Made with reference to sketches I made on location, and a lot of memory, as it’s a place I visit often on my sketching trips. The painting approximates the view from the bridge over one of the main land drains in the Holderness area of East Yorkshire.

“Shadows and reflections”. Acrylic and watercolor pencil on box canvas, 12×12 inches.

PLEASE how do I make these dreadful yellow things go away? OMG there's even more of the awful things now.

        Abstract but effective.

I agree with Doug. It feels like a good representation of the place. Gary

Good sense of water and reflections and also of distance through to sky. Rather effective I think!

Thanks each and all. It’s very clear that I don’t aim for accurate representation. But nor do I consider my work abstract—semi-abstract perhaps—but I think of my work as being more on the expressive spectrum.

Beautiful atmospheric semi abstract painting John.

I like the abstraction in this one John.  What are the white/cream elements supposed to be? They catch my eye the most.  The trees behind those marks look great and the whole painting is very harmonious.

Abstract, and yet I get the idea here. I really like the textured feeling it gives off – the water feels wet, for example.

Still much to paint and much to learn!
