Merri..No, not real stray cats peeking in! I do paintings from my imagination of stray cats looking into homes they would like to live in. I donate the paintings to animals shelters or other non profit organizations that find homes for stray dogs and cats. I make sure they know that they can use the art however they need to make the money or benefit for the animals. I had been written up in some paper in New Jersey way back when I first started doing this. I’ve since asked to remain anonymous.
Here’s one I made for a Cat cafe in Buffalo. The friend of a friend was opening a coffee house where cats up for adoption could meet humans and share a lap and hopefully, get a new home.Sorry for the bad photo but this painting has been placed and all I have is the blurry photo!

-Henry David ThoreauJuly 25, 2019 at 8:55 pm #848702Sheila, that is a wonderful gesture from you to help stray cats. The cat café must really appreciate your work especially if they sell it to help feed the strays.
Your painting is just beautiful, and idea behind it is lovely. We don’t have stray cats here…
I think with cats, they need to be indoors or contained at night time.
It’s around that cats are hunters and we have wildlife that don’t need to be eaten.Good job you!! I marvel at your resourcefulness Bravo
cheers
Merri.

"Painting is my meditation"July 29, 2019 at 9:54 am #848607I know I’m very late this month (maybe I should change the rules to 4 weeks!!!! ) – but, FWIW, I’ve managed an impressionistic one this morning.
My studio window looks onto the back garden (far too much to paint in the time) and the garage wall – so I chose that bit …… had to move easel and paint table and work against the light so I could paint from life.
It’s 5×7″, done on canvas paper over an old, textured, painting – not a good choice at that size – took about an hour/1hr 15.Thanks for hosting Merri – and sorry this isn’t one of my better efforts!
I’ll now look at the others – I’ve resisted up to now!
Cheers, Maureen

Sheila, what a lovely window – love the cat sitting there!:)
That second one you painted a while ago is lovely! – and the sentiment – ‘Please let me join you in there!’Merri – that’s an ambitious undertaking – such a lot to paint and it’s lovely! I had an arch like that – it blew down!
Jim – Hawk looks quite happy to meet Dragon, from the safety of the screen!!! – is this at your new home? Nice!
Carl – I thought this was your daily view! It’s beautiful, a joy! I like the way you painted this – really nice.
Cindy – nice sunset, nice view – and it does convey evening.:)
Jean – nice evening scene which reflects the stained glass colours beautifully – nice setting indeed!
Colin – what a lovely story and tribute!
Yes, Hopperesque! I love that sunlit wall and window to look from, and 2 to look into!Really lovely paintings this month – and so different (but that’s what it’s all about!)
Cheers, Maureen

July 29, 2019 at 7:54 pm #848704Thanks and acknowledgements to all for having a go at this challenge.
Thank you also for the encouragement comments for all the works.
It likely was a challenge for those who didn’t have a picturesque view, but it was more around incorporating what you had with a frame and creating good shapes. I do apologise if it was difficult for some.
I am thrilled with the participation and I thank you all.
kind regards
Merri

July 30, 2019 at 10:37 am #848626Sorry I didn’t take part. The idea was a good one, just not in the mood to paint lately. Everyone did nice work. Hey Maureen, at least you got it done before the month was over.
C&C always welcome. Michelle
