Mixed media. Not my usual style, but I just wanted to try something different. Below is the original version of my painting with the red sky (24X36 acrylic on canvas), but I decided to use photo editing software to make it into a nocturne. The final version is below the original, I just had to reinforce some lines and lighten it a bit. Not expecting many comments on this one, because I’m sure the expressionistic style, and the technique won’t be most peoples cup of tea. I’m going to rework my original painting to make it look more like the final photo software edited version, I just wanted to get an idea of what it would look like first.

We must leave our mark on this worldFebruary 4, 2023 at 7:33 am #1500921This is very different from your other piece but very interesting to look at. I think I like the blue sky better as well….

February 4, 2023 at 7:37 am #1500922Thanks Doug and Wes. I figured people would prefer the darker version with the blue sky, I do as well. Just has a moodier look and feel to it.

February 4, 2023 at 1:10 pm #1500960The blue sky version is the winner. I used to teach expressionism as part of my art history course and I love the style. You’ve done well.

I’ll get around to reworking it eventually, but I’ve already started a new painting that’s more in my usual style and subject matter. I just wanted to do something easy for a change.

February 4, 2023 at 7:09 pm #1501026Jim, wow, thanks for showing us how this is created and I LOVE the buildings as well as yes, the blue sky. It gives a glimpse of realism being blue whereas the warm sky does not.

February 4, 2023 at 7:32 pm #1501029Thanks Kay for your comments. No question that the darkened down blue sky version looks way better, the slight violet hues of the buildings look pretty cool too.

February 5, 2023 at 6:17 pm #1501153Thanks Patrick, it seems like everyone prefers the night version.
