Welcome to the Colored Pencil Forum!

Hi! We’re looking forward to getting to know you and your art!
Before you dive in and get started, here are some links, rules of the road, and other information you’ll find really handy:

If you are brand new to WetCanvas!, visit the New Users Forum or Read the FAQs Sticky
It will help you navigate WetCanvas in general and figure out the bells and whistles available to you!

Introduce Yourself!
To introduce yourself here in the Colored Pencil Forum, feel free to post in the Who Are You? I Really Want to Know! thread. You can tell us as much or as little about yourself as you’d like. And if you’re feeling really brave, you can post a picture of yourself in the What We Look Like pt. 2 thread. For the truly curious, the older (although we all look younger! ) thread is here: What we Look Like pt. 1
Our Monthly Chat Thread - Outside the Lines
We have a monthly chat thread that begins on the first of every month. The thread title is “Outside the Lines” (“OTL”, for short) followed by the current month and year. Did you get a fabulous gift of supplies for your birthday? Is your art featured in a newspaper article? Were you accepted into the Gallery you’ve had your eye on?
Any chatter not directly related to working with colored pencil such as: personal news, professional announcements, workshops, Happy Birthday wishes, adorable family photos (which we love to see!), etc. all belong in the current Outside the Lines. The only obvious exception to this rule is if you have news of a forum member passing away.

The current OTL is stickied at the top of the forum.
The Colored Pencil Library
Many newbies to the medium of colored pencil have the same concerns and questions. Before you post a thread to ask your question, spend some time in the Colored Pencil Library. You can find it as a sub-forum at the very top of the main colored pencil forum page. The Colored Pencil Library Index will help you find threads that can answer your questions, including reviews of different types of pencils, papers (and other supports), and accessories (like sharpeners). Before you post a reply in any of the threads in the library, *please* note the date of when it was started. Many of the threads are several years old and the original poster and participants are no longer active on WetCanvas. As a result, your question or comment may not receive much of a response.
Posting a New Thread
The Colored Pencil forum can be a busy place. In order to give everyone’s threads their full-share of time on the first page of the forum, we ask that folks *do not* start more than one thread a day. And one every other day is even better! If you have several works that you would like to show all at once, you are more than welcome to post them all in one thread!
Please only start threads in this forum for works that are colored pencil, water-soluble pencil, or mixed media that feature colored pencil in a dominant role.
Uploading Your Images
When you are ready to show images of your work to us, please upload them to WetCanvas by either using the image uploader (the little mountain icon at the top of the text box) or the attachment feature (found below the text box). If you use the uploader (mountain icon), your image will appear in the body of your post.
Please don’t link an image from another site. If you do, and if that image is ever removed or that site goes down, the thread and its comments become useless to future readers here on WC! You may link to another site if it is in addition to the actual work you have uploaded to the forum. Do keep in mind that the non-commercial use clause in the User's Agreement (see section 25) applies to these links.
Be sure your image is no larger than 800 pixels wide by 800 pixels high.
C&C - Comments & Critiques
Many folks ask for c&c on their works. This is shorthand for “comments and critique.” If you don’t ask for it, most folks won’t comment beyond applauding your effort. If there is an area you want help with, ask! What is bothering you might not be obvious to us. On the other hand, we may see something you missed! For more information on giving and receiving critiques, these are great articles from the Critique Center:
Six Techniques for Handling Criticism
Giving Critique - A Checklist for Critiquers
WIP - Works in Progress
If you’re posting a work that isn’t completed yet, let us know by including “WIP” in the thread title. This is shorthand for “work in progress.”
When your WIP is completed, send a private message to the CP forum moderator ocmd123 and ask to change the title of the thread for you from a WIP to Finished (or done, or completed, etc.). You can also ask to state a thread has been “Updated” if it is taking you a while to make some progress on your WIP.
Whew! I think that about covers everything! Feel free to contact any of us on the CP Team if you have questions or need some help!
Elaine (ocmd123)
So are you ready to share your work with us and get involved? Great!
