Hi, recently I uploaded some videos mainly on the topic of pictorial composition on one of my YouTube channels. I hope that some of you might find them of interest.

        Enjoy,

        Keith

Hi Keith, while you are discussing composition, I have a question (others hopefully can answer too):

In your painting, the half bottom has little information (only blues). My eyes want the vase to be lowered a bit so that the portion of less important blue is reduced (I, my mind, feel disturbed because the flower kind of hit the “roof”).

What is the reasoning behind your/this choice of composition?

                Hi Sonjaya,

Yes, that one was kind of an experiment. I decided to break a couple of composition rules such as placing the focal point exactly in the center and dividing the picture plane in half. I wanted to see if I could make the blue section appear higher up than it actually is. I also wanted to make the pitcher seem as though it was further right than it actually is.

You may very well be right regarding the placement. normally I would have taken off about half of the blue section. I was just interested in seeing about shifting centers in that one. Perhaps I succeeded in one area, yet failed overall.

Thank you very much for your feedback. You seem to have a very good eye and sense of space and balance. It would be great to have your input when I’m in the planning stages at times for sure.

                Thanks again,

                Keith
