Bill, The expert said the pepper and chili pepper will scare him away permanently. He has used it at his house in east Texas. Armadillos carry leprosy, and I will not handle them. John will be spreading the concoction tonight.
We will be picking up John’s Handicapped sticker paperwork tomorrow afternoon. We can get the handicapped placards on Friday. We have bought everything that he will need when he cannot leave the house. His surgery is not until 3 PM. It is going to be a long day!
Have a good evening.

June 20, 2018 at 11:43 pm #644251Nancy….thoughts with you and John for the surgery…keep us updated when you can.
Bill….I don’t know how farmers or ranchers make it anymore. I remember my grandfather back when he had his operation (3 sections), beef cattle prices were less than $30 per CWT….January 2017 the average was somewhere near $119 per CWT. Tractors can run you several hundred thousand dollars, combines can run you a quarter of a million, hay balers can be twenty thousand……that’s a lot of feeder cattle at auction. It ain’t for the timid or the faint of heart that’s for sure. There are times I wish I had taken over my grandfather’s operation and there are times I’m so thankful I didn’t. It’s not a job or career…it’s a lifestyle that’s 24/7/365 days year in, year out. If you want your weekends off, your holidays and vacations and your down time…chances are it ain’t for you.
I hear the pillow calling my name…..until tomorrow amigos.
Steve.

June 21, 2018 at 12:50 am #644220Gosh, farming in the US is obviously quite different to here.
Agriculture is our country’s leading industry and has been/ is a very profitable business to be in.
We contracted out the hay making as do most farmers, we didnt need to buy the big machinery at all. We dont house our animals in winter though, we dont need to. Winter feed is supplemented with hay or silage just for a couple of months at most.
We have got more dairy cows than people here!Lynn, has that beautiful great- grandbaby girl got a name yet?
