Just received a Conte a Paris charcoal pencil 2b 728 and love it. immeadiately ordered two more. Quite like this sketch, but criticism welcome…

P.S. I’ve found I’ve been getting a bit loose with my drawings, especially with the sanguine sticks so I tried to get some reasonably accurate marks on this image and blocked in the shadows before using my fingers and getting messy. I think I might need to get back to pencil for a bit

Head’s a bit small (no?) but otherwise I really like this, strong lines, strong feeling of perspective. She’s pneumatic in the 1984 sense!

I mean the Brave New World sense, getting my dystopias confused there…

I really like it. Bold curves and well conveyed volumes.

Thanks folks, I think she might be a just a little over inflated. Call it artistic license ;)

There is a lot about this to like: the face, the designing/use of space, the feeling of volume. As you note, there is some over inflation. The breasts seem awkward (if that is the right word), especially the left.

Thanks Kate, yes the face is my favourite part

David I like the energy in this work.. I might suggest varying your strong contour edges .. where should they matter ? where should they be lessened ? softer forms can work better with softer contours.. bones can work better with sharper ones..

I totally agree with you Kevin. Heavy contour edges are cheap trick to finish a drawing. I must get out of the habit!

I like the bold shapes. Maybe the shadows under the right breast and around that arm could be softened?
