The Dance X-posted in SW/Western

Its been so long since I posted any work on WC that I almost forgot how to do this.....

This piece is my first one of 2012. Happy to say I am going to concentrate on doing some work that I want to do this year. 2010-2011 has been spent entering shows, some themed, which required specific subject matter---and commissions. So happy to feel a little more free this year.

This is "The Dance" it is colored pencil (Prismas) on Strath Bristol Vellum, 16 X 20 (sort of large for me). I have always wanted to try solvent, so I did on the BG of this piece. It helped alot with creating the movement I wanted. The ref is from our own image library and is by Jolinda. I have known I wanted to do this piece for a couple years now. Love her two refs with cow horses!

Thanks for looking! Sean

Re: The Dance X-posted in SW/Western

Thanks everyone for your nice comments! I think the horse and cow are a little less red IRL...in fact the cow is more on the ochre side than red! But thanks!

As far as solvent, I used Grumbacher Oderless Thinner. Started off using a Q Tip (fail), then a blending stump (fail) and ended up using a very old, short small and hard bristled paintbrush which worked great for what I was wanting to do with it.
Thanks again for your nice comments!

Sean

Wonderful! Really appealed to me. Love it all. Keep up the great work.
PS If you have a photo program on your computer, you can adjust the color on your photo before you post it. The computer seems to brighten colors to much.
try it if you can and when you see your posts they will look better toned down.
