April 26, 2018 at 3:49 am #596361Hello everyone! Great work in this thread
I’m adding my historical monster, which I posted in the main forum yesterday:
“It’s Lonely in the Labyrinth”
Sennelier, Neopastel, and Sakura Specialist oil pastels on Clairefontaine Pastelmat, 13″ x 9″, no references:Minotaurs are my favourite ‘monster’, I have a bit of thing for them. I was thinking about the original Greek minotaur locked up alone in the labyrinth, wondering what he’d get up to when he wasn’t chomping on virgins. Perhaps alternately rampaging with insane fury and feeling the weight of the loneliness of his captivity.
I’d think I’d like to join in with the SciFi/Fantasy challenges, if that’s OK. I like that the challenges here don’t require photo refs because I much prefer working from my imagination.

That’s a really nice concept nicely done.
And I use my head instead of reference too, so you ain’t alone.April 26, 2018 at 4:00 pm #596406Hey, if Titian could steal a pose from Giorgione, I don’t feel guilty. :wink2: I consider it “paying homage.”

April 27, 2018 at 8:42 am #596301SarahY thanks for adding your wonderful and new vision of the classic Minotaur. I really love the emotion in this work.
Everything in this reads pathos, from the droopy ears, the sad eyes, the pose of abject loneliness, even the curve of the tail.
Fantastic! It would be great to have you join us, the more the merrier.

My DeviantArt GalleryApril 27, 2018 at 9:25 am #596358A total change of subject, but I just found I have a relative who works for Bioware. For those who don’t know, it’s a branch of EA Games. For a gamer, that’s pretty exciting lol.

April 27, 2018 at 10:39 pm #596473Greetings from Bellerophon, fellow Wet Canvas Artists, here’s my “2 Cents Worth” on the April Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge entry’s! As I am the “New Guy” here at Wet Canvas Sci-Fi and Fantasy just let me say I’m glad to be in such good company.
Vanity; Love the cute Kraken, at first it made me hungry, it looks real enough to eat but I’d have to cuddle it first. But I wouldn’t want to take it home for it would grow up and eat me out of house and home….literally!
Suzie; Cool and Menacing Hydra, and its design would also make a formidable Viking Ship with many prows!
Attalus; Very Exotic and Beautiful Egyptian face on the Sphinx, she would hypnotize a man before she devoured him!
Talisman; The Hydra is scary (like a nest of snakes), and I really like the Minotaur s Battle Pose. I like the Minotaur sketch, but don’t be afraid of the darks!
L. Skylar Brown; The figures are Digital, but they have a porcelain quality that makes them look totally real; kudos! The Nemo and the Gill Man concept is genius, two of my favorite characters all in one artwork.
Lavender Frost; I LOVE sketches (both doing and looking at them), they express so much so simply and so quickly. Your “Puppy Cerberus” is a great example of that; it’s a finished piece unto itself, and adorable to boot!
Woody Welch; Your “Japanese Spider Whore” is a scary concept; you’ve executed a realistic nightmare I wouldn’t want to wake up to. If she’s that scary I’d hate to run into her PIMP!
VMRS; A very nice acrylic, I love traditional mediums where you can see the strokes of paint, and it’s a great imagining of a Griffith; I’d love to see what you do with it finished!
Jamie9526; I thought this was traditional medium until I went to your YouTube and watched the “How To”; I like the “feel” of it, it’s as if one would find it on the side of a Greek or Roman Vase.
Sarah Y; I was just walking past my wife (talisman) while she was on the computer and I did an “about face” because she was looking at your “’Minotaur’. His emotions are all visible in his countenance and mannerism; bored to tears waiting for someone to get lost in his maze, reliving his “glory days”, his tummy rumbling in hunger for a human snack. Your very well done painting makes me sorry for him!
Some great art from everyone this month, so glad to join your ranks and I look forward to looking at more of your wonderful works in the future! Bellerophon…
Terry
