Is there a lot of people who buy paintings who visit their website? It seemed to be more for artists when I looked.
I think it depends on the quality of the artwork and who painted it but I think it opens up a different type of customer. I think there are those that follow the contest and will purchase pieces but not all winners will get bought either. The ARC Salon will also purchase artwork for their own collection and not necessarily those that won anything.
The website has all the Honorable Mentions to the Winners from all the previous contests displayed on their website so people can look back and see what did well and what the purchase price was if bought. I love painting realism so this contest shows me what conceptual ideas people come up with which can be good training for the brain.
The ARC contest is HUGE for realist. They have about 5000 entries from 80+ different countries so this type of exposure can help broaden the path to success and get noticed in different corners of the world:
1. Sothebys has been involved with auctioning off artwork entered into the contest.
2. Recently several chosen artworks will be etched into a nickel plate and put in a time capsule on the moon.
3. Artwork may travel the world and be displayed in the major galleries around the world from Spain to France.
4. Magazine coverage, etc..
Paintings can be entered into multiple categories so I will enter all mine into Imaginative Realism and Figurative. There are different judges for different categories and I’m hoping this will broaden my chances of getting noticed.
