Gouache on paper size 8 x14 inches.
The scene is from my imagination,It is set in c1933 which is the only period when I could get all these vessels together in one picture.

I should have said that the city was Liverpool, the Collier is taking Lancashire coal to Northern Ireland, her name is Rockville, the white ship is the Vandyke returning from the East coast of South America with passengers and cargo, the Mersey flats(barges) are transporting cargo from the docks to the canal systems and the river Weaver,

Wonderful Dave. As I always say about your work, you produce such harmony. I love the sea, the sky and the distance achieved.

Thank you for your comment Kay,I tend to paint with gouache in the winter months when the small bedroom that i use to paint with oils and acrylics can be bad for the fumes from the Liquin.

The Mersey Flats shown in this painting where the last to use sail most had already been converted to Dumb Barges which could be towed by Tugboats,as much as 8 at a time.

Strong colors and contrast, and great sense of moment, from the wind to the sails, smoke, and waves. Nicely done! Reminds of scenes along the Chesapeake Bay here in Maryland, where you never know what mix of large and small ships you’ll see.

Still much to paint and much to learn!
