It was popular in ye old days when crafts were more popular.
I suspect acrylics over glue would have the same effect, there are crackle effect paints available still in most hobby-type stores in little jars. Experiment, and post photos of the results

June 9, 2018 at 7:07 pm #637339the storm having calmed down I turn on the computer again … here are my two essays the red on canvas frame, the blue on watercolor paper on black background each time .. dry and then I passed the wood glue and immediately set paint without rubbing so as not to disturb the glue .. here are the pictures .
I did not varnish then because I had the impression that the wood glue well dry did not fear moisture ..June 10, 2018 at 5:10 am #637331Lovely result with the gold Clode! I used to have some rabbit skin glue somewhere Greggo, it is stinky stuff though, which is why it is somewhere in a box…

I think I did some frames in that crackle effect.
Never tried it intentionally in a painting, altho a few paintings did crackle unexpectedly, some even flaked off.https://s3.amazonaws.com/wetcanvas-hdc/Community/images/17-Jul-2013/110200-Tatrabanner.jpg [FONT=Times New Roman] Click here for>> WC FAQS >
June 11, 2018 at 1:18 am #637332Have you done any experiments with varnish yet clode? I might try putting some clear medium over mine but, as you say, it will be safer to make sure that it is completely dry before doing that.

I also exposed the red and gold (for a brave test because I had a day a disappointment with another technique poorly mastered ..) .in a church disused wet and cold place in principle and it has not moved after a month …. I concluded that acrylic on wood glue not need to varnish?
