I posted this in the oil forum some days ago. I myself like it a lot and would like some feedback, does not have to be clever remarks or eloquent, don’t be shy. If you like or not or something. I feel extremely bulletproof about this particular one so if you want to bash, feel free, would be interested in what sonebody woul remark on. ca 35x50cm or sth like that

September 9, 2021 at 2:12 pm #1433937Ok, thank you for looking and commenting. It is always intetesting that tastes vary….
I feel very confident, but maybe with time I will revalue who knows. Would be intetesting to hear where your concerns are.
Also I apologize for my many spelling mistakes. I only have my phone….

It’s like a cast on an arm; servers a purpose but stands out and forces your attention. There are those who would love that part best. Not a biggie; art is very individual in interpretation.
To further explain my point, let’s assume the person has a nice hair style but you never get to see it because your attention has been diverted by the cast.
September 9, 2021 at 5:18 pm #1433967Ah I get it… I felt glacier, but still I value your opinion. I will keep it in mind and have the painting up and look and think. Glacier doesnt have to be snowy whit, but can be a bit dirty white. Might be that I actually agree. Luckily I am on vacation so I will look in a few weeks with fresh eyes!!!

Nice passages and peaceful mood . However i’m not sure if i’m looking up to the sky, or down at a lake. The top strip is confusing me.

September 12, 2021 at 4:51 am #1434439Thank you Arnie, is it a good confusion or not? ☺ I sometimes turn my abstracts around a lot to see new things. As this is imaginary it became a glacier or snow thing in my head after I put it there. And if you turn the painting up side down And the blue can be what you want it to be, sea, sky… and up side down ..

Perhaps the center stark light value is unresolved. It does seem hard to see the piece as a whole. Some passages seem to be abstracted, others not so.
September 13, 2021 at 2:04 pm #1434834I am not sure I follow. I will have a long good look when I get home.
This is not from any ref photo, it was something that came together in layers, and first in this 3rd or 4th layer I got it together.
I wonder if it is a problem that I call it “abstract” I could just call it imaginary landscape. I think in the layers under, that come through were actually nonfigurative abstract. But then again abstracts can be figurative I think? And just because I think of a glacier, it wasnt what I thought while painting, I work from coloured surfaces and by association some things might appear. I have an other abstract landscape that I made at the same time, it also has something whiteish to one side, it wasnt meant to be snow or glacier but I thought it looked like it.
It is figurative, abstract. I guess?
I agree that it is painted with elements that are hazy, unpronounced, and others that are more squeaky and sharp, if you want to take the time to elaborate feel free.
here is the other were colour and form come together and becomes figurative. It is also oil on a small piece of canvas ca 30x40cm

I think it works well as an abstraction of a glacier landscape. The dominant white shape works for me on a couple of levels. It can read as snow or ice, and also read as a hole in the paint layer, much as a glacier cuts the landscape around it. Nice work.

September 14, 2021 at 1:55 pm #1435070Thank you David, I kind of stumbled into the world of glaciers quite by chance with these pieces.
Yours was very nice.
When I think of glaciers I think of one in the Banff, Alberta (?) nature reserve where I’ve been. That’s the closest encounter with glaciers I have had. It had a core of manganese blue with slight viridian.

In my mind the first is not progressing from one stage to another in a single series of steps. It is not so sequential in order.
September 14, 2021 at 2:25 pm #1435079Wayne, that’s such an interesting observation. Glad you liked the palette of the second!
