It looks good, Chris
Now I never said you may not blend graphite. A lot of artists do it successfully. I can only advice what is generally thought to be the best way.
Growing as an artist means also trying things out, rejecting what does not work – for you. And developing what seems to work. Blending looks a good technique for you, so by all means use it .
Dear Arnoud, I hope all is well with you. I have not been in The Classroom for a long time. I am going to try and continue my lesson here after reviewing your past comments. I am at work now (yuck) but hope to get started again soon in The Classroom.

April 29, 2019 at 4:23 pm #1190494AnonymousWell done, Chris
Given that we are in a class environment, where we try to improve, here are a few thoughts:
— the proportions are rather off. No big deal for a still life, but having a good eye for proportions is essential for e.g. a portrait.— the tones, the contrasts between dark and light, are rather bland. It looks a bit as an underdeveloped B&W photo. A bold contrast would make it stand out.
Keep up the good work
April 29, 2019 at 5:42 pm #1190586Hi Arnoud, thank you so much for your comments. Yes, my mistake in not checking the proportions after shading, erasing, shading some more. I can understand also that I should have pushed the darks as well.
May I go on to the 102 courses? Specifically, the landscape classes?
If you think I should stay with and re-do this project or go with another 101 class – I will do whatever you suggest. You are the instructor of course and I truly value your input. Thank you again.:)
By the way are you the instructor for all the classes?

May I go on to the 102 courses? Specifically, the landscape classes? No problem, you’re free to choose any class that you like
By the way are you the instructor for all the classes?
As a matter of fact, I did not devise any of the classes. A team headed by JayD wrote them years ago. I just took over as a guide.
April 30, 2019 at 12:43 pm #1190587I am so happy that you have taken over as guide for all of the drawing classes. I noticed in some of the classes there has not been any activity for awhile and I thought oh no, does that mean there is no instructor….
I know how expensive art instruction can be, bless you for doing this for free.
Will be posting again soon…

Very well done.August 2, 2019 at 7:17 pm #1190687Dear Arnoud,
Thank you for taking the time to check my work.
Moving on to assignment 2: plum and grapes.
I have colored pencil yet never really get a hang of it. Will try it on the next assignment.
Excellent work, Alice :clap::clap:
Very well done.August 10, 2019 at 2:19 pm #1190688Dear Arnoud,
Attempted assignment 2 with colored pencil. The background started with a wash of watercolor then with charcoal pencil.Watercolor is not a media considered as “drawing”. Color pencil is a media I am still not comfortable yet. Do not want to jump to pastel yet. Need to think about the choice of media for colored drawing in the future.

July 5, 2020 at 10:05 am #1307994The reason why some people struggle at the beginning when they take up drawing is lack of high quality learning materials. The best practice is drawing a lot. In school, in work, in the morning and evening. I started with course and I don’t regret. If you want you can check out course I have choosen https://drawing-session.com This course is very comprehensive and newbie friendly. After I had completed the course I started going to local art school and it developed my skils even more.
