First,
make sure the paper is thoroughly dry, leave overnight preferrably.
Using a weak mixture of payne's grey and raw sienna(blue/grey), a wash is applied to the whole water area. This will soften the edges and give a grey tone to the unpainted areas. To apply this wash, use a very soft large brush, so the previous washes will not be disturbed. |

The
superstructure was painted next, with paynes grey and raw umber. Fine aerials
and lines (ropes) were painted with a rigger brush.
Shading is added to radar dome. |

The buoy is painted with Alizarin Crimson/Light red, shaded on the left side and white paper showing on right for highlight. |
