A good Friday to all…….will be another open up the house day here.  Loving it .

No big plans today other than the usual house husband duties, but even those are limited……laundry is already done.  It’ll just be floors, bed linens and bathroom this morning.  Then I’ll call a couple of roofing contractors.  Found a really close match to our shingles, but then as I added the other items onto the cart (roll of underlayment, roll of granulated roofing, pail of adhesive, tubes of roofing sealant), it suddenly hit me, that I had to get all this stuff up onto the roof via a ladder.  Now, I can get myself up and down a ladder to the roof, I can paint from my ladder, I can work from a ladder…..no problem.  Hauling myself and 3 bundles of shingles (appx. 90 lbs each), 2 rolls of roofing (85 lbs each) up that ladder to the roof is a different story.  Besides, materials alone were almost $400 and I’d have 3/4 of the two rolls left over.  I’m thinking it would be well worth paying someone else a couple thousand to do it.  Last thing I need is screwing up my hips, or loosing my balance going up that ladder with a load……my years of doing that kind of stuff are over.

Char…….. :good: :good:   on the lift.  Your approach to this fork in life’s stream is encouraging.

Doug…… :good: on the plumber showing up.

QS….sorry about the tooth.  I’ve got to quick putting a visit to the dentist off myself.

Just heard Lisa’s alarm go off…….time to get the morning started.  Greetings to all here and those to come…….Have a fantastic day, evening or night.  BBL

    Be good, do good…….stay safe.

    Steve.

Steve, it is definitely worth getting a roofer in to fix the roof for you..   Time comes when we have to acknowledge our limitations and get on with enjoying what we can still do.

        Do please take care.

Good morning, another day starting out in the mid 50s and ending in the mid 80s.  Glorious day having my bathroom sink working and not leaking again.

I did get the measurements right this time with the miniature door for our niece.  It is all put together.  I just have to add the finishing touches.

Char, Wonderful news that the FDA testing of the drug shows promise to ease your breathing.  Science is a wonderful thing.  I can imagine that Ted was drained by the testing process. :grouphug: To you both.  I gave my set of Christmas dishes to my oldest granddaughter.  Our every day dishes went to Goodwill.  We use the china that we got from our wedding every day.  That was one of the best decisions I made after retiring.

Steve, I am so glad that you came to your senses and did not attempt to fix the roof by yourself.  There comes a time when we just have to hire someone to do all the fun repair jobs.

Hi to everyone!  I need to eat my breakfast earlier than normal, so that I can eat lunch with John’s second cousin.  She does not know that she is getting her mini door early as well as the door for our first cousin who she visits all the time.

        Have a great day!  BBL

            Good Morning!!

Definitely fall, a high of 16C, it is supposed to be sunny, that will warm up the house.

I never made it to Canadian Tire for the little electric heater and that will be my first job after I get dressed, it’s coolish downstairs. Since the soil is soft from the rain I hope digging some holes for the daffodil bulbs should be fairly easy. I’ll attempt that in the afternoon, also need to pull out some blackeyed susans and do some grocery shopping.

Char, ohhh a pressure sore :grouphug: how does one get rid of them considering you have to sit on it all the time. I hope that lift work is moving right along at high speed and that the new medication does wonders and also :crossfingers: for Ted.

Doug, cross my fingers for the plumbers appearing and diesel to be had.

JJ, saw your email and in response I have used Ponds Dry Skin cream on my face for ever and ever and it feels good, I’ll just start using it on my body too and thanks!!!! As to the dog sitting, you are smart to stop this right at the start. It is so easy to get a cute puppy and now comes the learning responsibility part. Your orchids obviously love it there!!

QS, sorry the tooth hasn’t been fixed yet.

Annie, Roger better read the instructions and learn about the brakes quickly  :)

Steve, thinking of the tree guy who fell off the tree and just heard that my friend Rita’s handyman fell of the ladder and is handy no more so smart thinking on your part!!!

Nancy, in response to yesterday’s post, yes, we seem to gather more allergies as we get older or and they are adding more nasty stuff into things.

 to you Joy and Adena!!!

                Good day all,

Had a great night’s sleep.  It’s still overcast but we expect 70 F temps and sun later.

Doug, :good:  on the plumber.  I didn’t know your car was a diesel.  We have very few diesel operated cars here.

Annie, what you need is a remote control on Roger’s chair.  Wouldn’t that be fun?

QS, gosh I hate toothaches.  Sorry you might lose your tooth.

JJ,  Their dog, their problem.  Tell them to check out kennels.  You have a good climate for orchids.

Char, sorry about your uti.  A very serious infection that I hope will be resolved.  Is the sore you have a bed sore?

Steve, a good decision to have the work done.  I don’t dare get more than two steps up a ladder.  When I built my house, I carried all the shingles up to the roof keeping three roofers busy for three days.  It took me five days to recover from exhaustion and I was only thirty-nine at the time.

Joy, I hope you get your car back soon.  What a nice neighbor you have.

Anita, have you found your old cat yet,  I’d be worried sick for him.

Adena, I admire your love and caring for your pets.  I recently heard a good name for those who have pets:  we are not their owners, we are their guardians.

I’ll finally be able to get out to cleanup the lawn today.

                PS, hi Nancy

                Uschi, stay warm!

Hi folks, half-bath is now stripped and ready for the tiler to come tomorrow.

I’m this same Steve, I was up on the roof(2 storeys) soon after we moved in fixing a TV aerial and later on feeding a liner down the chimney for a gas boiler flue. I can’t even clean the upstairs windows now.

I hope your pressure sore and UTI respond to treatment, very difficult in your situation. :crossfingers:

                everyone,

Another grey, cool, wet day. Typical fall weather here. I got the sprinkler guy here yesterday and the system is winterized. That is a worry off my list. It had gone down to 3 the other night.

I can’t believe how different our growing season has become in the last 10 years. Usually we used to get a hard frost near the end of August. We have added 4 – 6 weeks growing to the end of our summer and a few weeks at the beginning. Next summer I am going to try planting a couple of things that require a warmer growing zone. Gladiolas used to die just as the buds formed before. I bet I could get them to flower now. I already have an Oak Tree and a White Pine that are rare up here but doing wonderfully. Our forests up here will gradually change from coniferous to more deciduous.

Char – so sorry to hear you have a pressure sore. Do you have a Roho cushion? And a UTI on top of everything else. I won’t give advise. I’m sure you have plenty. But I will give you a huge hug because virtual hugs can’t hurt. :grouphug: I hope the experimental drug helps your breathing.

‘I’ve used Oil of Olay on my face all my life. At one point they came out with a version for sensitive skin that caused hives to appear on my face while at work. Stick with what works for you.

My to do list isn’t very long today so I’ll have to decide between finding a project or relaxing.

‘Lots going on in the wash this morning and I’ve forgotten what I was going to post in answer to everyone. I’m going to have to start taking notes. Have the best day possible and stay safe.

Hi Nancy, congratulations on getting all your mini doors finished.   I’m sure they will be very well received.   Glad the leak is all fixed.  Water makes such a mess when it doesn’t stay where it’s supposed to.

Hope you get to planting the daffodils, Uschi.  They make such a lovely show when Spring arrives.   They are grown as a commercial crop down here in Cornwall and the fields look absolutely glorious.

I can collect the car at 5pm Bill…..for the eye watering sum of £1000.   :crying:

We’ve all been there, Doug.   The thing is we’re of the generation that just got on and did what needed to be done so it comes hard to admit that there are now things that we can’t do.   I don’t think that the next generation (in general) are as resilient.

It’s nice to tick jobs off the list as done for this year, isn’t it, Ellen.   The only problem is the older you get the faster the years go and in no time you’re having to contemplate doing the job all over again.   Enjoy the new plants that are becoming acclimatised to your region.

Well, I made a batch of apple turnovers this morning so I’ve just about time to make my DH a coffee before I have to set off to collect the car so I guess we’ll make a couple of them disappear.

                    Take care all.

                    Joy.

Joy, I had to make an appointment with the dentist just now for tomorrow.  I have a tooth that is hurting before I leave for Vegas.  The tooth is fine, it had a root canal.  It started hurting after my last cleaning.  Glad that I was able to get in.

Talked to our grandson-in-law who is stationed in Vegas.  We will get together for dinner.  He will let me know what day/night after he looks after his work schedule.

Ellen, You are our barometer on Climate Change.  Through your posts we have seen the summers getting longer in your area.  At least, you are not living on permafrost land.  I dread the time change again.  There is a memorial of white flags on the Washington Mall representing all the deaths from Covid 19.  The flags have the names and dates of each person who has passed away.

This is so sad, and some of those deaths could have been prevented.

Have a great afternoon everyone.  I am getting ready to meet my lunch date.

                        Good morning, all~

I’m taking a minute to check in.  I have a busy day, starting to get ready for my stay in Michigan with mom.  Laundry, sorting through clothes (changing seasons), hair appt, making a card for younger grandson (celebrating his early Oct b-day tomorrow), and a bit of shopping.

So far, I avoided covid I think, but also may have a sinus flare up.  Allergies!  Just feeling off my game, but better today than yesterday.  My husband is fine!!!

Char~ I’m so sorry about you pressure sore and UTI.  Nothing like making you feel even more uncomfortable.  As Ellen said, a cushion is helpful, but you are surrounded by people who have solutions, so you are in good hands.

Uschi~ I hope you get your heat sorted out, and get to Canadian Tire for the portable heater.  We have one we use when it’s really windy and cold—our windows are drafty and it gets chilly in the family room.  Window replacement is also on the proverbial ‘to-do’ list!

Doug~ glad the plumber showed up.  How is the private community site going to work if WC will be no more?  Would it be on Painter Friends?

Steve~ wise decision!!!  My DH is still contemplating ladders, but getting closer to letting someone else do the ‘high work.’

QS~ I hate that kind of news from the dentist.  I hope the clove oil is working and you can hold off until November.  My dentist still uses it—an oldie, but it works.

Joy~ I’m glad you will have your car soon.  You have a great neighbor.

Adena~ I’m glad you were able to squeeze in some late summer windsurfing and sailing.  You’ve had some busy days!

Hi Nancy, Bill, Lynn, Annie, Lulu, JJ, and all still coming along, or I’ve missed.

                        ~ Carol

I have the email addresses of all (I hope) Daily Wash regulars and would email an invitation to the private forum if it comes to pass.

So far I find that the Coffee Shoppe threads on Painters Friends are very like our Daily Wash.

                            Hi Everyone

Char to you and Ted :grouphug: :crossfingers:

Peterborough City has a NO cat outside policy now for the last 2 or 3 years and people are only allowed to own 2 cat’s at the maximum.

JJ I think you did the right thing regarding babysitting the dog, as people need to be responsible for their pet’s with the appropriate kennel’s!

Kay I hope you are managing okay with the skooter! I sure wish I would have had one when I had a broken leg and broken back!

Speaking of root canals!  I have had 4 in the past in back molars and lost 2 of those to extraction after they eventually split in half and abcessed, sometimes they go to deep and that can happen!

Good luck with car and roof repairs, better to have someone to hire!

I must get in the kitchen and put on some butternut squash soup for lunch and find out what the heck Monet is barking at!

                            :grouphug: and stay safe

Well….it’s warming up a bit, but still quite comfortable and pleasant with the house opened up.  The roofing contractor who redid our whole roof back in 2014 will be here Monday to inspect and give us an estimate. I don’t have any problems on the ladder, it’s just that added weight of the bundles and rolls that I question the wisdom of attempting with my hips.  I wish I still had my “ladder dolly”  that thing was a gawd send……..had tongs like a forklift that extended out about 20″ from the ladder and a set of wheels that that fit over the side rails of the ladder. It was great for pulling up items like bundles of shingles, rolls, 5 gallon paint cans, etc., etc..  One person went up the ladder with the rope, another person on the ground mounted the dolly on the ladder and loaded it, then you just pulled it up the ladder, locked it at the top and unloaded it………way more easier and safer than trying to haul items up the ladder on your shoulder using just one hand and your legs to climb the ladder.  But……it was one of the first items to sell when I closed down our shop in Florida.

                            House husband duty time……..

                            Steve.

We received 4 1/2″ of rain these last three days.  The ground was dry and absorbed most of it.  the creek didn’t rise that much.

Sharon, will the authorities come into your house to check on the number of cats?  Kittens aren’t cats. :)
