Good morning friends, a fine day is forecast, I’ll put the car on charge.

We get our bed delivered today and an agent is coming to measure the stairs.

Peter is driving the west coast of Wales today from Pembroke to Conway. Hopefully the weather will be kind, we have had so much rain.

Good morning Doug, JJ and all to come.  A lovely sunny morning here and I’m just about ready to set off to the hospital with my neighbour.

I hope the bed livees up to your expectations, Doug.

Hope all went well for Alan’s Dr’s appointment, JJ.  Sometimes simple meals are just what you fancy and the steak won’t go to waste.  You won’t have to think about what to cook tomorrow.

Have a good day, everyone.  Must dash.

        Good Morning all,

It is 4:40 a.m. here in dark and sleepy (except for the noisy cricket outside my door) Oakwood. Our rains have quieted for now, but we are still recovering from the ones we had a couple of days ago…some people in the area are still without electricity. The states farther south that had the full blast from the hurricane are devastated. It is tragic.

Hope they are able to get your new bed up the stairs today, Doug, and you and Ruth sleep happily in it tonight.

Sorry you aren’t feeling too well lately, JJ. You usually have so much vim and vigor. Maybe tomorrow will be steak day.

Nice to help your neighbor on the way to the hospital, Joy.

Anita, I’m glad you had such a nice visit with your son in Pennsylvania. That’s where I am from originally, but farther east near Philadelphia.

Hi JJ, Joy, Sylvia. I just checked on Cheap Joe’s and despite the devastation around them they are open for business.

        :bye: everyone,

I woke up at 4:00 and couldn’t get back to sleep. I think I’ll need a nap later.

We had a busy day yesterday but got a lot accomplished. Brian’s boat finally sold so now he can park in the driveway again. He also spent most of the day organizing the garage so he can fit his motorcycle in it for the winter. We are waiting for the garage door weatherstripping to arrive (the store was out of stock) and then we’ll replace it to keep mice and the cold out. I got some of the garden cut down where it had started to die back. I have to pick up the debris from that this morning. We had a last minute invitation to eat at my son’s for supper so we brought over the last of last year’s Xmas baking from the freezer. I have to start this year’s in a couple of weeks but I’ll cut down again on the amount. Max was over to choose his Xmas presents and they are ordered. That’s the boys almost done with gift buying. Matteo just has to decide which bunk bed he wants.

Today Brian has to drive his friend to the doctor’s to get his staples out from the surgery. Then he will move his motorcycle to the garage and we’ll do some rearranging of our seating area outside ready for winter. It’s supposed to rain most of the day so we’ll see how our plans work out.

I have a painting I have to do for our art club’s show at our local museum in December. I know what I’m going to paint but just found out that the title and size has to be given in a couple of weeks so labels can be printed for the wall. I want to get that organized today. I think I have a floating frame and once I know I have a canvas to fit I can send them the info. Then I just have to paint it.

I hear Brian stirring so I’ll be back later.

Well, we have a new adjustable bed :good:

We have also ordered a reconditioned stairlift at 1/3 the price of a new one.

            Good day all,

Doug, glad your bed is installed.  Hope it helps with your sleep.  Good deal on the lift.  Did Ruth ever find her needle?  I was visualizing her knitting with one needle.

JJ, poached eggs on toast is a nice light meal.  Steak in the evening would be too much for me.

            Joy, have a good day.

Sylvia, glad you and Anita didn’t suffer from the storm.  Looks like another like it is brewing.

Ellen, nice that Brian is so helpful for his friend and good that he finally sold his boat.

I have a Historical society meeting today then we take a break for the winter.

                Good Morning!!!!

Unbelievably nice fall weather!!! Sun and a high of 22C.

I had a nice visit with my neighbor yesterday evening. Today is a painting day with Jeanette. She wanted to try portraits and chose a picture of her little grandson, about 2 1/2, cute as a button but the skin is soooo smooth and evenly toned that I am not sure how we will get some shaping, shading, depth in there. Oh well, it will be an experiment.

Audrey went on a bus trip to the Niagara Falls casino yesterday, I hope she won :-)

Our Evergreen Senior Center is opening up again, everyone will be happy about that.

Doug, I hope the bed installation goes flawless and you an Ruth feel like you are in heaven when you sleep in it.

JJ, money saved and the steak will taste good tomorrow :-)

Joy, I feel for your neighbor and his driving restriction, it is so nice that you are helping out!!!

Sylvia, I am so glad you got away lightly with the storm but what devastation for those affected. I saw a program last night (60 Minutes) where they showed how people from the hurricane 2 years ago still have not had their damage repaired because the insurance company is cheating them. Seems the insurance company changed the assessment from what the adjuster gave them. Seems that kind of cheating is done on a regular basis and by many insurance companies.

Ellen, YAY that the boat is finally sold. You are doing so well with your Xmas shopping and planning. Isn’t it interesting how once we couldn’t wait to sit down and paint and now we all all dragging our feel – except Sylvia and Fookie :-)

Lulu, enjoy your sister’s stay and I hope your Floater will eventually float away :-)

Fookie, learning to play chess, you are ambitious!!

Doug, glad all went well with the bed now for the fun of how to best adjust it!!!

                Uschi

P.S. Hi Bill, I just saw you, too bad that the Historical Society is shutting down just after you started.

Good afternoon, All.  I had an appointment for a blood test this morning, then I went to the library, and on the way back to the car I bumped into a friend and we had a quick chat.

Once I was home the chap who services our alarm system called and then we had lunch.

So here I am enjoying a post lunch cup of tea.

Anita, I would not expect to have a cup of tea in an English pub.  They sell beer, spirits, mixers and soft drinks, and wine, and they also carry snacks.  If they sell food, then you would be able to have a pot of tea, or a cup of coffee, after a meal, but in the UK we would usually go to a café for an afternoon cuppa.  Having said that, I know my neighbour goes to the pub at the end of the road and has a coffee, if she doesn’t feel like going up to the Main Street.  They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner as they have some prettying rooms, so they are well equipped to provide hot drinks at any time.  There’s café culture and pub culture.  Lots of pubs are diversifying nowadays so more may come to serve hot drinks.  Way back in the day, pubs didn’t sell wine or cocktails but they’ve had to move on since they are no longer a male preserve!

It sounds like you had a great trip, and saw lots of things and I hope you haven’t caught a chill, Anita.

I’ve enjoyed reading what everyone is up to.  We’re enjoying a quite time after our gallivanting.  The highlight of my week will be a Flu jab on Sunday afternoon, but my beloved is going to the pub with a friend tonight.  Hopefully he’ll come back with lots of news.

                    Meanwhile Sketchbook Revival is calling!

                            HELLO EVERYONE

IT IS OCTOBER 2024!!!!!  WOW can you believe it.

Another gloomy day here. More rain showers today. They say we will have sunshine tomorrow & by Friday temps at 80F for the weekend.

Josh is coming over today at 11 am & we are going to Sam’s Club to do the Winter stock up shop.

I have been following the hurricane damage very closely & seen some first accounts on Youtube channels. I am very interested in being able to survive in case of extreme emergancy. One channel from NC who has a farm talked about the Mutual Assistance Group that his neighbors had formed. I think that would be a great idea. I’d be interested in getting one started in our neighborhood.

Another woman who lived in SC & they had downsized their homestead farm & had plans in place said that even with their planning the last 4 days have shown where holes exist in their plans. She was really a good speaker & apparently well know in the Homestead way of life & had just given a lecture in Vermont on getting thru tough times. I’ll be following her.

Hopefully I can teach Josh some of this. I overheard a conversation on the plane from 2 women & one said she told her husband to just keep everyone alive till I get back home. She said she considers that her job in life. The other lady said that’s the best description of a Mom & Wife I’ve ever heard.

I wondered about Cheap Joes Art Supply in Boone, NC also. Good to know that they survived. You know Joe would be helping the local people if he were alive.

I bought a book at Justin’s bookstore by Amy Tan called THE BACKYARD BIRD CHRONICLES. It is a wonderful book on her bird watching & her sketchbooks & painting of birds. She is the author of several books one being The Joy Luck Club. I am really enjoying it. She didn’t start sketching until 64 yo. So there’s hope for me.

Justin hopped on a plane Monday & is in Maine exploring. He does not have to be back at work until Oct.10. He loves to visit & explore different places & he has a rule of not eating at chain eateries. He likes the local places. Yesterday he had Lobster roll & clam chowdder. He sent me some beautiful pics.

Doug—Yeah for the new bed & I sure hope they can get it up the stairs. Hope the stair lift works out and where did that knitting needle get go?

JJ—You can use an easy evening.

Sylvia—I missed say Hi to you yesterday. I was trying to rem everyone but I knew I’d miss someone. Glad the knee shot has helped but having to have knee replacement surgery would not be something to look forward to but they do them all the time. Winter would be a good time to go thru recovery & you would be in good shape for Spring.

Lulu—Sounds like you made the right decision on the eye surgery. One of the eye injections I used to get when the med was injected inside my eye it looked like a dot of black ink. It took a couple of days to disappear but it was kind of odd.

Bill—Our local Historical Society holds Open House on 2 Sundays a month from May thru Oct or Nov I think. Closed in Winter. Check out the Fort Hunter Mansion in Harrisburg, PA. You would love it.

Fookie —So good to hear from you.

Ellen—Progress being made at your home in prep for Winter too. I think I will buy Josh & Sarah some attachments for the Kitchen Aid mixer I got them last year.

Hello to all I must get some breakfast & get myself ready.

                            Anita

Good morning.  Another good night’s sleep in until 8:30 a.m.  I am finally getting used to the new sleeping arrangements.

Our highlight today will be a trip to Target and a walk through the whole store to get some exercise.  We are prepping for our Vegas Trip.

I’ll just say what Anita said this time around.  I need to get my day started.

                                Hi all,

I know, MIA again.  This time I got behind in reading the wash by ten or 12 days!  I also got thrown out again, and had to go find my password.

                                Before I forget ——

Happy 100th Birthday to President Jimmy Carter!

Augie had a hypoglycemic crash this morning, so all plans went out the window.  She’d been doing so well.

Doug I hope the bed gives you both a terrific night’s sleep, and the stairlift goes in smoothly.

Anita your trip sounded wonderful.  I love wandering through rose gardens too.

Sylvia I think you’ll do wonderfully with the knee surgery.  You’re very disciplined about the PT, and that is the secret.

Lulu I hope the laser surgery worked.  Enjoy your time with family and friends.

Ellen glad Brian was able to sell the boat.

Bill I’m glad Janet is home.

Steve I am intrigued by your plans for the container home.  I was wondering about how you insulate those things.

Nancy I’m glad your muse is back.

Joy what a wonderful neighbor you are.  And Ebony is adorable.

Betty I’m so glad you are able to curl again.  Glad the roof is finally finished.

QS glad you had a wonderful trip as well.

Thank you for checking of CheapJoes’ was so concerned for them.

local Art club has amazing teacher, versed in all mediums and still young. He has begun a Sunday School which starts this Sunday. I am excited for this as the extremes in summer have me isolating again . This Sunday school kicks me in the pants to get outside myself. i hope when summer residents come back Open Art will be fun again. through the club I’ve found the most fun are oil painters, lots of laughing. My dearest friend is also back from the shore but she is political Precinct Captain so unavailable until end of October. Miss her, another Uschi type.

I was so lazy this weekend that I did not even do the wash, so Must today. I keep just one fitted sheet for my bed so wash it twice weekly. I not only dislike folding it, but storage is tight.

I received notice of class action being accepted for Subaru vehicles with defective fuel pumps during X years. I had TWO of them-showroom new and both self-accelerated causing much damage. the second broke my foot which is still painful, despite being healed. I have to answer that call because I do have questions.

I think someone said their wife has dementia. My mother and her mother did too–very wicked disease and so sorry to hear. Father insisted on keeping mother at home until she passed but it did take a tool on him. Must have respite to restore caretaker sanity, he did not.
