Ah Merri – at least you tried to interpret mine!
So nice that you could join us once again – and I like the idea of hiding the nasty thorns that injure! ….. nasty thoughts behind those insincere smiles – we all know such people, I’m sure!
Shall I tell – or pm you? Shhhh …..
Christel – thank you – I used magenta, Paynes Grey and Brilliant blue – with white, of course!
Cheers, Maureen

The brilliant colors were a lot of fun and I learned something about chromatic shadows which was a bonus.
Merri– What an idea! I can see the creeping happening. The guitar is about to wail! I really like the pinks in this.

August 23, 2021 at 5:37 am #1429830Sorry I’m late! I said I was done but not sure if it was done correctly… I was right, I had it done “Wrong”!!! On Saturday, as my son would say, “I peeked and I freaked!!! Lol So I pulled out another canvas board and did my original idea. I might as well share the first one I did with you.
I saw lots of color and a guitar when I looked at the original photo – so my train of thought was “Colorful” “”Sounds”. Then after peeking on Sat. I realized we were supposed to use the actual photo. (Sorry)
Then I thought about doing one with pink flowers and putting the songs by the artist “Pink” on the fence, (eg. Get The Party Started, Don’t Let Me Get Me, etc..) I decided to go with “Blues Music” and list the top 10 Blues Songs (by “ILoveClassicRock.com”), on the fence as it reminded me of an ruled exercise book.
Here is my second attempt at the challenge. It’s an 8×10 acrylic on canvas board.
I will be back to comment on others.
Regards,
Cindy

"Painting is my meditation"August 23, 2021 at 8:45 am #1429864Cindy— Thanks for your kind comments on mine and the challenge! It would have been fine if you had just shared your first one, but it’s really great you were willing to do a second. I really like both of your paintings! Am I guessing right that your second one is inspired by Blues music? I’m glad you also shared your first…I think I’m seeing a rainbow of wind chimes in a storm. How did you come up with this idea?
August 23, 2021 at 8:59 am #1429868Ozean yours is perfect, the colors are wonderful, what a great metaphor. Thank you for hosting and such an interesting theme!
Cindy, I had to turn on Hoochie Coochie Man because I read it on your fence, what a clever idea!
Christel, those reds are lovely, such a beautiful color. Another clever interpertation, David Bryne would appreciate that.
Maureen, this gives me that gorgeous Latin dramatic flair (because the cuatro is Spanish of course). The balcony, the dagger all set such a scene. Wonderful lighting in it too, I love the darker to lighter sky.
Anfair, That little dog looks like my Sammy who passed away not long ago. Sammy loved to howl when I played my keyboard. Your painting makes my heart glad.
Colin, well done! That does look like sound waves. I looked at it for a good long time, it’s mesmerizing.
Merri, that’s so ominous, I love it! Clever!
I’m on my phone waiting for quite the rumbling storm to pass, I’ll wait until it’s over to post mine. I love where I live but we do lose power a lot in storms!

"Painting is my meditation"August 23, 2021 at 12:04 pm #1429916Virginia— Thanks for your generous comments on my painting and I’m so glad you enjoyed this challenge! I hope the storm isn’t too bad and I’m looking forward to when you’re able to share your painting.
Cindy– Thanks for sharing how you came up with your ideas! So, you used the reference image as a metaphor in your first painting and you applied a metaphor to it in the second. You now have two great paintings.
August 23, 2021 at 1:21 pm #1429930Cindy, I agree with Ozean … I like both and love the colours of the second …. Whichever way you used the metaphor I don’t think matters … it’s the fact that you did a painting, or two!! that is important…… after all, it’s Different Strokes!?
Thank you all for the generous comments on mine, it’s much appreciated.
I have to say, I really enjoyed this challenge, whether I was right or wrong!
Cheers, Maureen

I am glad you posted the first one. Colourful sounds… like a wind chime I left at my former home.
I don’t recognise the songs, ( not surprisingly) but love the idea .
Great work.

August 24, 2021 at 6:04 pm #1430220We ended up with a bigger storm today! At least it brought rain though. My neighbor was ill so I’m babysitting a very elderly Dalmatian. She’s lovely but so time consuming!
here’s my entry. The metaphor was supposed to be something about music being a spot of color in the darkness. (Excuse the photo, I couldn’t get the lighting right but the black part is a very dark black in real life)
I actually did two, this one was a composition fixer bc I didn’t like the photos crop. It could be a metaphor for how nitpicky I am, haha.

Find me on FacebookAugust 24, 2021 at 7:42 pm #1430226Christel – Very successful paint8ng. I especially like how you handled the bougainvillea. Very meta for sure.
Maureen Clever gal! The balcony. The knife. The flowers strewn like drops of blood. Sunny pleasant scene masking tragedy.
Anfair – nicely done. Lots of music in the scene.
Ozeanbay – That rainbow of coloured lights really lifts the composition. Clever idea.
Merri – bright and cheerful bougainvillea masking the evil intent of harming the hapless guitarists. Surely a metaphor some thing.
Cindy – the first is a cool take on the subject. I like the blues in the second one. “Bluegainbvillea”?
Virginia – Great paintings! I always find your black background so striking. That blue really sings out against the dark.
Thank you all for your comments on mine. It was a fun challenge.

August 24, 2021 at 9:28 pm #1430240Maureen–I’m so glad you enjoyed this challenge! It really did turn out to be as you said “a challenge and a half.” I’m thrilled with all the great paintings and ideas.
Colin–Thanks for your kind comments on mine! Also, good catch with those other elements of Maureen’s painting. I saw the knife, ominous darkness, and a possible bottle of poison, but missed the others you saw.
Virginia–I’m glad you made it through all those storms! Is the Dalmatian handling those okay? I really like both of your paintings. Clever idea for the first and I love how the blue glows against the black. The composition really works well on the second! Well painted. Very different styles for both…not sure which I like better.
