Growing up we had a cottage on one of The Great Lakes and I recall on many a morning watching the Seagulls as the sun appeared over the horizon. They would perform their aerial antics against a gorgeous sunlit sky as streams of light cascaded around them.
This acrylic painting was done with some drybrushing and scumbling type technique in the sky. These days I still like to sit at the beach edge when down at the lake in hopes of catching a gimpse of these winged wonders as they glide about effortlessly catching the updrafts while the sun cascades beautiful rays of colour about the picturesque sky

May 31, 2019 at 6:43 am #834457The colors & contrast work terrific but it is the positioning of the birds in flight which make the painting IMO & perfectly capture the essence of the scene – Well Composed John !

Everything else being equal, I would rather be in the painting zone.

May 31, 2019 at 8:45 am #834465Thanks Michael….I must admit it is an uplifting piece ( no pun intended-LOL)
Something about the rays and open cloud formation that gives me a spiritual lift as well.Oldnmartist- Appreciate your comments and it is true I do think that burst of light gives us a boost….looking at it certainly makes me feel the warmth and presence.
Thanks again to you both.
JohnMay 31, 2019 at 9:43 am #834454Beautiful painting John, it all looks just perfect to me, the magical sky, that dark ocean and most of all well drawn and painted birds of the right proportions flying in an interesting dance. Great work!

May 31, 2019 at 10:20 am #834461Beautiful painting – the dance of the birds is so well depicted – awesome!
May 31, 2019 at 10:37 am #834456Your ballet does describe the beauty with which seagulls catch the shore breezes in the hunt for food. I can hear their raucous screeching. They are both ballet dancers and beach bullies. Gary

C & C WelcomeMay 31, 2019 at 10:54 am #834466Hi Caroline – thanks so very much for the wonderful comments…. I think it is a combination of the situated birds and the wondeful sunlit rays of hope that pulled me into this scene.
Loretta7- thanks so much, I really tried to balance this one throughout the scene…much appreciated.
CaliAnn- your words always bring a smile to my face. Thanks so much and have a great weekend.
Gary- thanks again….there is definitely an upbeat presence to thse winged wonders agaiinst the light but yes they can be a nuisance for sure and create some loud aggresive noise at their worst times. LOL
Ginny- as always I appreciate your wonderful comments. I have framed this piece and it always seems to send me a spiritual uplift. Have a great weekend.
Thank you all…. what a great group.

May 31, 2019 at 7:32 pm #834453Does what it says on the box – stunning painting indeed showing the
choreography of the birds – well painted birds as well. Love the light on the
sea.June 1, 2019 at 5:58 am #834458A beautiful landscape! I like what you did with the birds against the sunlight.

June 1, 2019 at 9:24 am #834463I love the cascading light and its reflection on the sea. The birdies are poetry in motion, and there is a real sense of them swooping and gliding. I also love the gradation of blue in the sky. All-in-all super!
