When
my background dried, an unwanted hard edge was apparent.
Don't panic, this can be corrected! Watercolor can be corrected to some extent.

With
a nylon brush apply clear water to the hard edge, rubbing gently.
Then dab the wet edge with a tissue or piece of paper kitchen towel. This will lift some paint and produce a softened edge. |

You can see the separation of the pigments, especially on the edge. |

Apply
masking fluid to petal edges, varying the width.
A gap must be left between the edge of the front petals. White paper will be preserved while we apply the washes to the petals. |
