Good morning all, a fine cold morning, the sun is streaming through the curtains. I think it froze overnight.

Thinking how I will cope after my next cataract operation and until I get new spectacles. I have ordered a supermarket delivery for 2nd April. I’ll top up the pantry next Wednesday, the operation is on Thursday.

I’ll have to get volunteers to run Board games and art class if I can’t drive.

My good friend has offered to give me lifts if I need them and there are taxis.

Good morning, Doug.  Sounds like you are well prepared for this second cataract operation.   My beloved once told me it would be cheaper to take taxis than run a car.  ES, who doesn’t drive, uses Uber, trains, buses, and Shanks’ Pony.  He had lessons when he was 17, passed the theory test no bother, and then must have had a falling out, or bad experience with his instructor, because he cancelled his driving test and has managed without a car ever since.

I love having a car, but I also love my bus pass, which round here works on the trains and the ferry as well.

My beloved is running Toddlers for Dads today, so I will paint.  I might practice some more sumi-e brush strokes, or I might just splash some paint around.

        Greetings to All.

Good morning Doug and all to come,

It froze over night here too.  Rain later.

You’re like me, Doug, I had to arrange for drivers too.  When I had one eye done in Ann Arbor, a Jewish volunteer association drove me for free, though, afterwards I gave a donation, they are a fine organization.  And for this last eye a friend drove me early in the morning.

QS, not sure about your beloved’s calculation re transportation.  Living in a rural area makes a car an absolute necessity here.

I just put sourdough in the fridge to rise and I’ll bake it sometime later today.  Baking bread will fill the house with a cozy aroma.

                    Evening all….

All the best for your surgery Doug. Glad you’ve got transport. My 2nd surgery was a breeze post op, not so the first.

QS, my phone turns to monotone at 10 pm so that’s how I viewed your new painting on fb. It does look good but I will look at it tomorrow in colour and comment then. I look forward to seeing what you paint each day.

I enjoy public transport too but i still need a car. When John was in hospital I used the buses a lot, was so good not to have to think, not to worry about parking…. and over 65’s get 24/7 free transport within each region.

Had to replace my electric jug (kettle) today. Just suddenly stopped working. Was still under warranty so took it back to the store, got a refund and promptly bought another, better brand. 2 years warranty. Pays to keep the sales receipt!

Off to bed. Another busy day tomorrow, we have a main street festival on. Always fun, love the entertainment.

                    Good night :bye:

                    Good evening all.

We had to vote today for local elections.  We waited until this afternoon so the crowds would be  gone.  Afterwards we had an impromptu dinner with Tania at her local fish and chip shop.  it was wonderful.

Good luck getting everything organised for your op Doug.

Q.S. I love having a car too.  My independence. :-)   Your postcards are generating lots of interest.

Mmmmmmm, I can just imagine how yummy your house smells.

                    Good night Lulu.

Bill, we live less than 10 minutes walk from the train station and the bus stops, so we’re well served by public transport, but like JJ, I enjoy the independence the car brings.

JJ, I can hardly believe the amount of interest the postcards are generating.  They are all friends, but quite a few didn’t realise, or had forgotten, I could paint.  It’s cheering a lot of people up during the grey days we’ve been having here.  Today, at least, it was bright and sunny first thing, though it’s clouding over now.

Good morning JJ, Lulu, Bill, QS,  You have a Disney garden, such colourful birds.

Fingers crossed I’ll be able to drive Lulu.

Your daily paintings are lovely QS.

I’m thankful that I have friends who will give me a lift if needed Bill.

Just spent half an hour in the garden, deadheading the Hydrangea and de-weeding the pots. One apple tree is budding well, the other two trees are very late.

Going to a talk at the Springfield tonight on stately homes given by an eminent historian.

                        :bye: everyone,

Grey and going to have a rain/snow mix for 24 hours. I tried to get some Xmas lights down yesterday but couldn’t find the extendable pole we use. I tried getting some of the projectors out of the snow but the wires were frozen in ice. So I didn’t accomplish much outside. I did get the floors vacuumed and washed and supper made. Ash called to catch up and he might be able to make it up between terms for a visit. He has decided that since his hours have decreased for next term he is going to take advantage of a perk of working for a college and get a degree and then work towards his masters with no cost to him. He is dating someone for the last few weeks and taking it slowly but so far he thinks it is going well. He is officially divorced now but cautious when dating.

Today I’m going to be picking up Max to stay overnight again. He wasn’t able to go to the cottage with the other boys the last few days so he asked to spend time here. He is on antibiotics and not contagious. My throat is a little scratchy this morning so I’ll have to see if it turns into anything.

I haven’t looked at the news so far today so that’s next. Sorry to hear about the damage from the tornadoes. Weather is going to continue to get more extreme.

Have the best day possible everyone.

                            Good Morning!!!

The forecast is for dull, maybe a bit or rain and a high of 10C.

Well, it’s Saturday, means laundry day and Juergen will walk down for our coffee klatsch. He and Ava drove to the university in Peterborough for a tour yesterday, so will be interesting to see what they thought.

I will have to phone him and tell him to come a bit later because my table tennis partner Dorothy is having a birthday party at noon. She rented a room for it at the Senior Center. She is 90!!!! We were a great pair for playing doubles and won a lot of games.

In anticipation of my painting session with Jeanette the other day I wanted to re fill my almost empty palette only to find out that a lot of the colours had dried out in the tube. Luckily it is watercolour so I cut the tubes open and pried the dry colour lumps out. I realized just how many colours I was using that really were unnecessary and how many times I gave in to paint suggestions that I never used again    :-)

Doug, looks like spring has sprung at your place!!! Glad you are all set for the surgery and I am sure all will go perfectly. I remember Audrey drove me for my surgeries and the next day I was driving myself again.
Sounds like an interesting talk, does that mean dinner along with the talk??? :-)

QS, I couldn’t help myself and had to check Facebook to see what you came up with for today and what a fun, I think it’s call whimsical, approach to this latest card, love it!!

As to going car less, difficult here in North America, places are far apart and our buses and train services are dismal in comparison to Europe. My car is my wings and lets me be spontaneous. Also taxis cost a lot. The first time I went to have my eyes dilated I took a taxi and it cost me $ 25 there and another $ 25 back. After that I am leaning on my friends for rides there and back :-)

                            Bill, happy baking!!!

Lulu, your kettle dying on you was lucky since you got a bigger and better version :-)

JJ, impromptu dinners are the best!!! Beautiful photo!!

I was expecting all sorts of new messages and there are NONE ???

Well that was fun!!! I am talking about my table tennis partner’s birthday bash. Out of about 65 players when I was still playing about 5 are still playing and about 5 that aren’t playing any more turned up. Also good to see that I am not the only one aging :-)Was wonderful to chat with them. The club is going well, they now have 80 regulars :good:

                                Juergen will arrive soon.

Ellen, glad Max is doing well and is no longer contagious. So nice that he wants to be at your place. Smiling about you being so anxious to get the Xmas light off :-)
