Sorry to hear you’re so poorly Sharon. Benylin is my go to medicine for a cough. I hope you feel better soon.
In all these things we are more than conquerors.
February 19, 2022 at 6:04 am #1458935everyone,
Its overcast and -20. We are expecting snow all day tomorrow. At least I can have a leisurely morning. I don’t have to drive the boys for 3 days. Monday is a holiday (Family Day) and they will be busy this weekend. There is a winter carnival with fireworks.
The Omicron 2 variant has been around almost as long as Omicron 1. It is a little more contagious and will eventually become the dominant strain but not taking over as quickly as they initially thought probably due to the herd immunity in the UK where it has already become a large part of the daily infections. It doesn’t seem to cause any more severe illness from what I have found. It was not mutated from Omicron 1 but arose from a common source with Omicron 1. I’m still looking for research on whether having Omicron 1 gives any protection against 2. There doesn’t appear to be any concern about 2 among specialists and mandates are still being lifted.
Lulu – police here are working hard to break up the same type of protesters here. They are saying that it is extremists who want to destabilize governments that are organizing people who don’t want vaccine mandates and using them (as well as directing them and funding them). Once they get settled into an area it takes extreme measures to break them up without violence which would just get others to sympathize with them. The government has to follow the money and shut down the flow, deal with organizers set up in different locations, and protect major infrastructure from interference. All the while trying to peacefully move thousands of people who see it as a giant party and protest.
Adena – only one more day at your old job. You can count down the hours.
I’m going to look at the news and see how the police are doing against the occupation in our capital. Fascinating watching their tactics. Some of the protesters are military people or ex police and despite knowing what the police will do the tactics are working. They made a 4 sq km area blocking off more than 100 entrances/roads. No vehicles are allowed in. They do allow any vehicle that wants to leave to go. The police formed a line across whole areas and are just walking VERY slowly forward. They never retreat and won’t stop 24 hours a day. They are pushing protesters back without any violence. If a protester pushes, hits, or tries to grab their weapons, they are pulled through the police line and arrested. If anyone is in a vehicle they are removed, the vehicle searched for weapons or traps by a special force, and the line moves past. Three of the 5 leaders have been arrested as of last night, the banks have frozen bank accounts of millions in funding sources (including those of people donating to them). People are still allowed in and out of the area but the police have said anyone not leaving will be arrested. Some of the protesters brought their children and are saying the police won’t do anything against them. The police have warned them to have arrangements made for who will take the kids when the parents are arrested. There are children’s aid reps on hand. Fascinating.

February 19, 2022 at 6:23 am #1458936Good Morning!!
Still cold, a high of -8C, and bright sunshine. We had some more snow over night, I can’t tell how much, maybe an inch or so.
Well, it’s Saturday and laundry day and strike another week of the calender to get closer to spring day. Should I, should I not, asking myself that about son coming down to visit.
I saw the horrible wind in Britain on the news last night. So glad that none of our friends here had any damage. We haven’t heard from Mike yet.
Doug, Ruth must have been glad she stayed home.
Lulu, which Wordle game do you play because you mention # 245, the one I play, The New York Times one, doesn’t give a number. I hope your hospitals don’t get overloaded with the Omicron. Are those plums from trees you have planted since you moved to your now home, if so, how did they grow so quickly and they look wonderful!! I love those big juicy ones too. The Mammogram machine doesn’t look very appealing nor does having to crawl onto it LOL They’ll probably end up making it so people stand next to it and then are tipped.
Bill, sorry about your failed plum tree.
Joy, LOL about things heading south.
Doug, does your Wordle have a number???
JJ, it was a lovely full day for you and the 12 year old’s did a great job. It would be nice if Tania could buy her own house. Do you have a shortage of houses for sale???? Virtual bra fitting ????? I also saw the article about the BA.2, not encouraging LOL
QS, looking after 4 little ones is easier than looking after one, they can entertain each other but your house will need work and you will be worn out after that stint LOL
Sylvia, both of us are good sleepers and yet I too had a bit of a restless sleep. How does Larry like his news exercise program?? Is he walking with the cane yet???
Sharon, off and on you have been unwell for quite a while, I hope you went to the doctor and are being looked after (((())))

February 19, 2022 at 6:32 am #1458937Do you have a shortage of houses for sale????
No, but it is hard to buy a house under one million dollars now.
Good night everyone, have the best possible day..

My Youtube videosFebruary 19, 2022 at 6:32 am #1458938Ellen, I enjoyed reading your post …….. and then there is the media who, of course, have to focus and video tape the few who fight arrest and are struggling on the floor. Makes the whole thing look no different than in any other city LOL

February 19, 2022 at 7:10 am #1458941Lovely day out there, hope some of the ice will melt. Have just watched the pairs skating, Uschi, it has it’s up and downs, but be sure to watch to the end, the best are just wonderful!
Kay, love the cookies! With all the oatmeal, I managed to convince myself that they were good for breakfast LOL Half are in the freezer which will slow me down accessing them.
Belated Birthday Greetings, Adena!! I hope today is OK for you
A busy day indeed, JJ. The girls did well. My son’s gospel church has similar events and it draws the community together in a sustaining way, it means a lot in their lives.
Thanks, Ellen, it has been overwhelming to watch. But I did catch a glimpse of the Ottawa operation, so orderly on the police’s part, that was reassuring to see. I hope you do get some painting done
I had a good laugh, Joy, ‘gone south’ indeed! Glad your weather over there has calmed down.
(((((Sharon))))
I should be making bread too, QS, am finding all the commercial brands too ‘mushy’. I can’t handle the sourdough (too acid) but the Italian buns I was making were fine. Good luck with your mob tomorrow
Lovely plums, Lulu. We don’t see them here in the supermarkets often, and I don’t get to the farmer’s market now. Must try harder next summer.
Hi Doug, Bill, Sylvia and all to come!
Cheers, Lynn

February 19, 2022 at 7:29 am #1458947Good morning, we are looking forward to a few nice days, and then the bottom falling out with the next cold front on Wednesday. They are coming almost like clockwork!
The new mini room is coming together nicely. I will not be able to work on it until later this afternoon when we get back from John’s luncheon with his high school classmates. It was postponed two weeks in a row, once for ice and the second time for a funeral of a classmate who died from covid.
Ellen, Thank you for providing the scientific updates regarding Covid in plain English! I always look forward to your updates on the newest findings. Even in retirement, your medical background is helping us Washers wade through the rumors. I believe I read that some of our far-right wing oligarchs have been funding the movement in Canada. Fascinating how your police are handling the protestors. I sure wish our police used similar tactics.
QS, Have fun with the little ones coming to spend time with you. Enjoy and treasure every little laugh and hug!
Hi to everyone.

"Imagination is more important than knowledge."- EinsteinFebruary 19, 2022 at 8:19 am #1458949Well, we had a little snow this morning but it didn’t lie. It is now 5F and sunny.
No, Wordle doesn’t have a number 2 – 4 – 5 means Lulu got two letters on the first line, then four then all five. I have just done today’s and got 2,4 5 too.
Just watch the pair skating and now watching the curling final between Sweden and GB.
I hope they can clear the protestors in Ottawa and arrest the ringleaders.

We must leave our mark on this worldFebruary 19, 2022 at 8:53 am #1458951“How does Larry like his news exercise program?? Is he walking with the cane yet???”
He only had the one meeting with the new PT guru for assessment of where he was healthwise. I think she was pretty pleased. She gave him a couple new exercises which he’s added to his routine already. She told him she didn’t think he needed the walker any more but keep using it until she sees how he does with the cane. I have it in the car so we won’t forget to bring it on Monday which is his next visit.
Lynn, I hope the chemo treatments aren’t too tough on you. I vaguely remember being tired all the time during my radiation and chemo treatments. It’s been over 10 years now, so obviously they worked. Hope yours are as successful.
Ellen, Ditto to what Nancy said about your explanations re Covid and variants. You make it easy to understand.
Like Uschi, we tape the Olympics because we are only interested in the skating events. Was so sorry about the fiasco that was the Women’s events. Looking forward to seeing the ice dancing whenever they get around to showing it.
Sharon, Hope you get over whatever is making you feel so ill soon. Gentle {{{hugs}}}.
to all again,

Sylvia
February 19, 2022 at 9:26 am #1458954Good Morning! It’s bright, sunny, breezy and cold. Morning chores are done and I’m waiting for my PSW to arrive. She”s very late… typical Saturday.
We”ve been watching the Protesters in Ottawa and proud of the way Police are handling the situation. It’s sure volatile. I suspect there are some who’d have liked to see it degrade to violence.
Typing is challenging today. I’ve read the Wash and smiled and nodded in agreement, friendship and humour. You guys are great.
I’m off to Wordle. Got it in 4. #145 (????)

February 19, 2022 at 9:43 am #1458959This is a test of speech to text in windows 11 I think you could use this char if you can’t manage to type, it seems to work fine on my computer. Go to settings access accessibility another way is to press windows +H and then your speech will be typed out for you it seems to be very accurate so long as there is no background noise so I had trouble before because the television was on I think it could solve your problem char I haven’t corrected this text I’m just leaving it as I spoke so it misses some capitals et cetera and you can see his spirit split the word et cetera into 2 but you can go back and edit it manually if you wish.
Looks useful Char, give it a try. I typed the last sentence.

We must leave our mark on this worldFebruary 19, 2022 at 9:44 am #1458960A good Saturday to all…….sunny here this morning, 37° when I got up. Now it’s 41° and we’ll hit the mid to upper 50’s. Mid 60’s tomorrow, then a week of on/off rain. Whatever we’re going to do we’ve got to do it today or tomorrow.
Found all my 1x lumber and trim yesterday…….expensive. All total it came to close to $450…..and it wasn’t all that much material, 11-8′ boards and 30 sticks of 8′ trim, 200% more costly than what I paid for similar materials pre-Covid. It’s crazy, I think some manufacturers are using “Covid” as an excuse to scalp buyers while they can. Told Lisa we won’t be doing anymore “big” projects till prices get more reasonable. Funny incident while checking out at Lowes. I had my mask on, as did the young African American checking me out, when the young man waiting next in line muttered (loudly) to his much older helper with him that he was “so damned tired of all these “P***IES wearing mask”. The young girl stopped scanning my lumber and I just turned and stared at him. Now this kid couldn’t have weighed a buck fifty soaking wet in a wool over coat and for a full minute I just stared at him……all 6′, 270 lbs of me. The older helper of his said to him, “I think you need to keep your GD thoughts to yourself, he’s (pointing at me) likely to kick your ass and not even break a sweat.” There was another minute of silence as I continued to stare at him. The young lady finally broke the silence with my total amount. “Cash or card”? “Card”, I replied, turning sideways to the young man who was visibly apprehensive about the next few moments. As I was walking out I heard the young lady tell the kid, “I’m sure you don’t want some black, mask wearing P**** checking you out. I’m going on break. Jamal, can you check this young man out?” Jamal looked to be about 6′-8″, 270 – 280 lbs, with about 2% body fat as he walked over from the “Pro Desk”……..with a mask on. Didn’t hear a peep from the young man…….I was fighting to keep from laughing out loud under my mask. Made my morning after my sticker shock to the total.
Bill……I’m with you. Don’t care what the “experts” are saying, I’m keeping my distance, avoiding crowds, don’t eat out (do take out), wearing my mask and still disinfecting my hands in the truck after touching anything in public……..but then I’m quite content being a “loner”. This crap is still out there. It’s not really an “if”, but “when” the next wave or variant breaks out.
Time to get my morning moving forward…….Greetings to all here, hugs for those not feeling well or slammed by the “weather”, or stuck in the snow…….and to those that come. Have a great day, evening or night. BBL
Be good, do good…….STAY SAFE!
Steve.

February 19, 2022 at 9:51 am #1458961Good for you Steve bet he didn’t can the new checkout man a p***yn
You will be pleased to see the end of this job I’m sure.
Doug
We must leave our mark on this worldFebruary 19, 2022 at 10:28 am #1458965Steve, you’re that girl’s hero! I wanted to build a large shed this summer, but the cost of lumber might prohibit that.
