Good morning friends, another hot day ahead.

This morning I have an appointment at the clinic with the pharmacist to discuss my medications. I suspect my swollen ankles are a side effect of changing my blood pressure tablets. I have also signs of liver damage though I don’t drink alcohol. I suspect long term use of Lanzoprazole which gives it as a potential problem.

Bowls this afternoon, I’ll have to take extra precautions against the sun.

I have decided to write Ruth’s life story, she had a difficult start in life contracting polio as a child but has succeeded beyond all expectations.

I’m expecting 10 more copies of my A59 book today in preparation for my talk at the nursing home on the 19th.

Good morning, Doug, I’m glad to hear you’ll have copies of your book for your talk.  You could combine your story and Ruth’s into one book, since you,be spent so much of your lives together.

It’s a sunny Tuesday, but no grand parenting for us as our lovely Master C is starting big school.  So far, Uschi, he has gone to pre school, at Chester University, but as of this week he will go to the same school as his big brothers who go back today.  Miss A’s school has an INSET, or teacher training day today, and her mummy has taken yesterday and today off, to spend time with her before she goes back.  While the big boys will return for normal school days, Master C is going in for a few hours each day this week, which is a problem for his parents with working.  Fortunately his other grandparents live nearby, and his daddy is working part time.

Steve,  I’m no Mary Poppins, I just like playing with children.  I hope you will post pictures of your renovations once they are finished.

Anita, it must be great for a Justin to have found “his tribe”, and to have his own plane, especially after all the uncertainty he’s been through.  You must be so pleased for him.

Lynn, those are great photographs, I especially love the tree, and how lovely that they have been chosen.  By all means send my activity to anyone you like.  When we had finished and their drawings were done, eldest GS told me how much he enjoyed theses treasure hunts.  I think he was hoping for another one right there and then as he was really enthusiastic.

When our boys were little and we used to travel abroad with them. I would carry a bottle of bubbles and a few balloons in my handbag so that I could entertain them at the airport.  I’d often end up with a few extra children.  Restrictions on liquids now make the bubbles problematic and many small children have tablets now to entertain them.

Nancy, your minis are going to make such adorable gifts

I’ll get another load of laundry on the line today, and I may do some painting.  I’m working on watercolour exercises to improve my range of edges!

        Greetings to all.

            Good day all,

            Hot here too today,

Doug, hope the pharmacist has a solution for your swollen feet.  How do you know you have liver damage?

Hi QS, some time off for you.

I changed the air and cabin filters in my CR-v yesterday.  Took a whole ten minutes.  I have to take the car in for a recall soon and didn’t want them telling me I needed the parts and want to overcharge me.  Besides, they really need to be changed.

I’ll mow some lawn early today and clean house while it’s hot outside.

            Good evening all. :-)

I have just got home from the Temple.  I went with a friend, and we stayed for four hours.  It was wonderful.

Lynn, I love your photos, congratulations on being chosen.

            Hi Bill, and QS :bye:

Doug, good luck with your health issues.

                Good Morning!!

Another HOT day, a high of 32C, with humidity 40C.

Lovely balmy evenings though and I do enjoy sitting outside on the deck in the evening. I need to do a bit of grocery shopping and will try and get my butt in gear so I can do it before it gets too hot.

Doug, I hope they can get your meds sorted out or changed if what you are taking causes problems. Easier said than done because in the long run they all cause problems. Writing and painting the books was such a good idea and the paintings are beautiful. Looking forward to reading Ruth’s story.

QS, so all the grands will be in “real” school henceforth. Master C must feel very grown up to be there with his older brothers. You will be missing their regular visits.

Bill, good thinking on your car repairs.

Anita, How nice that Justin has found friends of like mind!!!

Lynn, those are two beautiful photos, LOVE how you caught the early sun lighting up the trees. These poets have good taste, congratulations!!! I do NOT knit mittens because no matter what I try I get loose stitches where the thumb inserts.

JJ, what do people do at the temple when there is no Sunday service?? Glad you are getting so much enjoyment out of being there!!!! Love to see the birdies bathing, quite windy there.

                Hi Char and HUGS!!

She changed my tablets, she agreed it was the lacidipine that was making my ankles swell. Previous blood test have shown high levels in my liver.

She also suggested I take Lanzoprazole on alternate days.

Here’s the final section of my story:

Meanwhile the internet had arrived and from using the phone plugged into a 56Kb modem we get to superfast fibre communications.

Things meanwhile were getting dicey at Liverpool City Council which was run by millitatnts at the time. Each year they made redundancies, and worked up various schemes to save money. Finally they demanded our department find 37 redundancies and the Unions set their face against it. Eventually they agreed to allow all those who could retire to go first and I got two weeks notice. I didn’t mind, Ruth was needing increasing care and I would be able to pay off the mortgage and we could live reasonably well on my local government pension.

At a loose end with no councillor work and no job I decided to go to a watercolour evening class. I had been sketching for a while and even did a few tree studies in my lunch hour at work and I took to watercolours and continued to paint, buying watercolour books galore. Eventually I discovered the wonderful wetcanvas community online, meeting over 100 members from Canada, the USA, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.

David went for an interview at British Aerospace at Warton and was sponsored to take degree in computing at Salford University. Soon David was doing important computing work at British Aerospace, travelling daily from home. It was a long journey and he bought a house on the edge of Preston 15 minutes from work. Eventually he met Helen and they recently bought a new house together in Preston..

My son Peter did a sandwich course at Salford University in engineering while working at the Baxi boiler company and later when studying for his Masters Degree he was head hunted by Henrob in North Wales who wanted help in developing their riveting machines. Later he moved to their Detroit factory and met Adrienne and they now live with their son Alexander in a house overlooking a lake in Novi Michigan.

That gave us a chance to attend several Ontario artists Meets and make many friends over there, I even visited members. I visited Pam Peters in Whitefish Montana and got a chance to visit the Glacier National Park and I visited Char and Ted in Chatham, Ontario and Bill and Janet Strech in Marlette Michigan. We had two wonderful visits to Lulu and John in New Zealand. On our second visit we went on a tour the South Island with them and I was determined to sketch so did a total of 90 sketches on the trip. Speaking of trips, at a stop over at Nelson I tripped and fell into the gutter, dislocating my thumb in the process. Luckily I was able to pull it back to shape.

Disaster struck at the wetcanvas forum now in its 25th year when the owners declared bankruptcy. Preparations were made decamp to other forums and I set up the Wetcanvas Community Facebook page to communicate with members if the worst happened. Many members have been using the forum over 20 years, Fortunately at the eleventh hour Golden Peak Media came to the rescue and bought the forum and the artistsnetwork publications. Sadly by then many members had moved on. Soon they were to change the forum software and in the process lost a large amount of historic data.

As Ruth was becaming progressively housebound and couldn’t go on holiday I joined the village U3a and started going on day trips for a change of scene. I had started a U3a watercolour class which has now been running 15 years. The owners of our meeting hall were eventually located and a new Committee was formed to manage the hall. I became a committee member.

                Now for Ruth’s story.

                Good morning all,

I’m guessing most any kind of NSAID can cause some kind of potential liver damage.  I was on one in day’s past, and had higher levels of liver function tests than my doctor preferred, so we changed it, and all is good now.  Funny, in dogs, they have the same thing, so my past pups got their meds changed to alter ill effects as well.

Heading to the dentist soon to have the flipper/flapper adjusted.  I haven’t had it in my mouth since I removed it immediately upon getting home from the dental surgeon.  When I tried to place it yesterday, I noticed some swollen gum would be in the way, so way do it….even if I am out and about and until I go back to work, I never run into anyone I know or talk to.

Boy, was it hot yesterday, and after having a covered pool for so long, I went in after hitting the YMCA for my elliptical-type workout and after some shopping.  I still can’t ride a regular bike without pain, but we are progressing as far as this feeling better for me.  Yay!!!  The pups couldn’t wait to swim, and boy did they enjoy it.  They do need a little coaxing, so they let me know they want to by climbing onto the deck.  Of course I need to then get out of the water to bring them on in.  One swim back 18 feet from the far side of the pool to the ladder, and they are good, three times for each pup.  They raced all afternoon in the backyard, cooled and happy.

The dirt they collected on them dried and came off by the time we went in, and it was started to get late by the time I got off my lounge chair and made an entrance for the air conditioning (ugh!!).

Need to make a stop at the doctor’s office after the dentist and then will figure out something to do at the Y and swimming again later…it will be real hot once more.

                Lynn…absolutely beautiful photos!!

Bill…make sure to keep the receipts of the work you’ve done so any warranties are not voided for lack of having the work done at all.

JJ…nice, full day, and Alan is walking with you.  I wish I could get Jack going a bit, but when he feels well, he tends to the yard and what needs doing.

Uschi, you and me both, sitting outside and enjoying.  It will be a shock when the weather abruptly cools.  Brrr….

Well friends, hello to all…Doug, QS and all to come!

                Stay cool!

Your story is fascinating Doug, I am loving it.

I too have met a whole lot of WetCanvas members, from Singapore, New Zealand, England, (my first trip I met Doug) Belgium, Canada, USA  I must count them all up.  I bet over 100 as well Doug.

Uschi, I wasn’t sure what I am allowed to tell you so I googled. “It is a place set apart from the rest of the world where members can draw closer to God. Modern temples are dedicated to the Lord and have purposes similar to biblical ones. They are places of peace, inspiration, and learning. They are also where sacred ceremonies such as marriages are performed.”

What I did tonight was have my biological mother sealed to her husband for all eternity.

                    :bye: everyone,

Another hot day (31) with high humidity. The only way we were able to sleep last night was by keeping all the windows open all night. We can’t do that tonight as it’s supposed to start raining this evening.

I drove the two boys to school this morning (Max walks) then watered the potted plants and did some deadheading while it wasn’t too hot. Now I’m catching up with emails and online things after closing up all the windows. I think supper will be take out again. After today it will be back to normal DLL weather with highs in the teens. I’ll call to get my sprinkler system winterized soon.

:bye: It’s getting hot already, I should have been out at 7 to clear off more of my garden as it did cool down a bit overnight.  I got ready to go out to the Village for our mending session instead, but my ride didn’t come :-(

Thanks for the kind words, I’m happy they have been chosen.  However, I have to get the one of the lake reframed as it is in an old frame that is not good for travelling around much.  The framing gallery is just downstairs in the Carnegie building, so that’s an easy fix.  I put it in the show, as is, thinking I would get it reframed if anyone bought it, so now I do have to, even though it is not sold!

My son is coming to take me to lunch, I am 84 today!   And I will see my daughter on the weekend for lunch.  Almost better, seeing them separately, as the whole family is a bit overpowering.  But I miss the rest, I hope we will have a family gathering for Thanksgiving.

Sorry you are having those issues, Doug.  Me too, can only have one ibuprofen twice a week, but since I haven’t been using them regularly, even one is quite effective, it backs off the joint pain for a few hours and often several days.  They test my blood every 5 weeks and the kidney and liver function can be seen.  I get swelling, but use elastic stockings, which I find help with my walking any distance.  My doc worries, but I’m sure it is just age and too much sitting.  My heart is good so it’s not that.  I hope you find a solution.

Sensible Bill, you are lucky you can do those things.

Looks like you have a nice breeze, JJ.  Good to see :-)   They love their baths.

Uschi, I know what you mean about the holes around the thumb.  I always pickup extra stitches and then knit them together before I make the thumb, it helps.  But I often just make a gusset with added stitches and then finish it with a neat thumb hole rather than a tube because these are fingerless mitts.  I hope you get out before the heat hits.

(((((Char))))) and anyone else needing a Hug

Hi Adena, QS and all to come!
