A Seascape from a YouTube video.
I didn’t copy his layout or try to mimic his scene, just followed along with what he said/did etc. [Vaguely] YouTube link below.https://youtu.be/xXSCo0nHHHw
My effort below.
Would really appreciate some advice / on how to improve at doing this.
I did flick some paint at it, with a palette knife and rough bristle brush. Palette knife also used. FYI.
I did the photo from my Amazon fire tablet. If you know of an app that will help me improve the clarity of the image, please let me know?
Thank you.

The sky is perhaps too dark, and it is all one same hue – it needs some temperature shifts. I use ultramarine and burnt umber for skies – adding a bit of the umber adds some natural warmth to the sky, whereas just straight ultramarine all over is too much.

I don’t have any ‘Burnt Umber’.May 12, 2019 at 4:48 pm #827206Very cool. I think that’s very good for a first seascape. And I agree with AllisonR. That looks like some photos that have a darker sky that what it really is.

It’s not all the same hue/colour/ and ultramarine was not used.😂😂😂
It’s just a bad photograph.May 12, 2019 at 6:05 pm #827207What would be the best way to correct it @AllisonR please?
I don’t have any ‘Burnt Umber’.It’s not bad as it is, I’ve seen days with skies something like this. You can mix a brown to add some warmth with some red and yellow added to the blue and white.
I like the water you’ve painted very much, you’ve captured the look of the ocean and there’s lots of movement.

May 13, 2019 at 12:18 am #827197Very nice. I love the way you did the water. But I think the colors of the sky should be more closely related to the water.

May 13, 2019 at 11:32 am #827198That is probably one of the best waves I’ve seen from someone whose never done one before. Maybe even from someone who has. Good job.
I do find the left side of the the sky to be too dark and that’s a distraction, however, that may just be the photograph.

May 14, 2019 at 10:19 pm #827200Very nice. I have no problems with the sky color. It is a tad too dark on the left side – if it’s not just the photo – but that is just my opinion.
The wave is the star of the show and very well done.

Thank you for your comment.
I appreciate it.
I’m going to adjust the sky colour later on today, perhaps with some burnt umber as has been suggested to me by Allison Art on this site.May 19, 2019 at 8:08 pm #827205Alan Kingwell has great youtube vids (and DVD’s), you may want to view them to get some ideas.

It certainly is.
I’ve been stuck trying to improve my cloud painting, trees etc, and came across a video on seascapes, had a go at it, and that is genuinely my first attempt.Thank you for your kind comment. I appreciate your time.
