Watercolour Painting  My Way : Magnolias

When my background dried, an unwanted hard edge was apparent.

Don't panic, this can be corrected!

Watercolor can be corrected to some extent.

With a nylon brush apply clear water to the hard edge, rubbing gently.

Then dab the wet edge with a tissue or piece of paper kitchen towel. This will lift some paint and produce a softened edge.

Edge now softened and faded as intended.

You can see the separation of the pigments, especially on the edge.

Folded edge of petals are white, must be saved.
Apply masking fluid to petal edges, varying the width.

A gap must be left between the edge of the front petals.

White paper will be preserved while we apply the washes to the petals.
