Decades ago when on holiday on Frazer Island Queensland Australia with hubby he took photos of the old ship wreck and this is one section that I loved the angle off. The photo was pre digital days and was hard to read but I just did a bit each day till months later with much relief I got it finished….

October 30, 2019 at 7:00 am #900447Oh that must have been super fun! Rust is always incredibly fun to render. I still rely on a magnifying glass for my printed photo references.
- Delo DelofashtOctober 30, 2019 at 7:10 am #900456You have made a superb job of this. You have given life to the rust. In a way it is a sad picture of a ship that once sailed over the oceans. I like the birds flying overhead. How did you get the sky so smooth on such a large piece?
VenaOctober 31, 2019 at 10:25 am #900453That made for an amazing work of art

November 1, 2019 at 2:02 am #900450Once again thanks to you all for commenting its always so uplifting to see someone likes my work.
Delo a magnifing glass was an absolute must on this project along with prints of many different values…
And yes it is the Maheno, its very sad to see these days, they had to fence off whats left because so much was being taken for “souvenires” along with people hurting themselves climbing all over it regardless of big signs warning of the danger to themselves and the ship….? people !
The ship was driven ashore during a cyclone in 1935.November 1, 2019 at 6:35 am #900455I’m still on my brown kick — and this set me to drooling! Wonderful composition and execution.

November 1, 2019 at 11:53 pm #900451Thanks Claire and I think Im back to the browns or at least the sepia and warm browns because I want to draw more birds but show how lovely the over looked ones are too.
Thanks Angela I had the magnifying glass out all the time for this one and it took me months because of eye strain I could only do an hour a day and at my age thats exhausting Lol
