Good morning all, just woken from a good night’s sleep – around 8 hours!

Shopping this morning, everything is just about ready for the plumbers on Monday.

Good evening Doug.  So glad you had such a great sleep.

The girls came around this afternoon to bring the dog for me to babysit while they went grocery shopping. They came back with chips for a late lunch.

    Such a sweetie.

Birds active today. The juvenile Magpie is really getting black now. For some reason he has a fascination with possum poo. You will see him on my garden cover.

Good afternoon JJ, the Galah’s are a bit foxed by the chips.

    Lovely dog.

They sure were lol.  None of the birds liked the chips, even the pied currawong never came back for seconds.  Iwonder if the possums will eat them.  They were not very nice.

    Good Morning all,

It is 6:30 a.m. here in still sleepy Oakwood. Nice cool temps to enjoy again today. No AC and windows open. :D

Our high school had its first football game of the season last night. We live a half a block away from their football field, so we could hear the crowd cheering and the announcer yelling “Touchdown!” and the band playing their music while the game was going on. It was fun and good to hear them enjoying themselves.

I had a good sleep last night too, Doug. Only got up once and then slept until 6:00 a.m. :D

Cute puppy, JJ, along with your birds.

 to all on their way.

    SYL,

    Sylvia

Good Morning, Doug and JJ.  I also had a good night’s sleep.  We went to the pub early evening though last night’s duo wasn’t as good as the ones we’ve seen recently.  The vocals weren’t brilliant and I do think that when you are performing you should make a bit of an effort with what you wear.  Although they were billed as a duo, they didn’t actually perform together.  They didn’t get the usual audience engagement either, but hey, it’s live music and we don’t pay any extra for it.  The walk there and back did me good.

Once home I cooked the tuna steak that I’d left marinating in soy sauce, orange juice, lemon juice, olive oil, coriander, garlic and black pepper, while my beloved cooked potatoes from the garden and broccoli.  Lemon yoghurt to finish made for another healthy dinner.

Lynn, I watched the young ice dancers, thanks for posting.

Bill, I hope you have no after effects from dealing with the fallen tree, just a sense of achievement.

Char, thanks for telling me about the history of the convent school.  I’m so glad Brittany is working there and using her skill set.  I know you were concerned when she was working in retail, but I admire her for taking a job that paid the bills.

Quite a few people in the UK are complaining that the government is now reducing support for people who lost work during the pandemic – there was an opera singer on the news last night.  But lots of other people have found work, like Brittany did, not in their chosen field but doing something to earn a wage.  Sometimes this makes the news too.  Ray Quinn, a Liverpool lad who is a talented dancer, singer and actor, is now a carpet fitter because theatre work dried up.  Other people are driving vans, working in retail and turning hobbies into businesses.  For many of them the idea of sitting at home doing nothing drives them mad.  Ray will still be talented when stage work returns.

I’m sure lots of actors, artists and artistes had part time jobs long before the pandemic struck.

If only they could retrain as lorry drivers.  It seems we have a shortage of flu vaccine because the lorry driver shortage is delaying deliveries.  Test tubes for blood work are also in short supply.  Amazon, though, are still delivering, probably in smaller vehicles.  Since most of their drivers can’t be bothered to ring the doorbell – how hard can it be? – I’m trying to find alternatives.  I’ve complained many times but it doesn’t change.  They dump the parcel and walk away but mark it as “handed to resident”.

But enough of my wittering on.  Greeting to everyone who posted yesterday and those still to was up today.

        QS

            Good day all,

It seems it was a good night to sleep.  It was for me too.

QS, I never got to the tree.  I was tired yesterday and just showered and laid around the house.  It was hard work but someone’s got to do it.  I make no apologies for being retired.  Years ago our delivery people would give the door a knock but it doesn’t happen anymore.  I’ve installed an alarm at my driveway’s edge to alert me when a vehicle has come in.

Hi Doug, JJ, Sylvia and everyone else who might have some laundry.

            Today I’ll work.  Maybe.

            Bill

                Good Morning!!

I too had a good night’s sleep but then I usually do, I am very lucky.

Another lovely weather day, high of 22C with bright sunshine.

Nothing like changing your mind  I did go to Home Depot, looked at their Laminate flooring and also at carpet and I think I will go with carpet to replace the old carpet upstairs. It just won’t look right to have wood like flooring in the upstairs hallway and the large bedroom but have carpet in the other bedrooms and I am not changing the carpet to Laminate there. I can find a carpet of similar colour and texture at Home Depot.

I saw Laminate I like for downstairs, but I hate getting rid of the carpet when there really isn’t anything wrong with it except needing a good cleaning. So :) I am renting the steam cleaner from Zehrs for the weekend and steam clean that carpet. I have it for two days so I can do it in stages because I am worried about my arm/shoulder.

Son might walk down today, he has been busy with meetings and getting the classroom ready for the kids on Tuesday.

:grouphug: Char :grouphug: I am so sorry you won’t be able to use your tricycle any more, you enjoyed it and worked so hard on it last summer. I have said it many times how, as we age, we let go of something every year but your “letting go” is so unexpected and drastic, yes, very sad

JJ, lovely you had a good time with your girls and that doggie is just too cute. Lovely bird video!!

Doug, is the plumber coming to fix stuff in the existing bathroom or also for the renovation??

Sylvia, only one bathroom visit for me too, usually it is two nowadays :)

QS, you had a lovely day and a great dinner, how good can it get :) All the shortages here, it seems, are due to ships lined up and unable to unload or can’t get the ships to come in the first place because sailors are having Covid.

Bill, the alarm at the beginning of the driveway is such a good idea.

Nancy, I am sorry you are still concerned about your high pulse rate.

 Good sleep here too, and woke early enough to catch our young ice dancers in their free dance, fabulous!!!!!  I have never seen such a good translation from ballet to ice.  They were rewarded with the gold medal :good:

Don’t apologize, Bill, this is our time to do what we want, unless it is an emergency :)   The tree won’t run away.

Glad you liked it, QS!  I have become a bit of a fanatic, I only skated socially when I was young (not a lot to do in a small prairie town) but my DIL was a figure skater and a coach in her early days and my GD skated.  I loved taking her to practice and lesson, and watching their competitions.  She ended up in soccer, good physical training for dealing with two small kids and farm chores :)   Your tuna steak sounds delicious, I have never tried cooking it.

Wonderful to hear the young people being active, Sylvia!  I have missed the playground sounds here, we have a grade school just down the block.  But they will come back soon.

What a sweet looking dog, JJ, a pleasure to you all I’m sure.

I’ll finish watching the skating, ladies now, and then get out my paints and see if I’m fit to take my class this week :)   Groceries come today, as my DD is off to Brock Uni to take her youngest to school tomorrow.  As usual, I forgot to order some things, so I’ll be taking a mid week trip downtown at some point.

                Have a good day, everyone!

                :grouphug:

I was trying to get in before you, Uschi!  I hope you will see the link.  Take care with the carpet cleaner, I know how heavy those things are.  Mine needs doing too, I’ll have to find someone to come in.

                Cheers, Lynn

Doug, is the plumber coming to fix stuff in the existing bathroom or also for the renovation??

They are renovating the upstairs shower room after the shower tray cracked and replacing the fittings in the downstairs toilet. Both are to be tiled.

The driveway alarm is a good idea Bill but would roaming animals set it off?

Pity you have to sell your little car and tricycle Char but it is realistic.

I suggested stean cleaning our lounge carpet Uschi but Ruth would prefer a new carpet.

We have hazy sunshine now 22C and the weather is going to be wet and warm next week.

Hi Lynn, hope you can go to the painting class.

We haven’t watched skating for years.

Doug, deer do occasionally set it off but its rare.  They cross the driveway but don’t walk the length.

I hope Steve is feeling better today.

I saw it Lynn and watched it and they were wonderful!!!! Thank you for the link!!! Is your plain air class this coming week???

Doug, so this is not the big conversion from toilet to shower downstairs. Are you still thinking about that??

                        everyone,

It is supposed to start raining shortly and that will continue on and off daily for the next two weeks. This is our normal fall weather. I can remember the first month of school every year being dark and raining like a signal that summer is over. We will come out of it with bright crisp weather and fall colours. The long rain deeply waters the ground before the long winter freeze I think.

I have today off from babysitting. :) Tomorrow I just babysit at their house for a few hours in the evening while my son and DIL go to visit friends. Maverick starts school for one day on Tuesday, is off Wednesday, then is full time at school. I think it was Uschi who asked why the boys are starting earlier than other areas. It’s because they go to a French Catholic school which is a different school board.

I will have to move our Zoom meeting next weekend ahead by one day to the Saturday instead of the Sunday. I’ll send out the link on Friday. I am babysitting at their house for 3 days starting the Sunday afternoon while my son and DIL go out of town. It’s not too bad. They go to school all day Monday and Tuesday so I can do whatever I want during the day. The big job will be figuring out meals, snacks, and packing lunches. Carbs have to be calculated for all Max’s food (including snacks and food sent to school) and sugars managed. I think one supper will be breakfast for supper because I know what they love for that.

I’m going to zoom with my sister this weekend to catch up on how things are going for them. My BIL is getting slowly worse (terminal lung cancer) and I want to support her as much as I can even if it is just over zoom. We haven’t gotten together since before his diagnosis 9 months ago. She is on immunosuppressants for her rheumatoid arthritis (but has been vaccinated) and he is unvaccinated.

Char – thanks for the explanation of Ted’s condition. I’m sure you will work together to figure out how to deal with the issues life throws at you but lots of hugs to you both. :grouphug: I have joined with Hello Fresh to try out their subscription service but will stop that if I decide I don’t like that one either. When I was signing up I didn’t know they charge $10 delivery a week. I’ll try it for a few weeks and see if it’s worth it.

Uschi – I steam clean my rugs twice a year, in the fall after having the windows open all summer and after the Xmas decorations are down and holiday visitors have left. It’s amazing how black the water is every time. I have my own steam cleaner the size of a vacuum and has an attachment for upholstery. It probably doesn’t do as good a job as the large commercial ones but it is light and I can carry it up and down stairs myself. And having it always in the house I can use it more often if I want.

I’m glad I got the laundry caught up yesterday. I see darker clouds rolling in. I better decide what I’m going to get done today. My main goal is finishing the first draft of the Blurb book. The floors could also use a mopping. Stay safe and enjoy your weekend everyone.
