Greetings all! I need constructive criticism for my new painting “Father and Son”. I am trying to master Bouguereau’s style and overall achieve a mastery over classical realism. I started off by doing an underpainting, skipped the grisaille (I usually don’t do this, but I wanted to see how would the color layer would react without monochrome layer underneath), and directly headed into color. I was inspired by Nature’s Fan by Bouguereau for the lighting effect, something I was trying to achieve in this painting. This is an oil painting on panel, 18×24.

Thank you for criticism and help!!!

I was a little confused by the son wearing the same shirt.

It looks fairly good, but as above said, its a bit confusing with the fathers shirt, its lined up in a way which feels unnatural and looks like its part of the sons clothes. And I do think the fathers heel should be smaler. But I do like the glow and warmth in the image
