Hi, I’m thinking of changing some of my plein air equipment. I have the lg sienna pochade box now. I like it a lot but don’t love it completly. I looking at getting a U-go new wave lg box. They seem nice, also looking at a canvas panel holder that mounts to a tripod. Sienna and Guirilla brand. Looking for advice, anyone owning what I’m looking at. Thank you.

November 2, 2021 at 5:40 am #1444347So much depends on how you like to paint and how you like to carry your supplies that it’s really not useful to recommend anything until we have those details.
FWIW, I have a Guerrilla Painter box (9×12), a few DIY pochades, and tray and post system on the tripod, and now a DIY pastel pochade box. These encompass oil, acrylic and now pastel media. I won’t bother you with them all. But the two things they have in common for en plein air are: they are all based on an inexpensive tripod with a replacement heavy duty pan head, and I paint sitting down.
If I were back at acrylic (or oil or similar) I would recommend a shelf and mast system on a tripod, rather than a large box pochade. My reason is that the box systems tend to limit the canvas size too much and the full box is heavy on the tripod head. Nothing wrong with them, but those are factors I’ve found I don’t have to deal with now.
If I were back at the large pochade system, I would recommend the GP Campaign Box instead or the Soho imitation of the Sienna system. YMMV
November 2, 2021 at 2:56 pm #1444434I agree with you. I first started looking at the Seinna panel holder, and some others. I do like the GP campaign box. Thank you.

November 11, 2021 at 12:51 pm #1445789Hello I answered you on the other forum, but just in case you didn’t see it…
I have many different setups and what I use depends on my mode of transportation. Either by bike, horse, atv, canoe, tractor or truck, or just hiking. Some setups are too heavy to hike with, some jiggle around too much for my horse, etc. That kind of thing…
Among these, I do happen to have a Sienna panel holder and a Guerilla French Resistance kit along with a Guerilla Pocket Box kit. I use them with ease and comfort.
The U-Go looks nice, I was checking it out in the store.. It sure is light weight..
Hope this helps

November 16, 2021 at 1:13 pm #1446532I’ve tried many a system – I do like the openness of the mast systems. Favorite so far is Coulter. It’s great workmanship and provides some nice palette area. I’ve also used a en plein air pro and daytripper and liked them as well but like the natural wood and larger space of the Coulter. While those systems all pack light there’s still alot of pieces and I’m trying to get my rig to the simplest configuration. I’ve also used various sizes of guerilla boxes, U-go, and a full french easel. While they are convenient for carrying stuff inside or quick set up, none were very comfortable for me. Yep, I like gear – alot. Have my eye on the EdgePro Paint Box next. Good luck in your search. Hope this helps a bit.
