Once Upon a Time (Feb) Anne Anderson 1874-1930

Rapunzel

Our children's illustrator for February is the Scottish artist Anne Anderson 1874-1930

This artist did a lot of work, illustrating practically every popular children's book and fairy tale. I'm so glad I found her. Please copy or be inspired by her illustrations in any medium you want and post here, so we can share.

Thanx for making others aware of this fine work by a truly special woman and illustrator. She is highly collectible and makes ya smile, must have been a happy woman.

Here's my first try with Rumpelstiltskin - used watercolour pencil and ink (size 8" x 12" for those interested):-

Re: Once Upon a Time (Feb) Anne Anderson 1874-1930

Very good start, Inky...I like the effect of watercolor pencil and pen. Didn't you love this fairy tale? If you want to do one of her other vast collections of work that are not posted....go to it.

I keep digging up more illustrators of the Victorian period...so I hope we can continue these projects for a while. Maybe revisit a few.

What a great find Janet, I love her work. The Heidi pic is so classic and beautiful. I am off to see more of her work. Can't wait to have a go.

Inky fab work on the two pieces.

Lovely work, Inky. Very lively action.

Janet, love the dreamy quality of your illustration form Anderson. Is it Arabian nights?

I have still to look at some illustrations to study. Hopefully this week.

Grandma's graphics seems a really good site. Love that name for a site.

Re: Once Upon a Time (Feb) Anne Anderson 1874-1930

Janet - I am pleased to make Anne Anderson's acquaintance. and hope to do a copy or two.......

Inky - good job on the skipping Rumplestilskin, the blue sketch is very Hummell -ish! great job on the body language of all three....her ? leg position looks tricky but you nailed it!

Janet - the arbian night is enchanting.....all the shapes are puffy and soft like a pillow.
