Here is my “Out My Window”

I was looking out my window thinking about what to paint and hubby comes up behind me and says “Nice Sunset eh?!” So I painted it.
        C/C graciously accepted.

        Regards,
        Cindy

A4. A combination of 2 photos as the building used to be a milking shed long ago.

Christie – Great job with the cow and the background of stone wall. Nice.
Merriweather – Even though it is Winter there, the colors are bright and Spring Like. Beautiful.
Shelia – That Cat’s eye view is a cool idea. Nice.
Old Hobbyist – Nice work. Hawk appears to be using caution on his approach.
Mayfly – Beautiful ocean scene.. I’m drinking in those fantastic blues.
Cindy – That is a beautiful view!

Cindy – That is a stunning view of the trees with sunset. I love the angles on your trees, and glorious pink in the sky.

Imogene Thomas – A creative wow to your painting nestled into the stained glass surround. Love your sunset sky. reminds me of hot days. Well done.

(it is our winter, it has mainly been grey skies, but interspersed with sunny days. last Friday the temp hit 25 degrees celcius = 77 Farenheight – very odd weather. In any case, it really doesn’t matter as I am deep in a valley and never get to see the sun go down, so the only way I can get a decent sunset photo is to climb on my roof)

I could say I am ‘tickled pink’ with the sunsets – but its so corny I wont.

Imogene Thomas – Super Wow, love it. I am especially amazed with the stained glass.

Thanks for hosting this Merri! I am finding that I am learning a different set of rules or ideas with each challenge. In the past I have painted the window but just the window. It hadn’t occurred to be to paint both sides and it forced me to really look and really see what was in the window and what could be added or left out. Good lesson to learn!

Christel, I’m sad to find that you live in a barn but you do have the most adorable neighbor! Does she provide fresh milk and cheese each morning?

Merriweather, I find your perspective to be quite courageous! Not only looking out but looking out at an angle where we see the window and its locking mechanism providing us safety from those dangerous shrubs and trees! In our winter I’m going to want to see a summer piece on your garden. It looks so well designed.

Old Hobbyist- I like the story going on outside the window. If Hawk were Beckett he’d be “watering” that dragon! Thanks for sharing that!

Carl, this is beautiful! The color of the skies replicated in the water. It seems so peaceful and I can just about smell the ocean air. I wonder if the Pacific smells different than the Atlantic? The beaches look similar but I have seen a photo of where the 2 oceans meet and they have different chemistries and do not flow easily into each other. I know I saw the photo but cannot think of where in the world the oceans would meet- of course they do but going from flat maps to globes stretches this dame’s brain!

Cindy, I love the deck out into the wilderness. It appears you have an orchestra box to watch the plays put on each day by nature. Funny how we can be looking at some wonderous nature and fail to actually see until someone else points it out to us.

Imogene, nice comparison between the coloring of glass as seen by a glass artist and the contesting colors as drawn by nature in a sunset. I do think nature will always win!

And finally, Merriweather, when you mentioned the cat in one of the posts it immediately occurred to me to add one to the scene. For paintings I donate to cat rescues I typically have sad cats looking through a window from the outside into a warm human home. So I just had to do a reverse. I may need to add a cat to all my works…. or at least a few cat hairs!

Thanks to all! I enjoyed this!

Roadlesstaken – glad you like my neighbor but she isn’t a dairy cow and would give me a rough time if I tried to milk her.

Thank you Roadlesstaken for your comments.

I am glad you enjoyed the challenge, and I am so glad you did put a cat on the sill.

Thanks for the nice comments on my painting. Yes, I did show the old fashioned lock, and the walls. I did not need to look to paint all of that. Over a 3 year period, in my 3 week annual work leave, I bought umpteen pallets of those 15 kg bricks and built it all. I also did all of the paving at the front. The garden is huge, and it used to be all lawn. Because of an 8 yr drought, I got rid of the lawn, and got a digger machine in to tier it. I had 2 friends to help. The bloke did the levels for me, and worked out the stairs, but what I painted I did pretty much all of it. Sorta nice now that I look back on it.

My idea of ‘looking out of your window’, came from a painting I saw whilst watching the antiques road show. The painting had 2 cats in the window. Some famous painter, I wish I could remember. It stunned me in simplicity and beauty….

Do you really mean you have stray cats looking in.. my goodness. I never could / would imagine that.

Thank you so much for your wonderful input throughout this month. I so enjoy your comments.

                        cheers

I know I am late late to the party, but I didn’t manage to get to my painting over the weekend and then the darn thing took a lot longer to get to a point where I was ok showing it.

                            12 x 18 on canvasboard.

                            My straight lines are horrible.

This is the absolute worst view from any window in our home. But the view is kind of Hopperesque, and the story, is that the upper window is a bedroom on the main floor that was used by our long time very lovely neighbour after she became very ill, before she ultimately passed away. So it is in a sense the telling of the story from our home of the end of the story of her time in her home. If that makes sense.

A lot of great paintings this month.

Christel – Love the cow. Great window scene, and a very engaging storyline. :)

RoadLessTaken – the cat’s eye view. Love the cat surveying its domain.

Merri – I agree it does look like watercolour. And I love the angle creating the sense of depth. Well done!

JIm – Here Be Dragons. Great loose brushwork, and it is a treat to see your work.

Carl – What a nice view! Love those clouds and your rich colours. This is great. Gotta love the Oregon Coast. So different from our craggy jagged Pacific side.

Cindy – Very pretty view of the trees at sunset.

Imogene – What a beautiful view of trees out the window.

ColinS – A very effective depiction of a lovely story. Beautiful work. I love the light and shade – very effective. I had to look up Hopperesque .

                                thanks for joining in .
