JJ, yes, they are called turkey buzzards because of their size.

Bill I had one come and sit beside me when I was sketching on top of Mount Nemo in Ontario.  Beautiful creatures when you get up close and personal with them.

QS I did a quick search and “A totem is a spirit being, sacred object, or symbol that serves as an emblem of a group of people, such as a family, clan, lineage, or tribe, such as in the Anishinaabe clan system.”

I have two Totems a brown bear and a turkey vulture.  I was told by a Canadian Indian that these were my Totems, protectors, because the Turkey Vulture sat by me which is totally out of character and I had a very vivid dream of a brown bear sitting on a log with me.

What is the most common totem?

The Porcupine/Hedgehog (Ngara) totem is widely regarded as one of the most common totem. They’re known as the King’s In-law (Mukwasha waMambo).

A good Tuesday to all……another clouded day ahead for the morning, maybe some sun this afternoon but that builds up the thunderstorms.  Highs in the mid 80’s with our chances of rain mostly in the afternoon and evening.  August weather this year is turning out as abnormal as our June/July weather was…..just in the other direction.  Gardening this year has been a waste.  What survived the high heat we had in June and July, is now rotting away in too much wetness.

Another day of no big plans.  Yesterday’s Dr. appointment kind messed any type of scheduling up, though I did get to Sams and Kroger’s afterwards.  Checked out good for another year with the annual physical.  Dr. says the arthritis in the neck is progressing and most likely the cause of my tension headaches and the “grinding” sensations I’m feeling and hearing when I turn my head.  Gave me a stronger dosage of Naproxen than the over counter stuff and it helped immensely last night.  Normally by the evening, I’ve got a killer tension headache and to the point that to turn my head I turn my whole upper body.  No headache last night and Lisa said I was turning normally.  I’ll try another around 0900 and hope I get the same results.  Today I’ll try and find some tree guys to take down the Peepal tree between the garages.  Roofer doesn’t want to redo the roofs until the tree is gone……1. the lower branches overhang the carport garage making working on the roof treacherous, and 2. until it’s gone, the water it sheds on the roof will just continue the damage.  Looks like we’re going to need to sister new rafters on 6 of the existing and replace 8 of the 1×8 deck board courses to repair the long term damage. $$$

Mike……none of us bounce good anymore.  Hope the pain level recedes quickly.

Doug…..Sleep Number bed…..we’ve had our about 8 years now and it’s still just as comfortable as the day we bought it.  Love that I can adjust the firmness as needed.

Lulu….love Ali Cavanaugh’s work, her figurative details are amazing.  She lives about 3 hours NW of us in St. Genevieve, MZ.  She had a book signing thing at a local bookstore (Novel) back in 2019,  I bought one of her books, but didn’t stand in the long line to get it signed.  While I’m amazed with her work, I think she’s stuck in a rut of her early success and reception.  Her work is almost repetitive now……still amazingly detailed and conveys the impression, but seems stagnant……….but then she does have 4 kids……I always wonder when she finds the time?

Lisa’s up……gonna join her in the Beaches Room for morning coffee…..BBL

Be good, go good…….Have a great day, evening or night.

    Steve.

    :bye: everyone,

Cloudy today but it will be perfect temperatures with a high of 23. I got the grass cut yesterday so just a bit of watering to do. We are heading to Home Depot shortly in Brian’s red truck   to pick up the handrail parts. Putting that up should keep me busy this morning. I want to do a little shopping after lunch. We are waiting to hear from the window people today and we need to call a plumber about the small leak in the pantry.

Our clean up crews are usually Ravens or crows.

        Evening all….

Nearly lights out time here. Have another birthday coffee morning with friends tomorrow so that extends the celebrations somewhat. Have to say that birthdays are quite tiring! I guess its better than the alternative! Haha

Steve, have you seen Ali’s latest work? She has moved right away from her earlier detailed work, lots of loose watery ‘blooms’ etc in her paintings now.  She is a busy lady alright. I would have liked a copy of her Modern Frescoes book, but sadly out of print. She no longer paints on aquabord, or rarely, but on mdf panels, or similar, which she preps herself.

        Bb in my tomorrow.

        Night all.

Steve, I have Spondylitis in my neck, have had it for a long time.  These exercises in this video are what my physiotherapist has told me to do every day.  I do the first three mostly, when I am in the car at the stop lights, sitting in the Drs office or wherever, even when I am sitting having lunch.  I have not needed to take drugs, these exercises keep the pain away.

            Good Morning!!

A high of 26C plus humidity. The parade of thunderstorms has finished for the time being we received a few more drops from sideswipes and that is it.

Nothing new happening here either, same old, same old. Something will come along to fill the day.

Doug, why did you get the mattress topper in the first place and why did you remove it again??? My 2″ memory foam is wonderful and I look forward to it every time I slip into bed. P.S. But in spite of it, everything hurts by the time I get up in the morning LOL

Lulu, the reason I mentioned the stretched watercolour paper is because of comments here that framers are closing their business and it is acrylic painters and watercolour paper wrapers’ fault because they don’t really need a frame LOL Ali Cavanaugh – beautiful work!! Still envious about your line dancing, always will be LOL

Mike, sorry your hip is still hurting you, you have good company here with me and also with the brown grass and suffering flowers, trees etc.

Doug, I have never tried Aquabord, would be interesting.

JJ, like Doug said, your birdies are getting crowded.

Bill, everything in nature has its place  I wish our plastic mess etc. could be cleaned up so effectively and efficiently. Maybe we are no longer part of nature

QS, sorry you are losing your art supply stores, there is nothing like a good browse around in one. Mine is about 30km south from me, Curry’s, and I just checked their website and it looks like they have expanded. They used to have one store in a small strip mall and then they took over another store and it looks like now they have taken over all the stores. I haven’t been there in years.
Here, too, every store that closes seems to be replaced by a cafe or restaurant or small pub. Son and I were talking about that just a couple of days ago. I guess that’s one of the few things that can’t be replaced by the internet.

Sylvia, as you said, the Xray will tell, hope it isn’t arthritis because that won’t get better and you want your knee to get better LOL Does it hurt you when you do your biking exercises???

Steve, glad the stronger Naproxen works. I am so hesitant to take these kind of pain killers because they make me woozy and I don’t like that feeling at all. Does it not affect you ???

Ellen, you’ll have that rail up in no time :-)

                Morning Everyone

I have to get dressed soon & make a quick drive to Tipp to the CVS to pick up a script. I have a routine 3 month Dr. appt. on Thursday morning. He will be happy to hear that I have signed up with the Rec Center here in town & due to Keith’s company health insurance I have to get 30 visits in by the end of November in order for us to get the best insurance premium rate. We both have to meet a list of 100 points for this to happen otherwise our cost goes up $160 more a month than we pay now. At first it stressed me out quite a bit but I took the list & figured out how I could get the 100 points for myself. So it looks like morning gym visits will start for me. Geez!!!!

Today is Keith’s 64th Birthday. Don’t know how that happened. He is doing well health wise & runs before work about 3 days a week & on Saturday weather permitting. I bought a Carrot Cake for his birthday & a bag of Starbuck’s Fall Blend coffee. He loves his coffee. We might try to do something fun this weekend. Not sure what that will be.

                Sending good thoughts to everyone.

                Anita

Good morning.  Full 7 hours of sleep without any pain in my new knee.  I finally followed the advice of an online PT and put a small pillow under my knees.  I should have done that sooner.

Woke up to drizzle of rain, nothing much more than that is expected.

Sylvia, You will either get a steroid shot or the gel shot that will stop the pain for about six months.  Both will relieve the pain.

                Hi to everyone!

I ordered a small palette from Bromley’s last March.  The palette was only available in the UK but shipping was not too high and because I was out of country there was no added VAT.  I just ordered an art book from a UK publisher and it was also no VAT and the shipping was free.  Half the price of Amazon’s offer.

Steve, I’ve had osteoarthritis neck pain since my late forties.  Terrible pain but eventually you get accustomed to it, and the pain is minimal.  I do avoid all sugars and few pastries which cause so much of our inflammation.  I take naproxen only when the pain is severe as naproxen is bad for the heart.

Uschi, I, too, use a two inch topper, which is quite comfortable, and like you, I get up with stiff joints.  A little stretching brings me around.

Ellen, Brian had to have a fire engine red truck, didn’t he? LOL

I fed Ms. Feral late this morning and Janet said she was using a long line of swear words she had never heard before.  She thinks she owns me.  Well….

Yes, Uschi, for the first four or five turns of the pedals it does hurt, but then it goes away and I continue for the half hour. Finish a lot of books while exercising, can’t beat that!

Nancy, yes, that is what the doctor said will probably work, and the x-rays will come in handy for that too as well as diagnosing the problem.

Happy Birthday to your Keith, Anita! Good you will be getting your exercises in too.

                    Cheers to all again.

LOL Anita, that is one way to get you motivated and force you into action!!! Shows you how important the insurance company thinks exercise is, obviously reduces a lot of their health issue claims. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to KEITH!!!! Soooo young LOL

Bill, yes, moving greases the joints. I told Juergen that nature, in it’s incredible wisdom to create the body. missed out on creating little holes at the joints so we could just squeeze a bit of lubricant into in and are good to go.

Good day all!  A cool and cloudy day so far, I have to go out for eye measurements today, I see the specialist next week.  So I’ll get some things done downtown at the same time.  Had a very brief power outage with the last thunder booms, seemed to be right over our heads, but it blew the fuse for my air conditioner.  A bit alarming!  I think it might have been caused by the power bar that is plugged in to the same outlet.  I will dedicate that outlet to the air conditioner now, and get a new power bar for those other minor things and plug it in elsewhere.  Always a juggle, where to put things in the few outlets here, but that is the first fuse gone in my 11 years here, so that is not too bad.

My DD seems to be happy about her holiday now, I got this around noon yesterday :-)

I’m finally getting back to some knitting, and I have heard of a community centre where they are asking for donated yarn, so that is a relief.  I have too many orphan balls and others that were a purchase mistake!  We are opening Christmas sales 2 weeks earlier this year at the Gallery (we have been later than all the other stores in town for some years now)

I’m chuckling, Bill, I can just hear Mrs Feral complaining!  Of course you are her slave

Steve, I am seeing a physio for a similar problem with my neck.  Although there is no grinding, just the fierce headache at times, often when I wake up.  He has given me some of the exercises JJ mentioned above, and has managed to get the joints more mobile but the manipulation is a bid scary, so many nerves and vessels involved.  I need to tuck my chin in when I am upright!  I’m sorry you are in pain, it’s no fun (((())))

I would dearly love a sleep number bed, they are not available here.  I make do with my little inflatables, but feel guilty every time I have to throw one out when it starts to leak.

Good that the doc has some solutions, Sylvia.

JJ, I had the cup granola today again, and again it started to burn.  I have a 700W oven, and even with those short recipe times for the 1100W oven, you have to watch carefully!  But it was still tasty :-)

It is something special about dancing, Lulu, we all want to spread the word!  Our teacher does for free it in the summer just so she can dance with a group too.  She does get paid a little from the winter sessions with the Senior Centre, but mostly from the love of it and all her friends in the group.  Then the keen ones dance every Friday in their club at a local church as well!  Can’t get enough dancing :-)

I have had two red trucks over the years, does that give me membership in a special club? LOL

Sympathies for the sore hip Mike, I hope it fades.

:good: for the good sleep Nancy!

Uschi, I posted the skating links in yesterday’s post :-)

That is a shame, QS, about the store closing.  I love wandering around our Curry’s, but it is dangerous, I always leave with something I didn’t go for.  Anyone need any book making supplies LOL.  So nice, though, that you can just get on the train and have an entertaining trip out.

I’m enjoying your progress in decorating your house, Anita, it is great to find things that are just right!

Hi everyone to come and those I’ve missed!

                        :rose:

Good morning Washers!  The sun is shining, the temperature and humidity are rising… typical summer day. My morning ablutions are done and Kenzie is making a bite of breakfast for me. We had our coffee together. Shades of my Ted.

Dr. Brahmania telephoned us this morning. He is considering a transfer to London for Ted.  He is contacting our family Dr. and will then let us know the next steps.

Doug, you might very well benefit from a new mattress. They are much different from 30 years ago.

Birthday weeks are so much fun, Lulu. I loved it when Uschi, Gail,  and one year Ellen spent a week with me! Ali’s work is truly gorgeous!

Anita, I’m enjoying your decorating journey with your home. Keep posting.

Uschi, we got a tiny bit more rain than you did, but our stressed trees are dropping leaves.

Nancy and Steve, the Dallas flooding worsens and I am glad you’re away from it.

Mike, I’m sorry that your hip is still playing up on you.

Sylvia, when you’re feeling pain, take your meds. We all have a tendency to avoid them, “putting up” with the discomfort.  That stresses your body.

QS, as I mentioned yesterday, I’ve lost two stores. While it no longer impacts me, it’s hard for my Students. I still have a couple of really good online stores though.

Bill, did I miss the finish of your walkway?

JJ, those exercises do look helpful. If I had a totem, it would be a lioness I think.

Ellen, your home looks beautiful!  You sure made a good colour choice.
