Hi! thanks for the feedback yesterday on identifying my mystery set of paints. I checked the W&N website and tried to match their charts against this:

But I find it is quite hard to see difference between some of them, especially the various yellows as W&N has so many of them. How many paints can you guys name by just looking at the above image?

Eventually I ended up with this subset although I’m not 100% sure about the identity of a few of the colors (marked with question mark).

Besides testing for opacity, what else can I do to deduce which pigments I have?

 Raining here too, it can stop now! But i think theres more for tomorrow.

Bill, i camped with friends who had the earlier versions of tha van. They loved it, even went to Alaska in it, and i wanted one too. Oh well :)

Sorry your tests were not what you hoped, Uschi :grouphug:

Ellen, we saw, or rather, heard that when camping, we had the 8 am loon, and the 4pm loon, always ran out to see if they were landing on the lake. Sometimes they swam past our campsite, rather as if they were checking up on us!

        An amazing man, Lulu!

Greetings to all, must get busy. :grouphug: :grouphug:

        Cheers, Lynn

Sam….probably only about 2 colours! Blues would have me totally lost as I only use two, cerulean and Paynes Grey…have loads of tubes of Ultramarine,Cobalt and Windsor Blue in my boxes unused.
Yellows are a bit of a mystery to me as I only use them in sunsets and mixing with blue for a green finish…and why are the greens in boxes so awful? Viridian & Hookers, totally unusable for any normal landscape work….at least they are to me!

                Good day again,

                (((((((Uschi)))))))

The camper is too small for extended trips, but for one or two, especially younger adults, it’s great.

Sam, your subset will paint almost anything. Go with your gut.

                I have gallery duty today.

A good Saturday to all….stormy, here today. Severe storms headed in over the river from the west…high winds, heavy rain and lots of lightening. Just across the river they were recording wind gust in the 60-70mph range…….this could get rather interesting and I’m only on my first cup of coffee.

Probably not much planned for today….looking like it’s going to be an inside day. Tried to chill yesterday, but it was just too nice outside….temps in the 80’s, low humidity, nice steady breeze out of the NW. Took an Aleve, did some of the Tai Chi to loosen up and get things semi-working and popped out to the garage…..got the other side (garage side) of the FUBAR corner cleaned up and properly flashed…..now on to the scrapping, trim and fascias. Then I can break out the airless rig and get the outside painted to match the house……task by task, getting it done. Didn’t push myself….took most of the day to accomplish about an hour and a half worth of work. Felt fairly good last night……slept good that’s for sure. Hopefully next week I can get the garden tool shed framed out.

Bill…..I like that VW camper. That would be perfect for mine extended weekend get aways to wet my fly line….certainly would be much easier than hauling the pop up camper, but I’m betting it’s a pretty price to buy. Spent many a week in an earlier VW camper bus model back in the 70’s, either on scuba diving or surfing adventures. My next door neighbor best friend’s parents had one that they never used, so once we got our licenses, we took it over…..when you basically live in surf baggies (swimsuit), flip flops, and surf t-shirts, you don’t need much room or accessories to have a great weekend. Oh the days of our youth.

Sam….welcome to the Wash. Looks like you’re getting organized….me I’m just an unstructured, wing it type of guy when it comes to colors…..anyways, that’s what glazing is for isn’t it……to get the color you want. (Waiting for the response from all you detail, organized, color chart stick in the muds….:wink2: :wink2: :wink2: )……course, I’ve always been the black goat in the herd…..in middle school art class, I got a “D” on an exercise once….we were to try and copy one of a couple of “masterpieces”, I chose the Mona Lisa…..only I did her in monochromatic shades of magenta with a bright chartreuse colored joint in her mouth and a peace symbol necklaces on…..my art teacher was not amused, of course this was 69-70….you know, hippies, pot, make love not war era…..carry on my friend!

Uschi….sorry about the results…….been there, done that….am always apprehensive with results, have had too many surprises over the past 18 years….hang in there dear one, we take one bridge at a time as we come to them.

Geoff….sounds like you’re on the road to mending my friend.

JJ…..any update on your plumbing issues?

Char…..getting back to normal is a good feeling. We want some updated photos….

Well….guess I better post this, as we got our internet connection back. Storms weren’t as bad as they were calling for…at least not in our part of the metro area. Luckily, we’re on the other side of the highest part of the bluff along the river and storms from the SW and W tend to go south or north of us….we got brief burst of winds and heavy rains. Lost power for about an hour (good thing for my power backup box) but the internet cable went out…

Be good, do good……..be different. BBL

Woke up to a tiny rain shower, and we are under a severe weather watch for 24 hours. John woke up, dressed in his jungle outfit, and wanted to cut the lawn. I never saw him get so irritated with the weather. It will be the last time for 6 weeks that he will not be able to cut the lawn.

I need to do my laundry today, I missed it yesterday. Then a run to Home Depot to pick up a few of the supplies I need to get started on the painting prep work for the living room and hallways.

Bill, I love that camper. It is missing the most important thing and indoor bathroom. It is definitely for the younger generation.

Uschi, I wonder if the other parathyroid glands stepped up to replace the missing one and will back off after a while. :crossfingers: The doctor knows what is going on.

Off to get started for the day. to everyone.

Steve…..winging it is the way I have always gone…..I have never done a colour wheel although school when I was about 14 did have us do something similar. Probably the reason I enjoyed acrylics these days is the colour is very much what you see in the tube is what you get on the paper or canvas…no worries about fade or darkening thereafter.

I have a couple of pocket paint sets, probably W&N, which are 30 years plus and,as Doug said, an hour or so to soften the tablet renders something as fresh as a new one.

Weather frequently cloudy but a good working temperature for the remaining gardening/watering…caravan has all my clothes packed, albeit somewhat slowly, the car has all the gas, water and electrical ‘gubbins’ needed for 8 nights….should have been 10 but have to return for eye injections.

Good Afternoon! Our day began very cloudy and breezy, but the rain never came and now the sun is heating up the day and the humidity is making the air heavy.

My only plans for the day are to finish the unpacking. We’re almost there. It’s been an arduous task and I’ll be glad to have it behind us. We’re still discovering more items to be relegated to the thrift store and it actually makes me laugh a little at how much *stuff* we thought we needed. We’re so very lucky to be forced into making these decisions.

And there’s laundry. Every weekend, it rears its ugly head!

Sometime this afternoon, we’ll make a quick run to the Mennonite furniture store. I’d like to find a good potato/onion bin. And Home Depot has a pull out towel rack for under the sink that I want to pick up.

Bill, I’m a glamper and need my amenities! :) That small little VW wouldn’t do… but my dear Aunt, in her 80’s, loved camping with Uncle and dog in their Roadtrek!

JJ, thanks for the update on Carolynn… I hope you told her to peek in here and let us know that she’s ok!

                    ((Ellen))

((Uschi)) I’m so sorry that your levels are still elevated. I hope your surgeon can offer another option besides trying to remove another parathyroid gland. :( I had so many empty jars to wash, the quickest way to deal with them was in the new dishwasher. Day to day, it’s much easier and more efficient to simply wash up our mealtime dishes as always.

Welcome to the Wash, Sam! What fun trying to figure out what colours you have! Your chart is really pretty.

I’m going to get a bite of lunch and then I think we’ll head out the door… Everyone! Have a happy day.

It has been raining

                            I’m over my slump.

I looked at the clock, it was 11:00 a.m. and I thought “I bet that Les is going to drop by in 10 minutes”. I wasn’t washed or dressed yet. So quickly washed, bell rang, I opened in my dressing gown, put on the coffee and told Les to wait while I get dressed.

Then my DIL’s mother dropped in needing help with her knitting so we all had a nice chat, Audrey stayed on for a while longer.

As mentioned, “Open House” at the mini farm was cancelled but son, Ava and I were encouraged to come anyway, so that is what we will do and leave in half an hour.

Thanks for your sympathy, you are such good friends:heart:

Uschi we have stop meeting like this people will talk about you in your nightgown .

I was awake early this morning hearing the rain hitting the air conditioner I couldn’t see the clock as it is on the other side of the room I stumbled along to the bathroom , looked at my watch it was 5am I went back to bed , The next time I looked at my watch it was 8,45 . I got to the bathroom again to get washed put on the light guess what no power . I told SYlvia to get up as it is her day to go to her hairdresser but said we wouldn’t be going anywhere if the power doesn’t come back on as im not walking down 20 flights of stairs us being ten floors up . meanwhile we had cold cereal breakfasts with blueberries . At ten am precisely the power came back on so rushed around rushing as best I can and made it out the door at ten thirty just enough time to get to the other side of the city where he hairdresser resides . It was pouring rain so I figured Uschi wouldn’t be playing table tennis so I headed for her house lo and behold as I walked up her driveway her door opened and she welcomed me in . Uschi told you what happened after that .

Bill lots of gadgets in that VW they certainly thought of everything it is a young persons wagon or suitable for a single person going fishing . Geoff I knew a person who had one at that time but it didn’t have any air condioning I cant imagine travelling Arizona without air conditioning every tie I have been there it has been 100 + .

Can you imagine having a small child taken from you who probably didn’t know their name or too young to answer questions properly stopped and at the border split you up send your child to one place and send the parent to another and no record kept of where they went what kind of a ludicrous person would do that .

                                Les

Steve…a little like yourself, a VW campervan would be ideal just probably a BBQ and all my fishing gear, heaven.

In the days I lived in London ( as did Uschi roughly the same time) You could go down to the American Express HQ in Haymarket on a Saturday morning and there would be 2 or 3 campervans up for sale, usually at £1000 each. These had been bought here by either Kiwi or Aussie tourists and when their trip around Europe was over they took them to where they knew there would be another crowd looking for them, and so it went on! Some of those late 50’s ‘vans would be worth about £15-£18,000 in UK now even as a semi-wreck.

Good afternoon. Got our errands finished. We went to Sams to pick up paper goods that will last us for 3 months.

Then we went to Home Depot. I found some flat mdf pre-primed boards that I will use as baseboards. They are thicker than the fancy boards, but I will not have to add 1/4 rounds on the bottom. That way I do not have to miter corners. The man mixing our paint said a lot of people were doing that these days. Everything, including the wood, came to less than $300.

Since John is going to be laid up for two weeks, I will just do a little each day. I also get the small 6” paint rollers, since they are not as heavy and are easy on the back. The doctor gave me permission to work in small sections a little each day.

Steve and Bill, I can see both of you shaking your heads right now at my choice of baseboards. I have done the other, but have no patience anymore to do all the fancy cuts. I will also be able to predrill the nail holes before I get down on the floor to nail everything in. It will give the house a more modern touch!

Char, We are going to need updated photos of everything in its place! I know that you are happy to get the whole job completed.

June, You are doing amazing. As I have gotten older, I realize that I have to adjust to the different problems that crop up. Like you said, it is amazing that we are still chugging along!

Till later! I have some furniture I have to move out of the way. I will be tackling the first corner on Tuesday, but I want to be able to just get going right away!

                                    Have a great evening everyone!

Still trying to get a plumber to fix my problem. The one who was going to do it is going on holiday on Thursday next week, so wont have time. He could have done it this week but there was a hiccup with the office and they cancelled my order..

Solved the washing problem piped the outlet hose from the machine to the downstairs toilet. Can’t pipe it to the garden, because the back one is too high up and I don’t have a pump, the front ones too far away, pipe was not long enough, and I don’t want to spend money on more grey water pipe that wont be used again.

So, need to find an honest plumber who will not try to extract 5K from me. One thing I am is patient. I can wait.

I am racing out the door, getting picked up for church.

                                        Hi there waterbeds!

It’s cloudy, rainy and dull out there today and more of the same tomorrow and yet AGAIN they are saying Monday will be mostly sunny. :o

Larry and Justin are working both Saturday and Sunday on the afternoon shift so I’m here in my quiet house. I actually am loving it for a change. I cleaned my bathrooms, swept the kitchen and vacuumed the rugs. i have folded and put away two batches of laundry and have another batch in washer.

I’m running the guys their dinner (a pizza at their request) at 7pm. Then I think I’ll stop at a couple of stores and then home to watch a Hallmark movie. I don’t usually get to watch them so will take advantage.

Larry and I ware watching The Crown on Netflix and last night we watched three episodes. We are in season two, I’m loving it and he finds it very good too. I’m fascinated by Britain’s Royal Family.

I was watching art videos on YouTube last night and am trying to stay was form watching more today; I can sit for hours watching them. :D

Enjoy your day everyone! I miss Carolynn’s visits too. LuLu, awesome man! Bill, that wouldn’t be the right camper for me.(((Uschi))) , Char  ((June)), Les, I HATE losing power.
