Well the last day of 2021 is almost over here in Brisbanetown. Only 8 hours to go.

Our plans have changed, thankfully.  We are going to Tanias house for an hour or so this evening, instead of the Lookout.  I am relieved.  Tania and I did do lunch at Tarrigindi Thai, the place was empty.

    Stay safe everyone. :grouphug:

    Much love.

Good evening JJ. If Mt Coot-tha is like us it will be shrouded in fog … so good move.

        Still raining here.

In exploitation of the time of year, resolutions and all those empty promises to the self, I have a spring clean cleaner coming next week. Lots of work before they arrive so that they don’t think I’m a slob. TomTom is coming with his chainsaw and brush cutter next week too.  Been too wet to do the vitG. Weeds … you don’t know weeds.

The dryer has died. The washing line has been assaulted by trees. I have piles everywhere.

As for 2021, only a small margin better than 2020. But for 2022, Hope.

        :bye:

        Good morning all.

Everything in your garden seems so virulent JJ. I’m glad you are keeping safe.

Hi Annie, glad to hear you are getting help. Our washer also dries and so the clothes are finished off on an airing rack.

Murky but remarkably warm for this time of year, I hope we don’t have record summer temperatures, I can’t stand the heat.

Staying in tonight as we did last year.

        Doug

Hi JJ and Annie!  Happy New Year (and hopefully) a much better 2022.  We still have to get through New Year’s Eve yet.  Going to rain here, both for today and tonight.

They are limiting the crowd in Time’s Square for the ball drop.  Only 15,000 allowed. SMH.  Two of the musical acts have cancelled so far.  Covid positive.

            JJ gorgeous garden.

Annie I’m sorry your dryer died.  Bummer.

            Hi Doris! :bye: :bye:

Hello to everyone on the way.  Will try to get back here later.  Big :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:  to all in need, and those not in need.  At this point there is no one not in need, I guess.

Hi All, wet and murky here.   We have no plans for a party to see the New Year in.   We will have a couple of neighbours in for a meal tomorrow and that will be celebration enough.   There will be a lot more sick folk after the partying is done.

Beautiful flowers as always, JJ.   The orchid is glorious.  Glad you are taking the sensible option tonight.

So sorry your drier died on you Annie.   Is that an excuse to hit the Boxing Day/New Year Sales (preferably online).

Yes Kay, :crossfingers:   for a much better Happy and Healthy New Year in 2022,   :grouphug:  Back at ‘ya.

Have a good and a safe one, everyone.

Good Morning JJ, Annie, Doug and Kay.

                    Beautiful orchid, JJ.

Annie, annoying about the dryer, especially with the rain.  Mine’s been working overtime lately.  Because we hadn’t had people to stay for almost 2 years I re-washed all the clean bedding from the airing cupboard before I made up the beds for our visitors, just to freshen it up.  Now I’m slowly working my way through the bedding and towels after their visit.

Hi Kay, we don’t often see you at this end of the Wash.  Happy Hogmanay.

I’m feeling a bit sad this morning as I looked in on The Watercolour Log, the blog of Peter Ward, a former Wet Canvas member.  Unusually, he hadn’t posted since September and when I checked the comments on his last post I learned that he had passed away in November.  Peter introduced me to a world of watercolourists the likes of which I’d never seen before and I’m glad I took the chance to thank him.  Hap used to comment occasionally, but the blog didn’t get a lot of comments.  I suspect it reached a wider audience than Peter realised.

I watched The Great British Sewing Bee last night, kind of by accident – it came on and I found myself interested enough to keep watching.  It was a celebrity festive edition and I rather enjoyed it.

In my mother’s day, Hogmanay would have been spent baking and cleaning the house in anticipation of first footers.  We used to go out or host a party but it will be a quiet New Year for us this year.  We’ll probably open a bottle of Prosecco and have some nibbles while watching tv.

If Junior DIL is feeling up to it we may have them over to lunch tomorrow.  She was feeling rough after her jab yesterday but some of that may be stress.

Lulu has suggested we all go to a party at Joy’s but it’s a bit far to travel   .  Joy, I loved the doiley.  I used to make lots of those.

                        Good evening all….

                        Yes, watch out Joy

Oh the childhood memories of NYE, going out as a family and singing Old Man’s Eye as the clock struck 12….

Student Nursing days…. John flew south to be with me and my friends…singing the Seeker’s songs around the town clock….

Add your own memories. We can’t go out partying but let’s make our Wash a party of NYE best memories…

                        B-)

Happy New Year Lulu, JJ and all in the antipodes.

We used to gather for New Year a group of a dozen Probus friends but sadly most have died off over the years.

Good morning /evening one and all.
Well, 2021 has been a pretty poor year. Perhaps you folks down in Australia/NZ could let us know how 2022 starts. Hope it is good but if not please let us know pronto and we will stop the globe turning until things settle down a bit.?

Here we are ending 2021 on a very mild and wet note. Like Doug, I hope we don’t get a scorching summer. These days you never can be sure what to expect. Two years ago on the very last day of February Ann and I enjoyed an alfresco lunch in sunshine and almost summer warmth.

Lovely orchid JJ. We have two flowering – but in the warmth of the kitchen!

Annie – sorry about your drier; they have a built in design feature that ensures they pack up at the most inconvenient time.

We shall hunker down this evening and not go gallivanting. Too much Covid around. Just heard one of my old bell ringing friends has caught it. Not good. She feels pretty rough.

So take care Washers. Wishing you all a happy New Year

                        Mike

Hi Mike, the new year starts in one hour here….I will be fast asleep!

Doug, what about memories from your younger years?

Lulu, I have a very happy memory.  As the bells rang to ring in the New Year 50 years ago tonight, Mr QS and I became engaged, to my mother’s shock and delight (he’d already asked my dad for my hand and Dad had managed 5o keep it a secret).  We were a couple of teenagers, but that wasn’t unusual back then.

                                Sleep well Lulu.

I remember barbecuing some 40 years ago in freezing cold on New Years Eve with friends we had met the previous year on a very wet campsite in France.

A chance meeting turn into a long-standing friendship. Thick coats and an inexhaustible supply of mulled wine kept us warm on that New Years Eve. A very happy memory.

                                    Good day all,

I have no New Year’s Eve memories.  Rarely stayed up for the end of the year.

I’ll make a quick rush into town for some essentials this morning as we are expecting to be snowed in for a couple of days with possibly ten inches of snow tomorrow.  That’s how 2022 begins here.

Change of plans again. :)   The girls bought Chinese food and came to me.  I was still full from lunch so just had friend rice.  We played several games of Uno all winning at least one hand. :)   It is 8.44pm and they have just left.  Tania is getting up at 5.00am to go on a Parkrun in the country. She can have it. lol.

I do love that Cooktown Orchid, Cooktown is a place up the northern part of tropical Australia.

I am watching the New Years Eve Concert on channel 9.

Annie and Doug, I am so relieved we stayed home.  Darn your dryer died.  I have a pulley clothes line on my patio. It is big enough for my sheets even, but I seldom use it anymore, because the lines are always covered in black stuff. City living.

I hope you don’t have too hot a summer too Doug.

Kay 15,000 is too many.  So many people will die in the early part of 2022.

Joy sorry your weather is miserable, it is wet and murky here too, but I love it.

QS how sad Peter Ward had died.  I did enjoy his artwork too.  My Elise gets her second vaccination on Sunday.

Mike  2022 will start with a shower of rain.  Sunday is supposed to be bringing a cyclone to Brisbane.

Take care Bill, stay safe on your journey to the grocery store.

I can hear the 9.00pm fireworks going off. Can’t see them though, will have to go look out the front window.
