Maureen, yes, maybe stop for dinner! Glad you were inspired and had the time to paint though. I’m looking forward to seeing what you came up with!
August 20, 2021 at 9:57 pm #1429326It’s 6am here already, 21 August so here goes:
A google search on guitar and flowers turned up some well known songs like Bed of Roses, Flower era, Classic Rock, etc
I decided to focus on Nothing but Flowers by Talking Heads from Naked 1988.
It’s easy to pay lipservice to recycling but how many are willing to replace Pizzahut or their favorite grocery store with a field of flowers??
My version is focused on a bougainvillea with the guitar symbolizing the classic rock in the middle of a field of flowers, many of them tiny white flowers
Dd I interpret the challenge correctly?

August 20, 2021 at 11:31 pm #1429338Christel— Lovely picture! I really like the shadows and the white flowers contrasting with the red.
I think you both interpreted the challenge how I was thinking by using the metaphor from the song to spur you to add more flowers as well as interpreted it opposite by having the subjects in your painting be metaphors! Whew! Not easy. I’d say you did great. Thanks for participating.

August 21, 2021 at 5:32 am #1429383Managed to finish this morning, though I know I could add and improve but here it is! It’s about 7 x 10” on mount board.
My title (the metaphor) is Star Crossed Lovers and the subject is …….. no, you supply it!!!?….. then I’ll know if it works!
Thanks for the challenge Ozean …. I did get my idea very early in the month, should have started sooner, but I did enjoy the idea and trying to portray it.?
Cheers, Maureen

August 21, 2021 at 11:09 am #1429451That’s a sweet little painting Anfair.
Colin … love the sound waves … your brush strokes portray them well!
Sidenote ….. when I was looking at the ref, for mine, I kept seeing a face in the guitar …. couldn’t ‘not’ then see it! …. In Sound Waves, I think his expression is a touch ‘painful’! ??
Cheers, Maureen

I love seeing how you have all interpreted the reference in such varied and wonderful ways. Thank you for playing along with my challenging challenge idea!
Maureen–Lovely! I like how you transported the reference to the sunny sea and created a story here. Is the subject something with Romeo and Juliet? I see the knife. Glad you enjoyed the challenge!
Anfair–Glad you could join us! I like how you created your music outdoors with this! The dog singing is especially sweet.
Colin–I can definitely see the “Sound Waves” happening here! The swirly strokes make it have great energy.
August 21, 2021 at 12:24 pm #1429463Here’s mine! I was wanting it to have a dramatic feel and chose the metaphor of colored stage lights. 5″x7″ on paper

Maureen – love your interpretation! Great palette! My bougainvillea colors have changed to motherof pearl red due to lack of those beautiful pinks/purples
Anfair – very innovative!
Colin – great waves Lovely choice of colors
Ozean – Super palette! Well done!

August 22, 2021 at 12:57 am #1429583Maureen, Star crossed lovers, loving over the ocean… I don’t know, I am well lost with this challenge, but you have depicted a beautiful painting as always.
Anfair, very nice, and summer is certainly the time for outdoor concerts.. Love your scene, especially the puppy…
Colin, Love the waves and the colours you used.. It really works neat.
Ozeanbay, the colour staged lights theme works beautifully.
Ok… I like bouganvillea.. so I sorta thought, The flowering creeper disguises its thorns as it heads towards the guitar who will wail when pricked.
Cheers
Merri
