Hi everyone!
mosc, Becca and Marcia, thanks for the congrats on my 3rd Place! I’ve been trying to get a decent photo but no luck so far. It’s got color that the camera just doesn’t want to do justice to.
Becca, maybe, if you don’t come up with another solution, you could at least donate your excess art. At least you’d get a tax write-off.
Becca and Marcia, thanks for your concern about Pearl. I use only a portion of a small can for each meal, basically 1/4 of the recommended daily amount, and then feed two meals of dry food, again 1/4 of the recommended amount for dry. That way, when they’re both added together she receives enough and she gets the benefits of both types of food. I think she’s just decided that she wants only [em]completely[/em] fresh food – nothing that’s ever been refrigerated, even when I warm it just slightly in the microwave which I’ve done since I adopted her. Thank god for bonito flakes, with which I doctor food that she’s refused, or I’d be wasting a lot! Even that doesn’t always work. I didn’t want a fussy cat, so I worked hard to get her used to eating a variety of food (I use very good brands, mostly TikiCat and BFF, but sometimes TJ’s and others like Avoderm), but it also appears that she want single-item food, no mixture, for instance, of tuna and shrimp. She’s become a purist. I don’t think it’s a health issue, because she happily will eat food from a just-opened can of a single-item type of food. As I mentioned, I give her half her dry food in the morning and half in the evening, and I need to make sure she has some to eat first thing in the AM or else she’ll wake me up too early. I tried cutting back last night so this morning it was front paws wrapped around my leg and back paws bunny kicking at 7AM, after I’d only gotten to sleep around 1AM. I’m never really sure if she’s really hungry that early or just wants company.
I’m concerned about Nancy’s absence too. Do you think it may be time for a phone call?
Mark, those photos of Stockholm are terrific. I love painting cityscapes and I bet you will too. They’re more challenging but also more rewarding. I’ll be waiting to see what you come up with…
Becca, gorgeous photos – both of them! What incredible color in the sunset!
Marcia, ugh…it’s warmed up a lot here too, but nothing like where you are. I would never survive in your weather, but lucky you to have an air conditioned studio!
Mary, I guess I need to wish you both welcome back and bon voyage!
I have a ton of things to get done this week, but yesterday I spent the afternoon/evening painting instead. I tried something different, and just jumped in using oil instead of solvent to do a loose sketch and lay down a first layer. It’s not really finished and I’m not completely satisfied with where it is now, but it’s already a success in terms of learning to paint more quickly and (somewhat) more loosely.

June 19, 2018 at 2:12 pm #632554Ugh, I hate doing plumbing. It took 2 extra trips to home derpo: once because I cross threaded something and the 2nd because I glued a piece on backwards. Finally, when I turned the water back on, no leaks!
Then when I hooked the water line up to the swamp cooler, the float assembly began vibrating in amost frightful way. Turns out a hose washer had worn out and the float was loose. Luckily I keep a supply of those around, but putting it on required taking the whole thing apart.
I think I earned my lunch today.
Annie, I had a cat that was picky about not eating cold food too. Sounds like Pearl is just fine, if a little picky. My cats have settled on one flavor of Wellness, which is fine with me, because I can order it by the case from Amazon.
Mary, this 2nd trip sounds more like a chore than a vacation, especially if it is keeping you from painting!
Becca, somehow I missed your sunset photo this morning. It is gorgeous!

I got the lettering done on the rock yesterday. It isn’t perfect, but I doubt anyone is going to scrutinize it so closely to see if it covers the rock just like the original. Hoping to finish the background today, then the lettering will need some touching up. As much as I love this painting, and I know people will like it, it is probably destined to be a nonseller.
Summer doldrums are officially here, it is 7 ayem and 85°. I have heard that it is just as hot in other parts of the country, with the extra curse of humidity. If you live in any of those areas, I hope you all are staying cool.

Becca's Fine ArtJune 21, 2018 at 8:58 pm #632379Thanks, Marcia. Well, since rock painting is such a big deal these days, you never know.
Yeah, it’s been pretty miserable here this week for sure! I am so thankful for air conditioning!!

It is deceptively cool this morning. :clear: I think I will take a short hike this morning. We had ribs, sweet corn, vinegarette potato salad, and watermelon salad at a friend’s house last night, and ate ourselves silly. I really need to walk it off!
Hope you all have a splendid day!

basically survived the day, and think I’m coming out this side intact…actually that applies more to the week than this day solo…hopefully this day began the upswing..

Becca's Fine ArtJune 22, 2018 at 9:20 pm #632559The walk was great, it was around 75º at 7 AM. I had a couple errands to run in town this afternoon – the thermometer in my car read as high as 108º around 3 pm.
I am taking my bf to the airport in San Diego Tuesday to catch an 8:20 AM flight the next morning. Forecast is high of 75º. We made the reservation there for 2 reasons: Palm Springs does not have nonstop flights to Boston and it is 115º+ degrees down there at the moment.
And good news! The Santa Fe trip has been postponed until the end of July, so there is a still a chance for me to go.

and great news about the Santa Fe trip….hope you are able to go…
as for me, this lingering Ca issue… 18 months now….and counting…has really compounded all the reg stresses for me…but, thinking there is an outside possibility that a big portion of the Ca thing may be resolved in a week or two…plan to call my agent monday and find out… at this point barely know what life is like without it hanging out there…
and, never mentioned, but have had a few ideas for my overflowing paintings…at least specifically…one recent idea was a mock viking funeral…however after thinking it through decided the chance of a painting escaping the boat and becoming airborne while aflame was just too big a risk..my luck there would be a dozen of them in flight over the northwest spreading flames far and wide…lol..
other though was a pop up shop…but seems that could be very costly without any promise of sales even an very low pricing…
so for the moment still stumped…

Becca's Fine ArtJune 22, 2018 at 9:47 pm #632501I’m very sorry to have worried any of you!:(
My problem had to do with a doctor last Friday who, I think, has no business being a doctor. He’s a cardiologist who decided that my only problem was that I’m getting older.
That’s pretty obvious to me, and didn’t help at all. This coming Monday I’ll be seeing my regular doctor, and I plan to give him all the advice that the other guy doled out to me, which wasn’t much of anything except maybe I should get more exercise, which I already do twice daily.
Anyway, for a long while this week, I wasn’t doing much of anything. I was stunned and, the worst part was I didn’t do any painting, which is good for the soul. Thank goodness I stilly have a lot of paintings to take to the gallery next Thursday.
Marcia and Annie, I’m so glad you both had some high points with your paintings this week! When I finish this post, I’m going over to WOYE to see your work.

Becca's Fine ArtJune 22, 2018 at 11:18 pm #632560Hi Nancy!!! Sorry your cardiologist was a disappointment (too bad we can’t rate doctors like we can rate products on Amazon.) Maybe your PCP can recommend you to a geriatric specialist? Is this the same guy that gave you the same diagnosis a year or so ago, before it turned out you needed that heart monitoring vest?
Becca, glad you are not quite ready to consign your old paintings to the dumpster quite yet.
Long day here, bf is taking me out to dinner! I will post my 2 latest pieces (finished!) on woye tomorrow. I just now finished entering them, and one other, in the National Park show. If any of them get accepted, it will be interesting to see which one they choose.
