Lol Sheila, its easy to get lost in a rose,  but good try … you just needed to keep going a bit!  That daisy is truly nice, lovely pattern of petals and love those dots for the centre!

Jim … a blue tulip, lovely…. wish I could grow some like that!

    Cheers, Maureen

Cindy, Sheila and Jim – lovely florals! Hope to see you soon in the florals challenges!

Sheila, the daisy is very nice, but it’s too bad you painted over the rose. You had a good base there.

Jim, nice tulip. They don’t really come in that colour, do they?

    C&C always welcome. Michelle

Wow!  These are SO good!  My favorite part of these challenges, most especially of the challenges I fail at is seeing how others make out and learning from looking.  NOW I understand the date mandating there be no works shown prior- I’d be copying!

I need to stop thinking so concretely!  I never ever consider adding more “on top” of a work.  It’s like I do the outside shape and then the inside without possibly adding more layers…. I can’t explain it but I need to learn from it!

Thanks for hosting Assaf!  I learned something new!

Maureen – Wow, great job on your Rose.  The shading is beautiful.
Ron – Love your Calla Lily.  Nicely colored veins and the b/g is perfect, (lights against darks).
Christel – This Rose is very nice, (soft yellow in the center looks really good.)
Sheila – I don’t think you failed but I do agree, Rose’s are difficult.  Yours was coming along nicely.  Your Daisy is cool with the 3D center.
Old_hobbyist – Beautiful – love the blues! (Both the color and music.)

Hope I didn’t miss anyone.  Thanks again Assaf for hosting.

        Cindy

            Love these!

I’m a day late posting, I thought today was the 21st until about five minutes ago!

Maureen, what a deep velvety red! Love it.

Rosta, you have some wonderful shading there, I like the colors you used too and the shape is perfect.

Christel, that looks like it should be titled “Portrait of a Rose”. It’s stunning!

Cindy, that is a cool closeup. Lovely yellows. Your husband is funny!

Sheila those are both so charming! I’m in love with the daisy.

Jim, you managed to give you tulip such bulk, it’s both graphic and painterly. It has such style and the blues are beautiful.

Here’s mine. I did the rose, it’s on square watercolor 8×8 inches.

I experimented with fluorescent colors as the base then watered down acrylics over them. I lost the “glow” in a few places and my red was too burgundyish but overall I’m pleased with it.

            Thanks Assaf for hosting!

Michelle–I peeked at your Inktense project–beautiful! I may find myself splurging on those pencils someday.

Maureen–Beautiful! I also really liked this reference photo love the intense red you attained. Thanks for explaining your method!

Ron–I really like your calla lily–especially the transition from the purple to the cream! It’s one of my favorite flowers. Well done.

Christel–Very lovely! I love the glowing, twisting forms of the petals. Great choice of background to highlight the flower.

Cindy–I think you passed your “test” of being able to do a floral close-up! I like it, especially the contrast of the light petals with the dark background. Very funny “Stoner Dude”!

Sheila–I agree that your rose had potential! Maybe another day. Roses are hard! The daisy strikes me as very happy and “in-your-face” in a good way. I like the bright green background shining through. :)

Old_hobbyist–I have a feeling you had a lot of fun with this one! You had me googling “blue tulips.” I really like the form you were able to create with all your “blues.”

Virginia–I would really like to see your painting! However, it’s lost in cyberspace for me. Maybe it will appear soon.

                    Thanks, Assaf, for hosting!

Here’s my rose from a personal reference–9×13″ on paper. I tried to get the colors right in the photo, but it seemed to make it slightly yellower than in actuality. This was the first time that I tried painting the entire thing in a couple of hours in a looser manner–wet on wet in sections. Maybe not my best, but it worked! I also was testing out hard/soft lines. That was fun. About halfway through I almost threw the whole thing away in the garbage, but I’m glad I kept going. The painting is growing on me as it sits on the shelf. I like it best when viewed across the room.

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments on my work!

Ozeanbay – lovely rose! The red hues are great

Virginia … those contrasts are so dramatic, it’s lovely, you captured the convoluted shapes and sharpness so well.

Ozean … that’s a very nice rose! Good form and colour … glad you stuck with it! …. and in 2 hours? Jeepers! Sounds like you set yourself a number of challenges here … I applaud you.

                    Cheers, Maureen

Virginia, lovely work and nice close crop.

Ozean, love those bright reds. And thank you for the compliment.

I’m really hoping to get started on my project today.

Virginia – Beautiful blending of the colors.
Ozeanbay – Love how you did the edges of the petals showing the curve and in 2 hours!  Wow!
Thank you to all for your kind comments on my flower.  I kinda like it too.

Virginia–Cyberspace let me see your painting, now! It’s gorgeous and I do love the contrast you used and where you were able to make it glow. Do you think you would try the fluorescent underpainting again?

Thank you all for the lovely comments on my painting. I was feeling strange the day I painted my rose that I just needed to paint quickly and be done that afternoon. However, I also thought that it probably wouldn’t work and I’d be doing another one, so there was no real pressure. I was so surprised when I was done so quickly! I kept looking at it and wondering what had happened.
