uschi….we cross posted. How dare you Canadians come across the border and buy American shoes….you’re on the right track with the media exposure opening eyes Uschi…..but it’s not just wanting a better life. There’s a perfectly good reason why most 3rd world countries are where they are today….and a large part of it is due to Western ideology and policies in the past that literally and figuratively raped the wealth and resources of most of these countries for their own benefits, prosperity and power….and to some extent we’re still doing it, at least politically. The old “white is right and screw you if you ain’t white” mindset. I see all these immigration issues as nothing more than Karma……unfortunately, I don’t see it improving in our generation….more likely, our great grand children’s generation, if we’re (human kind) are still around then……thing about karma, is that it almost always levels the field eventually……..
Pain and heartaches aren't options in life........misery is a choice.
June 20, 2018 at 8:48 am #644248Hi Steve
Thanks for your encouragement. I seem to be winning at the moment and pain control is much better. Being able to stand unaided would help rather than swaying about like a drunk! But I’ll get there. Best wishes to you with your treatment too – as you said to me “hang in there and take one day at a time”.
Mike
June 20, 2018 at 9:29 am #644232We have friends in Sarnia who have crossed the border to make some purchases, but now the exchange rate and the cost of bridge toll just makes it not worth it.
Hmm, I wonder if there’s a market for scuffed shoes at the border? And as far as dairy tariffs, Canada is wise to continue them. Canada contains herds at about 80 cows per farm, so that farmers can raise healthy cows and monitor the milk and keeping it at a stable price. American dairy farmers are greedy and overproduce, causing low prices. I only buy organic, and my dairy farmer neighbor knows that. I told him so.
According to the polls, the majority of Americans stand with Canada regarding tariffs, and are opposed to Trumps threats.

June 20, 2018 at 9:33 am #644228Hello,
We had a great weekend up north with family; it’s always so nice to see my six siblings and Mom. I came home and proceeded to get a sore throat and today my head feels like it’s going to blow up. A summer cold is no fun at all. I didn’t sleep well last night and I almost called in but thought I would be okay if I can just get rid of the headache. The cough I have is horrible and I broke a blood vessel in my right eye from coughing.
Today we are having an ice cream social for all the people with June and early July birthdays. We all brought something to build a sundae with.
Kels is heading up north this weekend I think for a week. She is going to leave the pizza place in the hands of other employees. I hope all works out.:crossfingers:
I hope you all have a wonderful day. :grouphug:

June 20, 2018 at 9:37 am #644239light grey here, possibly warm up a bit. Yesterday was lovely!
Thanks Uschi and Ellen, it is a delightful time!
Glad you are improving Mike!
Karma, indeed, Steve…..
Bill, my cousin’s son tried to make it with a dairy herd of 100 in Manitoba, he couldn’t make ends meet, don’t know if that was personal, or if it was impossible. That’s with wife and even kids working too. He has gone on to other things.
Must go, gardening awaits, hope you all have a good day!

Cheers, Lynn

"Ring the bells that still can ring, Forget your perfect offering, There is a crack in everything, That's how the light gets in" Leonard CohenJune 20, 2018 at 9:57 am #644233Lynn, it’s a tough business. Canadian farmers get 79¢ a liter and American farmers get 49¢ a liter. That’s why Americans want in, but it would put Canadian farmers right out of business. I’m glad Trudeau is holding his ground.
I had to laugh or maybe I should cry, a Gallup poll found that 8% of republicans felt that the U.S. should retaliate for Canada’s participation in the war of 1812. That’s just crazy.

June 20, 2018 at 10:20 am #644224Steve, Karma, there is no end to it:D It’s like the pendulum, it only stays in the middle for a short time then over to the other side which means that eventually poverty is still there, just on the other side (yes, us) – no permanent solution. BTW, I think the pendulum is on it’s way to China being “we are the greatest in the world”:D I hope they implement good health care:evil:
Mike, yes, in Britain that is a long way away, wouldn’t be so bad here. Have been meaning to say that your paintings are beautiful, you’ll be doing that restaurant a favour by beautifying their place:thumbsup:
Bill, Canada allows us to bring merchandise up to a certain amount from the States without paying duty and I am sure the shoes aren’t made in the USA anyway:D But it reminded me of the years after the war were things still weren’t that plentiful and since my hometown is smack on the border of Liechtenstein/Switzerland we would walk across the border and buy things like shoes and just like Trump said, we’d leave the old ones behind and scuff the new ones because Austria would not allow us to bring them into the country. So the question is, who told Trum that story:D
I too buy only organic milk from local farmers.
Darla, good to have you back and of course you enjoyed the reunion with your family. So sorry you are not feeling well.
Geoff, I gather you’ll live (or is that life??) Decent news!!!!
to you Lynn!!
I guess the surgeon wants to see me showered and dressed so off I go.
Afterthought, I think we should demand tariff on our Snowbirds bringing masses of money into the USA., so there!!!:D

June 20, 2018 at 10:48 am #644227Good Morning Washer Buds… We enjoyed a brief shower this morning and the temperature is low enough to keep us comfortable in the humidity.
One of the meds I’m taking seems to make my head spin. More than usual. I feel quite light headed for at least an hour or so after taking them. I just can’t do pills. I hate this. I managed a few hours of quality sleep last night in my recliner. I still cannot lie flat.
I have an appointment this afternoon with my cardiologist. He’ll do a deep ultra sound. I cannot have a cat scan because I’m allergic to the iodine in the dye. An MRI is not possible as a good diagnostic resource because the titanium in my hips causes the images to be fuzzy.
On our way to my appointment, we will drop off more *stuff* to the Thrift store. This purging is really improving the quality of what I have in the kitchen. So much of the unnecessary things are the result of our smaller family events and things that have been hanging around for 10-20-30 years because they were too *good* to get rid of.
Good luck with your MRI today, Les!
Geoff, did you do watercolour or acrylics?
Coal mines are closing everywhere, Doug. Theirs is an interesting and heartbreaking history.
Welcome back Mike. Congratulations on the new Gallery and for good sales!
Annie and JJ.
Sylvia, the Cultural Centre orders that paper and I don’t much care for the natural white because it’s literally creamy in colour. The cold pressed also seems to have a much smoother tooth than other papers. Anyway!!! Enjoy!!!
Bill, here in SW Ontario we couldn’t give the ash wood away. The volume of them killed by the emerald ash bore was just too high. Most of it ended up being burned.
((Ellen)) I sure hope you didn’t do anything major to your hand. What fun for these children to rub shoulders with one another… there’s nothing quite like inclusion to help them feel a little better about their health!
Uschi, Ted knows me very well which is why he’s taken over the meds. People rarely run away from their homes for simple reasons…
Steve, you know your body and you also know to adjust your activity accordingly. ((hug))
((Darla)) Your Social sounds like fun!
Lynn, I’m not surprised that your family couldn’t earn a good living with their small farm. Those farms are disappearing across our Country because the Industry Farms can operate more economically. Sometimes much less humanely, but that’s the way of things now.
Good luck at the Dr., Uschi!
I hope everyone enjoys a happy and creative day! Turn off the news and live life.

June 20, 2018 at 11:06 am #644240Hi Uschi, Kay!
Char, on one visit there I was out with the wife in the huge mower (cab, airconditioned, lights, radio!) along with her youngest (4) at 10:00 at night, quite the experience! They were making silage. But that marriage broke up shortly after, just too stressful a life, four kids, wife wanting to resume her career…..
Even years before, in the 40’s, our 150 acres were not enough for mixed farming. The neighbours all had 1 or 2 sections. We could feed ourselves, to a point, but just too much hard work when you can’t afford to hire help, and don’t have kids to pitch in.
Well, I have to get busy with washing my gifts to the babe, and clearing up the garden, we have a nasty little bug attacking almost everything in the veg area. All this moisture and quick growth of the plants. Leaf miner in my chard too, so sad about that.
Cheers, Lynn

So the question is, who told Trum that story
Well as the son of a German Immigrant he probably knew it well.

Char….I did two watercolours, both landscapes, and just about finished a largish acrylic…landscape again.

June 20, 2018 at 11:37 am #644244Good morning. Brief showers are finally reaching us. Most are staying to the east of us heading up to Steve’s area.
Checked around the tree this morning, and yep it is an armadillo causing the problem. New areas pushed up; but because of the landscape cloth,
it cannot get to the dirt. John is going to spread the pepper mixture tonight.Mike, Welcome back! How exciting to have your paintings displayed in the shop!
Ellen, My grandson and granddaughter both went to the camp together here when they were young. It really helped them both. James with the diabetes, and Julie with her bi-lateral cleft palate.
Uschi, I am sure you will be given a clean bill of health! Laughed at your shoe story.
((Les,))Thinking of you today. Uschi said it the best!
Geoff, So glad the doctor is being pro-active with getting your foot healed.
Darla, It is always hard to return home after a family visit and then get sick. I was worried about the floods in Northern Michigan. Hope your family is OK.
Char, I emptied my kitchen of the same stuff when I got rid of the china cabinet. It is so freeing to only have the things you need. There are a few special items that are stored on top of my cabinets that will be passed on to my grandchildren.
Have a great day everyone!

June 20, 2018 at 2:28 pm #644225Good Afternoon! and a lovely one it is!!
Surgeon visit went well, took out stitches, very pleased with healing, need to go for blood test re calcium. See him again in two months.
Was supposed to go for my 6 month check up re blood pressure in two weeks and just had a call, he fell (young guy) and received a spinal injury and is in rehab. I’ll live:D
Geoff, you are probably right, never thought of that and his wife might have stories too, or at least his first wife:)
Hi Nancy, Kay, Lynn and Anita!!
Char, hope the cardiologists search can put an absolute end to this kind of imflammation.
Uschi
June 20, 2018 at 3:45 pm #644234Well, he gave into the pressure and blamed it on others, still.
Uschi, glad the healing is going well. Too bad about you physician’s injuries.
Nancy, I wonder if a live trap with worms as bait would work? Seriously!
