There are alot of them – at least 4 in Calgary, but most of them only sell their watercolors. Only one of those 4 sell their traditional oils and probably won’t stock the WMO. Your best bet is to wait for their reply or order directly from them.
Trouble is that there is no guarantee that a store carrying DS Watercolours or Oils would order in any DS WMO paints.
I was hoping Delta in Calgary would have some-but not yet.
Cheers

August 3, 2012 at 6:20 am #1165993I am very happy to be able to report that a Daniel Smith rep, Chad Cook, responded to my email asking if their paints were artist or student grade. He said they were “professional artist grade.”
Happy days!!! I ordered 2 colors that I find I use a lot: Hansa yel light (PY3) and Titanium White (PW6) and I’ll compare them to my Artisan. At last, concrete information.:crossfingers:

Thanks for the info. I think the paints will be real good if they are up to the quality of DS regular oils.

August 13, 2012 at 12:33 pm #1165978Daniel Smith guarantees their water mixable oils are made exactly the same as their traditional oils except they use the modified linseed oil for that line. They recently had a well known artist test them, you can read his opinion by ordering their latest catalogue – and they have a beginners set on sale.
August 13, 2012 at 1:48 pm #1165996Well I have bitten and have ordered them. I will let you know what I think, when they have arrived and I have given them a try……….dor:))

Daniel Smith has 20% off on all products right now-might be a good time to order!
August 17, 2012 at 5:09 pm #1165981I just checked out the line, and I was surprised to find that they only have 20 colors and they don’t have any Cads in the line. Also surprised that their Quinacridone colors a so expensive, and there is no cool yellow (lemon).
Maybe they are just getting started, but this seems rather limited to me. I was thinking of trying them (I use holbein duo), but there’s not much here that’s particularly useful to me.

FacebookAugust 18, 2012 at 2:35 pm #1165979This is a relatively new line for Daniel Smith – I think they plan to add more colors in the future. May depend on how well they are received? Also remember you can use small amounts of traditional oils to the modified ones without losing the water mixable asset so that might help until the line is expanded to include more colors.
August 19, 2012 at 5:05 pm #1165980I just checked the latest catalogue from Daniel Smith and they have a statement about their acrylic line, one of which is that they plan to have about 40 colors available. They have solicited input from artists on which colors they would most like to see added to their acrylic line.
For those who might like to try this brand, they are offering a free tube of titanium white with any 5 tubes; with 9 tubes the include free titanium white and a bottle of water soluable modified linseed oil. You can also watch a demo on painting and cleaning up with the water soluable oils.
August 19, 2012 at 6:58 pm #1165957Aires thanks for the heads up I just ordered their catalogue.
I’m looking to hearing feedback on this line of WMOs.

August 29, 2012 at 9:55 pm #1165950I tried out a couple of the Daniel Smith WMO Quinacridones and I must say I was impressed. For me, DS offers the best selection of quinacridone pigments which is why I purchased them to try out; Quinacridone Gold, Sienna, Coral, Purple and Burnt Orange.
I only have their Quin Gold in their traditional oil line and really couldn’t tell a difference in handling between it and the WMO Quin Gold. In my opinion, I find them to be quite similar in consistency and handling to Cobra’s and enjoyed working with them.
Their Quin Sienna is a great transparent version of Burnt Sienna (which isn’t available in the WMO line yet). The Quin Purple looks to be an interesting color but I’m looking forward to using the Quin Coral, which in their watercolor line is a beautiful color, great in portraits.
Also surprised that their Quinacridone colors a so expensive, and there is no cool yellow (lemon).
Maybe they are just getting started, but this seems rather limited to me. I was thinking of trying them (I use holbein duo), but there’s not much here that’s particularly useful to me.
The WMO Quinacridones are priced the same as their tradional oils. I would consider their Hansa Yellow Light to be a cool yellow as it is PY3 which is a lemon yellow
Trouble is that there is no guarantee that a store carrying DS Watercolours or Oils would order in any DS WMO paints.
I was hoping Delta in Calgary would have some-but not yet.
Delta Art is in Edmonton and I’m going there tomorrow so I’ll ask. I don’t hold out alot of hope of them carrying the line though as not too long ago they stopped carrying the tradional DS oils and they just brought in the Cobra line.
