Who believes in the superstitions of Friday the 13th?

For me it is a very good day indeed. :)

Good morning all, good evening JJ.

Well, I’m worried out our future holiday plans. So far our coach holiday in two weeks time is still on. I’m thinking of cancelling.

We are both OK for now.

Well, I’m up and showered, it’s a lovely morning, 6C going up to 10C/50F. My nose is much better now, the pain has virtually gone and the swelling is going down, so I’ll be playing snooker this afternoon. I’ll fill up the car on the way home.

        Good evening all.

Another day closer to footloose liberation. :)

JJ it’s just another date. No one gets upset about Monday 13th. Or Tuesday etc etc.

On the other hand there is a black cat on my wheelchair again

Hi Annie, black cats are supposed to be lucky aren’t they? :)

Won’t be long before you re unloading the washer again :)

Ohhh, thank you SO much Doug

Black cats are lucky. Lucky she came home with us from RSPCA, we who let her grow up to be who she wants to be. just wish she would let me on the wheelchair. Not urgent yet.

            Good Morning all,
It is 6:15 a.m. here in dark Oakwood…bird working hard outside trying to wake up Dawn!

Good day yesterday working with Nita to proofread the publisher’s version of her book. We aren’t doing any editing, just looking for mistakes (like an extra space after a word before the period, wrong page number in the contents page, etc.).
Will work on pages at home today and get together with her tomorrow.

Funny thing happened last night, thinking of the superstition of Friday the 13th. Larry went to the little window in our door and flipped on the porch light for some reason and said there was a black cat sitting on the porch. We don’t have a black cat! It ran off when the light came on. :D

Annie, hope you managed to commandeer the wheelchair from your resident black cat. Glad things are progressing smoothly with your bones healing.

Doug, Things around here have begun to reach a fever pitch of panic with fights breaking out at Costco and long, long lines at the grocery store. I just got notice this morning that Rec West, the place where my painting classes are held will be closed for the next three weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if your trip were cancelled. Might be a good idea for you to cancel if they don’t.

 to JJ and all who are on their way.

            SYL,

            Sylvia

Hi Sylvia, Nita’s book will be very interesting.

Here’s an excellent question and answer session with Dr Fauci on the virus and infectivity.

Doug, presumably if you cancel you won’t now get your money back. If that’s the case I’d wait until the last minute to cancel, because if they do it then you should get a refund.

I was happily hoping that the virus would all be over by May and we’d be able to go to Crete. Now I’m not so sure so we’ll wait and see for now.

JJ, I’m not at all superstitious. I always thought that if the number 13 was unlucky for some, then it must be lucky for others :) .

Annie, “What a feelin, Bein’s believing, I can have it all now I’m dancing …..”

Sylvia, how fabulous to be proof reading for Nita, especially as you have the skill set. I’m glad I started restocking my larder when we got back from our holiday. Adding a couple of extra items each time means we don’t need to panic now.

I thought the words from our Chief Medical Officer and Chief Scientific Officer last night we’re very sensible and measured. If they close schools and childcare facilities guess who’ll be looking after the children. Yep, grandparents, the age group most at risk. Fortunately for us one son is a teacher and I think the other could work from home. My third son is already preparing to work at home.

Boris Johnson has come in for a lot of flack for not cancelling large gatherings, but people have the option to stay away. It’s as if some people need a nanny state. If everyone with even mild symptoms stays at home that will be a huge help.

I may stay away from church. Our church once organised a weekend away where someone turned up with a huge box of tissues and proceeded to sneeze his way through the weekend. He had a really bad cold and managed to infect most of those he came into contact with. Fortunately we weren’t there, but it’s not the first church event where obviously unwell people have turned up. It may only be a common cold for them but for me it often turns into a chest infection.

I must get on so greetings to those who wash up later.

                QS

In all these things we are more than conquerors.

                    Good day all,

A windy day here. Not me but the real wind.

Annie, nice of you to share the chair, but we know it was actually commanded.

Sylvia, you must be reading an interesting life while punctuating Nita’s work. A way to pay her back for the sharing she has done for you.

Doug, an informative video. I watched Dr. Fauci speak this morning on tv. He is also a good example of good health at 79 years of age. He’s also very diplomatic when it comes to discussing the president’s decisions.

JJ, no superstitions here, but I’m not going anywhere today. :)

                    QS, enjoy your grandchildren. :)

Michigan has closed all it’s schools till April 6th. I believe they’ll have Easter vacation after that.

I think its best to just hunker down for the next six to eight weeks with just minimal shopping if necessary.

                    Going back for a nap.

                        Good Morning!!

4C right now, temperature will be falling during the day and high wind which will be cold.

I slept in again and I’ll be spending my time doing last minute perspective homework for the sketching course this afternoon.

Everyone loved the lemon squares I offered at scrabble yesterday.

Sharon, one way or the other your back is not being nice to you, so sorry you are in pain:grouphug:

Char, great information, love hearing about all you are learning and sharing with us and yes, our bodies are miracles, I have said it for years.

Nancy, so glad you haven’t checked out all together.

As Char said yesterday, schools are closed for the next three weeks, since our sketching course is held in a room in a school (adult continuing education) I wonder if it will be cancelled too.

My DIL’s parents who are over wintering in Florida have decided to come back early, they don’t want to get stuck down there or be sick down there.

I need to get breakfasted, showered and dressed and sketching so I will make this short and enthusiastically  to everyone:)

                        #959909

Good Morning Washers! It rained during the night and the wind has come up blowing like crazy. We’re looking for a little sunshine today.

We have to be in town this morning for Ted’s Dr. appointment. Then, home so I can attend my Class. There are a few things I need at the grocery store and I’m really reticent about shopping.

JJ, there’s no superstition here and our resident black cat is a snuggle bunny. :) He was born right on our back porch 14 years ago. Here he is with his 3 siblings and two Moms!

Doug, the cancellations are happening more and more quickly. In all likelihood, your trip will get the axe.

 for dancin’ in the street, Annie! Or getting back to your housework. *smirk*

Sylvia, I’m not surprised that your art Classes were cancelled. Most of your Group are likely Seniors and seem to be the most susceptible to this virus.

Doug, that video was from a live stream on FB last night. My friend invited me to watch it, but after a few minutes I turned it off.

QS, I agree with you that people must make up their own minds as to what they’ll attend or not. But, then… there’s Italy. :(

Bill, Dr. Fauci is in a difficult position with regards to what the Administration has said and what’s actually true.

Uschi, as I mentioned to Sylvia, it’s conceivable that your Classes may be cancelled also. I’ve been thinking that my own Groups may begin to feel uncomfortable… I’ve already had this conversation with one of them. I told her that if she was worried, she definitely needed to stay away.

I’d better get a move on. We have to be out the door shortly.

 All yet to come and our Lurkers. Enjoy a happy, healthy and creative day! :grouphug:

A good Friday to all……we had a front come through last night with rain and thunderstorms…..made for good sleeping, so it’s cooler this morning, but this weekend is supposed to be nice 60’s with scattered rain. I’ll take it….(like I have a choice).

Had my consultation with the Neurologist yesterday…..all looks good. Good for another 50,000 miles I guess. The only thing he really saw was scarring from the previous craniotomy site…..nothing that would cause the suspected TIA last month. He did say he was pleasantly surprised with my blood vessel network, that the arteries in my neck were those of someone in their mid 20’s and that the network throughout my brain was in excellent condition for someone in their mid 60’s. He thinks the TIA like episode was more of migraine and if there are any more like events will refer me to a general Neurologist to treat for migraine. MRIs good, EEG good…..I’m happy.

Friday the 13th is a good day in my thinking…..it’s the day 22 years ago that my wife said yes to an impromptu wild idea about getting married. When you know, you know………

Must feed cats, take meds, eat my breakfast and get moving……..Greetings to all here and those to come. May your Friday be a great one. BBL

                        Be good, do good…
                        Steve.

Pain and heartaches aren't options in life........misery is a choice.

 Sun and chilly wind here, I can feel it curling around my ankles….don’t mind the fresh air though :) It is a rather drafty window I work at, but I love the light.

Just had an interesting Friday 13 experience, watching the Government of Canada close parliament in a unanimous decision of all parties. I was proud of their ability to put division aside and do the necessary thing. Our prime minister’s wife has the virus, I hope a mild case, but it brings it home to us all. He is working from home. But they managed to squeak in approval of the Free Trade agreement, and various financial measures for relief, so that is good. We are indeed living in interesting times

Schools closed means my cleaning lady won’t be back for at least 4 weeks, she looks after her grandkids. Will just have to motivate myself to get this spring cleaning going. At the moment I have discarded photos, proofs, test strips and prints from old shows all over my bedroom floor, time to get rid of stuff I won’t use. I have to try to resist the desire to travel down memory lane, and be ruthless

Yes Uschi, I think your class will be cancelled. We are waiting to see if our senior center is also closed, at the moment it is “use your discretion”. I’m glad we had a good Folk dance session yesterday, something to remember. I will try some at home to keep in practice, all the videos are on YouTube. My English Country dancing is cancelled for the time being also.

Always made the lemon squares too, such a nice quick recipe, and I also found it too sweet the last time, can’t take them to the family parties anymore, too sweet for them too.

Why don’t we start a sketching thread of our own here on Wet Canvas, something to amuse during this period of isolation? I know there are some threads in the Drawing and Sketching forum too…..what do you think? edit: I just had a quick look at that forum and it seems to be more formal drawing, some quite amazing artists, but perhaps we want something more casual, maybe here in Palette Talk?

Glad things look OK Steve. I remember that feeling of looking at that close ceiling on the video machine when I had my scan, not pleasant. Thank goodness the one I was in is not as long as a CAT scan machine. How is Lisa’s back now?

Cozy kitties Char, I do miss having a real one, have a stuffed one though :) I hope all this doesn’t make your complicated life even more so :grouphug:

Probably wise QS, people just don’t think sometimes. Hope you avoid it.

Greetings to all! I hope your days go as well as possible  :grouphug:

                        Cheers, Lynn

Hi Everyone! We’re back from the Dr.’s office. It was a fairly good visit, but Ted’s sugars are continuing to be dangerously high, so Dr. Matsusaki is going to consult with our Endocrinologist. We will not be going back. The Clinic (several Doctors offices in one building) will be closed to certain patients. For example, due to our ages, we’re high risk. Dr. Matsusaki will be doing our “visits” by phone for the foreseeable future.

                        That was alarming.

On the way home, we stopped at the No Frills grocery store. You’d have though that Armageddon has struck. The parking lot was absolutely jammed and we had to wait for a spot. Toilet paper was limited to 4 packages per family. We bought two packages. We also bought some canned sauces, tuna and salmon. The only thing I need to figure out now, is how to plan for about a month’s worth of proteins. Otherwise, should we become quarantined, we’ll be just fine.

                        That’s alarming.

Our Government has been on the CBC with breaking news. There are many cancellations and restrictions along with advisories about non essential travel. Military families are being restricted and any who are deployed will not be allowed to come home!

                        That’s alarming.

Our Prime Minister’s wife Sofie Gregoire definitely has the virus. Her symptoms are mild. The PM is self isolating along with their children. The PM will be speaking from Rideau Cottage where they are staying.

                        ************************************************************
Marmalade Muffin had lost her litter to the terrible Toms who were wandering around our area so many years ago. It was so sad because she brought them to us and cried hoping we could help her. Blackie was just a kitten herself and when her litter began to arrive just days later, Marmalade took over, kneading her tummy and cleaning the babies as they emerged. Then, she took two of the kittens for her own! Blackie didn’t object and the two Mothers cared for the four kittens together. To protect the six of them, we moved them all into a room in the basement where we fed and watered them. They had old blankets in big cardboard boxes and litter boxes for their needs. It was all a happy event.

Sadly, we lost Marmalade to the road. She was so special and it broke our collective hearts. Blackie went walk about and never returned. Three of the kittens were given to friends and Tuxedo stayed here with us. :)

                        *************************************************************

 Steve! So glad that you seem to be as healthy as you can be. But, what about this gall bladder episode?

Lynn, some of my friends are concerned about the school closures because they’ll be the ones to care for their grandchildren. These are sure trying times. I love the idea of a sketch-a-day idea! I’ll join in!

My Nutrition Class begins in 20 minutes. We’ve had our lunch, but I need to wash up the dishes.
