Good morning all, about to get up. We plan to tour Oxford by bus and on foot today. We had a lovely family dinner at the hotel yesterday. Today David and Helen leave to go south.
Be good.

We must leave our mark on this worldJuly 3, 2018 at 2:03 am #652440Looks like being another hot one……many of my bedding plants have died whilst we were away.
Off to Teesside for eye injection shortly.

July 3, 2018 at 3:35 am #652450Morning all
Feels just a tad cooler but wall to wall sunshine again. Should be nice in Oxford Doug if you avoid the afternoon heat.
Geoff – sorry about the plants. Difficult to go away in this scorching weather.
Tried to cool bedroom by leaving windows open late yesterday only to be invaded
by myriad of moths and minute midges attracted by bedside lamp. Not a good move. In your hair …. everywhere. Will have to wipe off wall where I flattened quite a few!Still picking loads of raspberries and black currants. It’s turning into a remarkable summer but we do need rain!
Painting is difficult in this heat; the paper dries out far to quickly. So psrhaps a bit of sketching today.

July 3, 2018 at 3:47 am #652429Evening all…
Wow …. catching up on news…
Char, big hugs to you and your family.Doug I am frequently being told tofay that this site is insecure.
Is that happening to anyone else?
It is not happening anywhere else I go.Isn’t that amazing news about the trapped boys in Thailand. Going to be there a while yet but at least they have been found alive. Incredible.

July 3, 2018 at 5:27 am #652446Good evening all.
GEoff and Doug
Mike, if you have moths you need a cat then you will never sleep. OK our house is screened so Windows can be opened in summer. Last time I went to England it was a drought. Three weeks without rain ! Though the heavens managed a bit when we were there.
Lulu, the finding of the Thai children in the cave without injury is a GOOD news. I only hope they can get out. It’s their wet season there. But they have been located and will be looked after.
My laptop reports WC as unsafe. I ignore it.
Like the scam phone call yesterday. I saw the OS identity, picked it up and said nothing. Then this very stern Asian voice said she was from internet providers and our net was going to be cut off in… I said a really rude expletive, wasted as it was on a robotic voice, and hung up.
Char ((())). Don’t look at Dr Google, who is an immoral a hole, at least until you have more info. (((())))

My Flickr SiteJuly 3, 2018 at 5:56 am #652441Funny when ‘Microsoft’ scammers ring they always ask for Eileen! Who has not used a computer or a tablet or a cell phone for 20 years,if at all. They have no way of knowing that a specific address has a computer and the MS callers I tell I have a Mac…which I don’t.
Wasted morning, despite me coming back from holiday a day early specifically to check that my appointment for injections was still valid, which I was told it was yesterday, it wasn’t as gap too close to last one….very apologetic at hospital and a new date was given, which I have subsequently changed as away again! grhhhhhhhhhhh.
Too hot, both Eileen, who isn’t too great today, and myself are on rehydration drinks.

July 3, 2018 at 5:57 am #652430Good Morning all,
It is almost 6:00 a.m. here in getting light Oakwood. There is a beautiful color of blue in the sky outside my window and a brilliant orange on the horizon where the sun is rising. Still blazing hot here too unfortunately. Will have to water my garden this morning since the rain that inundated the center where my class is held didn’t come to Oakwood although we heard rumbles of thunder in the distance. :o
My attempt to paint Kari’s picture riding the dust mop yesterday was a bust. I finished the painting, but unfortunately it doesn’t look like Kari. Will give it another go if I can succeed in drawing her face. Hard to do with such a poor reference photo.
Char, I am so sorry about your DIL’s diagnosis, I can only imagine how devastated you all are. I hope they caught it in the early stages and they can do everything and anything they can to keep her going.
Annie, we have a great little device on our phone that let’s us set it on Quiet mode. We don’t hear it ring or any messages anyone leaves on it. If we are watching TV, the number comes up on the screen so we can answer if it is someone we want to talk with. Works like a charm.
Geoff, Sorry your wife was taken ill while you were on vacation. I hope she is recovering now. Poor plants just can’t take all this hot, hot weather unless they get watered which is impossible to do if you aren’t there.
to all who were here earlier and to those on their way.

July 3, 2018 at 6:28 am #652437Good day all,
It’s a cool 62 F but will reach 90 at mid-day.
We don’t answer the phone unless someone is leaving a message. Once you become a senior citizen you are declared an idiot and are fair game for scammers.
Geoff, hope Eileen is feeling better.
Char, much progress has been made in treating lymphoma. We can only hope.
Sylvia, I have the darnedest time with portraits. Color is my biggest problem.
Mike the wall decorator, do they have screens in England? The moths are thick here. I am always bringing a few in with me at night when I step out to pet the wild cat. I shouldn’t but she insist.
I have shopping at Costco and Meijer today. A long trip to the city and back. Hope I don’t run into much holiday traffic.

July 3, 2018 at 6:36 am #652434I went sketching today, just three of us. I was glad to get home, it was very tiring. You can see my sketches here..
Doug enjoy your trip..
JJ, so what exactly was wrong and what did he do to fix it and was it as expensive as quoted???? But whatever, I am soooooo glad for you that it is fixed:clap:
The grey water pipe from the laundry was broken underground and the sewer pipe from the upstairs toilet was broken underground. Plumber said the age of the pipes was the contributor.
I had sewer water seeping into my basement, all along my studio wall, and seeping out to the front door. My sump pump was full of sewer water. This has been happening for many months, with the grey water from the laundry, and we didn’t realise it, it wasn’t until the pipe really crumbled and the sewer joined in the party and the smell started that i twigged was to was..
I had a plumbing inspector come out and helped find the problem. My friend Terry came and cut the concrete and dug out the pipes, the plumber had to dig more. Then he had to repair a sizable part of the sewerage and rebuild the plumbing to the laundry. That part is under ground, as is my basement.
Plumbers are expensive.
Bill I had a cystoscopy yesterday, more involved than I thought. Everything is fine. Thank you all for your kind thoughts.
Lovely photo yesterday Sylvia

July 3, 2018 at 8:01 am #652435everyone,
It’s 18 right now but going up to 31 later with showers. The same prediction and hotter for the next 3 days. All the gardens and potted plants will need watering which is what I’ll do as soon as I’m finished here.My plans are for the gym, light housework, and the woman is coming for the painting this afternoon. All the windows are open right now but I’ll close them soon. We couldn’t open them at all without screens! The mosquitoes and black flies are terrible up here.
((((Char and family)))) I’m so sorry to hear of your DIL’s health issues. :grouphug:
I’m dressed and ready for the gym so I’ll do my watering and close up the windows before I go. Have the best day possible everyone.

July 3, 2018 at 8:55 am #652433Good Morning Washer Bud Family… you cannot know how much you enrich my life with your caring thoughts. I know you’re sincere and I appreciate you more than words can express.
It’s going to be another scorcher. We are helping our gardens limp along with lots of water. Of course, that has the water pump running more than usual. And the air conditioning is keeping us comfortable in the house. Our hydro metre is loving this and we’ll owe our souls to Ontario Hydro when our next bill arrives.
I have a quick exercise ready for today’s Class… little poppies painted wet on dry without drawing. This kind of workup helps them gain confidence in their brushstrokes and what they actually know, rather than trying to faithfully use their references.
Not running with scissors today, Doug… the heat saps my energy.
Geoff, the only flowers looking beautiful here is the portulaca… it’s thriving in this heat. I’m sorry that Eileen is still feeling icky… and you’d think those Microsoft callers would finally get the message.
Speaking of scam calls… I regularly get a phone call from someone claiming to refund $299 that I paid out last year to the Geek Squad. Except that I didn’t ever pay that. They want me to “press 1” if I want my refund. I don’t press 1.
Mike, I genuinely over your moths to the light. Sorry… not sorry.
Lulu, I have stopped watching the news. But in happenstance, I caught this wonderful announcement when passing through the family room to turn off the tv last night. It’s thrilling.
Too late, Annie… it was challenging to read through leaky eyes. I know we must wait for more test results… I just can’t imagine the heartache that my Son is going through… and then my Granddaughters.
Sylvia, what a shame that your painting didn’t turn out. Turn your reference upside down and draw what you see, not what you think you know.
Bill, we found that people stayed home pretty much on Canada Day… we attributed it to the heat. that you won’t get bogged down in traffic.
JJ, I sure that you’re relieved that the plumbing has finally been fixed. I did see your sketch on FB. I hope your cystoscopy was successful.
Ellen, I’m sure your Client will love that portrait. And I’m just as sure you’ll be happy to get it out of your Studio!
Have a great day everyone! :grouphug:

July 3, 2018 at 9:13 am #652432I am on my out the door to visit with my poor baby son (44) in hospital. That’s in Kitchener, 45 minutes there and back and I need to get back before it gets too hot.

July 3, 2018 at 10:12 am #652451A good Tuesday to all……we have cloud cover today, so it won’t get quite as hot as we’ve been that past 4-5 days…yesterday 3 miles east of us got 2.75″ of rain in about 45 minutes….we didn’t get a drop, lots of dark clouds, lots of lightening, but no rain. We have triple digit heat indexes called for the next week………and it’s not just us. This trend is world wide…..and we still have people here claiming climate change is all a hoax………these are the same people who will believe Trump’s pissing on their legs is actually rain…..go figure.
Yes…I’m mending, my grumpy old man mood is back to normal. Actually, got out and mowed the yard early yesterday and then rested most of the day. Would have painted, but when my energy levels drop from doing something, my coordination drops proportionally…..makes controlling a brush or pen rather frustrating…..and that creates the paradox, when I’m rested and my coordination is up, do I paint or make progress on the list of projects to get done? Right now, I’ve been concentrating on the projects list….we have to get everything done around this house to be in the position that we could put it on the market if we so elect……Lisa is about 4 years from reaching her retirement bracket with the PD’s office and I suspect she’s going to take advantage of early retirement…….burnout is a real thing in Public Defenders, and I definitely see all the signs of burnout. I suspect that full time RVer status is coming more quickly than I suspected……….
Char……hugs and healing thoughts to your family. Take it one day at a time..cross the bridge in front of you. Don’t focus on the bridge 5 miles down the road. My mother was diagnosed Stage 4 with HL in her 60’s…she went through the surgery, chemo and radiation……she passed away at age 92 in her sleep.
Uschi….yes, I’m alive and well……I’m a retreater when I have one of those summer crude things or when my pain levels get too high, I withdraw….it’s my way of coping, I focus all of my energy in recovering.
JJ….good news about your plumbing issues………not so good about the cost. I keep pushing my grandson, medical discharged from the Marines, to look at trade school………society will always need plumbers, electricians, hvac mechanics, auto mechanics, welders, etc., etc….and I know a heck of a lot more trades people making 6 figure incomes than I know college grads making 6 figures…….my electrician can’t schedule my garage for 2 months because he’s finishing up his “lake front weekend home” in east Tennessee….that’s just over 4000 SF……????
Geoff, Doug, Bill, Les, Annie, Lulu, Mike, Ellen, Sylvia…….and everybody else….good thoughts, healing energy, and peace be unto you all………Be good, do good….spread positive thoughts………..BBL

July 3, 2018 at 10:14 am #652452I noticed yesterday that the sage was starting to bloom profusely, and I thought “we’ll get rain within a week”. Looked at the forecast today: Wed-60%, Thur-70%, Fri-60%, Sat-70%, Sun-60%. Seems like this is out of nowhere. I trust the Texas sage Bush as a rain predictor. Temps will cool a bit to the mid-90’s, which will be a bit of a relief.
“The sage in bloom is like perfume …. deep in the heart of Texas”.
Always learning so C&C invited and always welcomed
