Where is everybody?
Lovely day today. Met up with Tania and we went to her local takeaway shop for lunch. Y’Eaten is a Kiwi shop owned by Kiwis. We love going their and supporting them. I had Mussels battered and we all had one of Dees’ home made Chocolate Eclairs. Just to die for. They had Pork and Puha Boil-up as well, oh, and traditional FryBread. Sadly I can’t eat either. I did buy Seafood Chowder for my dinner tonight.
I hope all are as well as they can be today, and stay safe. xxx
My potting corner.

My Youtube videosJanuary 22, 2022 at 1:11 am #1454728Good morning all, that’s a nice potting area JJ, something I need.
Still rather murky here but a tad warmer – 8/9C expected.
I have to pop out for birthday cards for my son’s this morning.

We must leave our mark on this worldJanuary 22, 2022 at 3:03 am #1454733Good morning JJ and Doug. We’re here … just a bit late surfacing.
Exhausting day yesterday; visit to haematologist for blood check & consultation. Running late and then had almost 2 hour wait for drugs from hospital pharmacy. Consultant happy with my results and said I could have fourth Covid jab because of severely damaged immune system . She arranged for visit there and then to vaccination centre a couple of miles away. Traffic terrible but found centre, had jab and eventually arrived home after being out nearly whole day. Had walked miles through hospital corridors and up and down stairs and had no lunch but grabbed sandwich at hospital shop. Didn’t realise how much day had taken out of me and fell asleep at dinner time. The vaccination centre people very kind and seeing me wobbling back to my car, rushed out tapped window and offered me a cup of tea and a sit down. Can’t fault them – feel so lucky to be getting jab and monitored by haematologist – just annoying that I am so decrepit and slow these days! That’s enough self pity – I know there are many ‘Washers’ who have to cope with far worse problems !!Best wishes to you all – good luck Brian with the glaucoma and take care Ellen on that long drive. Good news on the ankle Kay ?. I shall not be wild smimming today QS . We had a neighbour years ago who swam in his pool 365 days a year and on Christmas Day from Bournemouth Beach. He died aged 58 …. enough said.

January 22, 2022 at 3:35 am #1454734Good Morning, JJ, Doug and Mike.
Modern hospitals can be enormous and exhausting, Mike, but you achieved a lot and the staff were kind. You story about your swimming neighbour reminded me of Jim Fixx, a man who wrote books on running and encouraged the jogging craze. He died, aged 52, while jogging. Luckily I don’t have the knees for jogging. Make sure you take it easy today. Think of the Queen Mother, not what you’d call a natural athlete, and fond of a tipple too, yet she lived to a ripe old age. I think if we can keep our spirits up and concentrate on our achievements that helps, as does being able to afford to live comfortably. Lots of food bank appeals going on here.
I hope everyone has the best day they can.

January 22, 2022 at 3:47 am #1454736Good Morning all,
It is 5:45 a.m. here in very cold and dark Oakwood. Another chilly day ahead for us here. Snow forecast for tomorrow with amount rising with each forecast.
I’m going to the grocery store today to stock up on milk and produce so we won’t have to worry about it while driving is treacherous.
to all,
SYL,
Sylvia
January 22, 2022 at 4:32 am #1454742Good morning Mike, sorry the hospital visit took so much out of you. It might be worth considering a wheelchair next time.
Good morning QS and Sylvia.

We must leave our mark on this worldJanuary 22, 2022 at 4:40 am #1454743Good day all,
Been very busy the last two days and have been absent for a bit.
Very cold weather here, which is depressing, also, Putin is worrying.
Mike, so sorry for your stressful day yesterday. Your medical staff seem to be very kind people. You are in good hands.
I would swim if I could, it’s great exercise, but perhaps your friend had a condition and his heart was weak. Fix, had a bad heart and didn’t know it. I walk!
Must get a couple more hours sleep before I can take on the day. Sleep is fleeting lately.

January 22, 2022 at 4:50 am #1454744(((((Mike))))) Big Hugs. Good you can tell us how you feel and not bottle it up.
Doug, that was an old BBQ and it makes an awesome potting area and nursery.
Hey GS xx
Sylvia, enjoy your trip out. xx
Hey Bill. I received your gorgeous card. Thank you.

My Youtube videosJanuary 22, 2022 at 6:53 am #1454746everyone,
A grey day and warmer at -8 so of course it will snow all day.
I’ve made my to do list for the day and will include a nap after lunch. I find I’m falling asleep in my chair when I sit down so I must need more sleep. Maybe a daily nap will give me more energy and I won’t snack just to stay awake.
Winter days are one just like the last so I need to make better use of my time. A bit of exercise following an online program is also on the list again. I haven’t done it in months between work on the hedge fight then Xmas decorating, holiday, and undecorating. Time to do things for my health again.
I’ve finished my emails, banking, and checked my calendar. Time to actually get moving.
Have the best day possible and stay safe everyone.

January 22, 2022 at 6:57 am #1454747Good Morning!!
Another very cold night but the day is warming up to -7C. Sunshine out there right now, it appears earlier and earlier – days are getting longer
JJ, I could do with a nice potting corner too, very handy!!
Doug, it looked like minus 8/9C expected on your post and I wondered why you weren’t complaining about the freezing cold until I realized the – was a dash and not a minus
Mike, great that you got your fourth shot and yes, those hospital hallways are long and a challenge when walking is painful or difficult BUT you made it
QS, those Royals have one heck of a fabulous genetic pool. It reminds me of our 94 year old Anneliese who was very physically active in her life but her mother’s husband died in his 60’s and after that the mother was scared to go out alone and had no exercise at all and she lived until 96 too.
Sylvia, Larry must be envious of you doing your grocery shopping by yourself
Bill, yes, hurry up Spring!!!
Char, I can’t believe our brilliant sun didn’t get down to you , that’s what you get for being a bit warmer. Such good news about Ted’s organ recovery, the human body is amazing, is it the sense of purpose that is spurring on the healing?? I didn’t realize you were still suffering with the back pain I guess since doctors etc. were so lenient prescribing the addictive opioid pills now they are extra careful. Gorgeous photos in yesterday’s Wash, I don’t know if I ever saw one of those Hawk Moths, they almost look like little birds.
Hi Kate!!!
Lulu, well after seeing your bike lane/path I am no longer so overly impressed with your biking, the path is so smooth and even the bike will run by itself after just one push What a shame about your SIL, so sad.
PS.: Hi Ellen!!!!!

January 22, 2022 at 8:01 am #1454749Hi Sylvia, Bill, Ellen & Uschi.
QS – I agree with you about counting our blessings. And Doug – you are right – I should have found a wheelchair; afraid my pride got the better of me !Uschi – you are right. The days are getting noticeably longer. Sunrise is a little further left each day now …. hurrah …… things are looking up.

January 22, 2022 at 8:02 am #1454750After a lovely but cold day yesterday, we get more of the same. A bit overcast at the moment. I did get out, to the dentist with many layers of clothing. I have a couple of little cavities, that will give me another trip Not my favourite excursion, but it was not too windy so I used the bus for a trip I would have normally walked on the trail. The walking was ok as long as you watched for the odd icy patch, sidewalks were clear otherwise. I need some muffins, so that is the plan for today.
Yes, Uschi, I’ll make a cord for the mittens, mixed beige and green. And it is nice, a little bit more light each day Watched the ladies skate this morning, pretty wonderful….not ours so much although they did their best. But the Korean women were spectacular, and one tiny Japanese lady stole the show!
Good to see you pop in, Kate, and don’t apologize, it is great that you are keeping up that sketch thread, I still plan to join…someday when my stash of stuff is reduced I enjoy seeing your sketches on FB.
Those are wonderful photos Char, so difficult to get! Love the hawk moth, never seen one is such detail. Glad the drug is working for you. A shame about your friend I finally connected with my high school friend on the Island and we gabbed for half an hour
Love the photo, Lulu! At least you could see it coming. Our interruptions are liable to be deer who just leap out of the bushes at the side of the road without warning! That path is certainly inviting otherwise. You would love the trail that goes by my place
(((((Mike)))))
Sounds delicious JJ!
Safe driving, Sylvia.
I’m in the same boat, Ellen, trying to catch up on my exercises. So important to have some endurance and ability to walk in my case. More stairs in my future
Hi Bill, QS and all to come!

"Ring the bells that still can ring, Forget your perfect offering, There is a crack in everything, That's how the light gets in" Leonard CohenJanuary 22, 2022 at 8:04 am #1454752Good morning. Another cold morning of 25˚ to start off. I am doing my laundry this morning. Plans are to get some walking in every day once the sun does its magic and warms up the air.
My kimono sweater was warm enough that I did not need to wear a coat in 40˚ weather. It is easier to manage when I am walking in the mall or stores.
JJ, Love your old BBQ/planting center. I have a wood work bench that might end up on the patio one of these days. It would be perfect for potting since I no longer do any woodworking.
Doug, I have resorted to electronic cards. I pay a fee once a year, and I have unlimited video cards that are personalized with celebrations and characters calling out everyone’s names while singing songs.
Mike, Wonderful that you were able to get a second booster shot to protect you. Even people in their prime get tired out wandering medical facilities and large buildings. After dinner, I ended up falling asleep in my recliner after our mall adventure, and I woke up when it was time to go to bed.
Sylvia, Be careful on your trip to the grocery store. The grocery stores here are having to deal with shortages again. No one had iceberg lettuce heads.
QS, I remember when he died. He worked with Dallas’ Dr. Cooper who has a famous health center for training people to jog and exercise. He stated that overexercising is worse than not exercising. He only strives for 5,000 steps a day walking. He no longer jogs and is in his 80s or early 90s now.
Bill, Just turn off the news. There is nothing we can do at this point to change the course of history. Better you concentrate on Janet and Ms. Feral.
Ellen, You are so right about winter days. At least, we have warm days in between the cold spells here.
Uschi, I also rejoice with the days getting longer again.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Nancy
Lynn, We are all anxious for spring to arrive so that we can get out of our houses more. Beautiful path.

Ellen, I think doing things for your own health is a great idea. We need to take care of ourselves so that we can keep on caring for those grandchildren.
Bill, Putin is indeed worrying. I hope he’s just sabre rattling.
Sylvia, I like to hunker down with a well stocked pantry and fridge when the weather turns bad. Why risk going out?
JJ, great re-purposing of the BBQ!
Doug, I’ve just watched Friday’s episode of Watercolour Challenge. I’m enjoying seeing how each artist has adapted to the different scenes. They all have their own style. I wonder if they’re disappointed not to win a Winsor and Newton Artist’s Field Box!

January 22, 2022 at 8:13 am #1454757Hi Nancy, we must have posted at the same time! I use a card service too, it reminds me of upcoming birthdays and I can send direct to their email. If I want I can print one out too, but I usually use my own cards if I want something printed to mail. Good that you had a safe outing I fell asleep last evening too, after my outing, woke up at 8:30 with no supper yet! So then I was up late to let it digest a bit before bed. Fragmented days!
I will look to watch that challenge, QS. I watched the Landscape Artist of the Year, Canada the other day, it was interesting but I wasn’t much impressed with the work. It was interesting though, and they picked the most adventurous two.
Cheers, Lynn
