Delta Series Sketchbook
My first time using one of the Ivory papers that Stillman and Birn makes. This one is a Extra Heavy Weight 180 lbs in a 5.5 x 8.5 size.
quick sketch with a sharpie pen. . . then I added some portfolio oil pastels on the top and smeared around with finger. I like that even though the paper is cold press, it does not have TOO much texture, so the oil pastels smoothed out very nicely.

Re: Delta Series Sketchbook
Gorgeous color Rainy!
I think the ivory background will make highlights pop more!
I just got a Gamma (the light weight ivory paper) a few days ago, and am looking forward to using it. -Trying to tear myself away from the Epsilon and my fountain pens...
Isn't it interesting to find subjects that will look good on ivory paper? You made a good choice with the shiny blue shoes!
Cheers,
D.

Re: Delta Series Sketchbook
Well, no matter the paper, those sexy blue high heels are great!! Unique angle for a shoe still life. I prefer any soft/off white to bright white- it just glares at me I guess. But I have some, like Canson Mix Media, that I use and abandon now & then, for the heavy weight. (Frankly Strathmore 80 lb. does better with light waterbrush!) At 180 lb. I guess you can really use water easily. And acrylics? What are your plans?? Show us more!

Great drawing of the shoes, Rainy! Aren't the S&B sketchbooks wonderful?

Re: Delta Series Sketchbook
lovely! and I love cream or ivory paper - I agree about the softness and lack of glare.

Re: Delta Series Sketchbook
You captured the shine of the shoes so well... my cousin actually have high heels shoes in just that color! She is almost 180 cm tall, and in those heels she looks stunning!

Re: Delta Series Sketchbook
Thank you very much everyone. Personally, I don't think I could walk in those shoes, but they would look great on my daughters.
Here is page two in my Delta. . . this was done plein air with a pen and two colors of watercolor and then some touch up when I got home with a bit of other media.
Joshua Tree

Re: Delta Series Sketchbook
Gorgeous, those colours look so vibrant!
I like the way you've filled the whole page.
En plein aire? How clean and dry that area looks! Great stuff, I live in a swamp half the year...trade you?

Very nice, Rainy! Joshua trees make such interesting subjects to paint and photograph.

Re: Delta Series Sketchbook
Thanks John and Dragoon.
Plenty of joshua trees around here and they are protected so you cannot take them down if they are on your property either.

Really like your last two pages, really look like mini paintings. BTW just went and read your blog and really relating to your last few posts. I wasn't able to leave a comment unfortunately.

Re: Delta Series Sketchbook
All three are lovely sketches. The Joshua tree is my favourite, I love the texture of the trunk.
