Re: The Spotlight - November 2011 - Fall Colors

Seems like the pumpkin is a run-away favorite this month. I finally had an hour today to paint....
both 7x9, mostly soft pastels, a few hard....

then since that one took only about 20 minutes, I decideed to do the leaves, as well...

about 29 minutes, as well...

Judi, your pumpkin is lovely! I like the way you caught the colors reflecting in the shadow and the way you rounded the pumpkin is perfect. It's three dimensional, solid and shimmering with color. Cool background, I like the rough texture and way you simplified it using the paper as the farther shadow, it draws less attention away from the pumpkin and its cast shadow.

Cool version of the autumn leaves too. Both of these rock.

You're right, the pumpkin is the smash hit of the photos this time. I might have a go at the leaves, they look cool too. I was tempted from the point this started and I've got my Winsor & Newtons out...

Wow, everyone's doing fabulous work! Love your pumpkins Ruthie and Judi! I gotta try those leaves, Robert and Irma, fantastic work. Frosty and elegant, both of your paintings. David, that looks a particularly plump and good for maybe fifty pumpkin pies.

Here's my departure painting of fall trees. Way too garish, but what do you do with colors as bright as those?

Chuas, your bright fall trees are so dramatic. I like the boldness, it's an interesting take on them. Very cool.

Irma, your leaves are beautiful. Love the texture on them and the soft colors that make them stand out.

David, wow, your pumpkin glows! That's incredible. Another fantastic take on an inspiring reference.

David, powerful value contrasts. I also like the scumbling on the table -- left a nice texture! Well done.

Sorry I just realized the above should have been in pastels. I wasn't thinking.
Don't know if someone can remove it.

Re: The Spotlight - November 2011 - Fall Colors

Jen,

It's the Spotlight ref, so I don't mind that it isn't in pastel! After all, it could be a preliminary sketch for a future pastel painting!

I'm not familiar with Inktence pencils, Is this just a brand name for a colored pencil or some special kind of pencil?

Don

Don, thanks will do one in pastels next!
Inktense watercolour pencils are made by Derwent . They are intense colour and can be used as colored pencils but they really pop when touched with water. I am still getting the hang of them but they are nice for quick sketches.

And have mainly bright colours i understanded. and only single time watersoluble when then dry when you wetted them they dont soluble again. i understanded Faber-Castell Albrecht Dürer works sameway but these Faber-Castells have wider colour range. But both have own good areas in colours.
