Well folks...

As you know by now... many posts are missing in recent threads (mainly 1/3/12-current, however some older ones are missing too). We have made several attempts to merge the databases to get them back in sync, but the site is too massive to allow this to work properly.

So, on to the next strategy... I will be reporting all threads with missing posts to the techs so they can work on recovering the missing data. Here is where I'll need some help. If you know of threads that definitely have posts missing, please post the URL here and I will report them.

Hi Sarah,

On "The Goal Post" in the Soft Pastel Talk forum, my new posts vanish after I make them. They're not visible when I open the thread again. However, when I click "Advanced" instead of using Quick Reply to post, the earlier ones are all visible under the posting box where I can scroll down to see what I'm responding to.

In another thread on the same forum, Spotlight, Ruthie was confused about "more vanishing posts" too. Yet in another thread on the same forum my post showed up and created another page. So I'm not sure what the glitch is and why it's intermittent. It's a different "vanishing posts" glitch because they're sort of there and sort of not.

I don't have the link because when I try to use the link on the front page of the Pastel forum, it tells me the link can't be found and to click on the link provided to report to an administrator. Sorry...that's all the info I can find.

The soft pastel forum's monthly activity thread (The Spotlight) seems to have had its missing posts recovered, but is stuck on page 4. If one clicks on the link to the "last post" or the "first unread" the page that opens is page 4, even though there is a page 5. Page 5 is also listed, but when it is clicked on, you go to page 4.

This is a post of mine that I know has missing posts. The posts that are missing are from 1/4/12 forward, I don't know what the last date of the missing posts are but I do know they started going missing on 1/4.

I posted an update to the wip on 1/4, and I got responses on that date and probably a day or two after.

Is there a reason why I cannot edit a post on this thread but I can on others? I tried to do just that and found I had to enter another post, I could not edit my original one even though it was less than five minutes after I created the post. Thought I should mention it in case that is not normal....

Also, to verify Robert Sloan's observation, I did go to the Goal Post thread for January,

and the posts are visible up to and including page 5. Page 6 is visible only when you do the standard reply (not the quick one). All the posts on page 6 are shown below the box where you type your reply. I guess they are 'half there', but not 'all there'. I'll go see if there are any other threads that this is happening on.....

has a different problem. The last post is dated 1/12 and you can view it, yet on the list of threads page here

where it shows the last post and who posted, it says 1/9. It just so happens that the 1/9 post is by the same person that posted on 1/12, but I think it should show 1/12, and the thread should get sorted by that last post date of 1/12, not 1/9.

Time wise, if it matters, I knew the anticipated time of the maintenance, so I went to work responding to as many posts as I could about an hour and a half before "the time" in order to get caught up in the New Users forum, since I'd been "blocked" from there for so long, so after about an hour and a half of responding to one welcome thread after another, the site actually "shut down" 15 minutes before scheduled time, for me, so I thought well, got as much done as I could and I'll pick up where I left off, tomorrow. When tomorrow arrived all the entire hour and a half's work I'd done the night before was gone. So if time and place matters, that's what happened to me, plus, now my private messaging is blocked, so I'm no longer able to communicate rather discretely to any of my moderators or anyone else for that matter, nor receive.

Oh, and in my previous post, about page 136 missing, that page and those posts show up in my reply & preview page, but missing in the actual submitted posts.
