Wonderful drawings, oh my goodness... I have to mention Ai's buildings and her daughters great drawing and Joan's landscapes in particular....sorry I have no time to comment on everybody's work.

I did get time to do one little sketch last night. Sketch #1 "From a Tree" (and I couldn't remember the # of the Hunt ) but hey! I did a sketch!
It's a little bundle of moss that we picked up in the forest on Saturday. The trees were full of these little clumps.

Watercolour, ink and graphite in my little sketchbook

Re: Scavenger Hunt #252 - Jan 6 - Jan 14

looks like all the posts from yestreday have gone missing!
I will have to post my first set again, but on the other hand I got to see additions by Joan and Maisie
all my comments have dissappeared too, but to highlight:
Joan you church is wonderful and your picnic basket, fruit and merlot too
Ai, fabulous group of sketchers including your lovely daughter, you both rock with your sketches of the Grand Palace
Paul, great set of drawings , and loving fleetwood mac and yeah for timmys!
Maise- fabulous bit of lichen

here are the first 11 again

1 tall - vase
2 short - candles
3 round- dragon- I drew a bigger version for you
4 art- one of my paintings over the fireplace
5 bottle (wine and special edition wisers (100yrs for our team)
6 pottery - jug and small bottle
7 has peel- banana
8 food related- fruit bowls
9 rock or stone- alabaster turtle
10 tastes good (apples, or wine)
11 smells good (flowers or absinthe- got this in france a couple yrs ago , the box has a painting of Vangogh on it)

I have more but will have to post later today

it is very disheartening when the powers that be, take this site down for upgrades, and we lose all our work...not uncommon in the IT world, as I work in it, and try to support clients who are going thru the same thing we are here on WC .

Beautiful work everyone! I'm hoping to do some this week before the deadline.

Just a quick question that I posted on the old thread before it disappeared - what's a blind contour? Drawing without looking??

Yes Talia, you draw without looking at your paper, instead you hand follows your eye as it follows the contours of the objects.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #252 - Jan 6 - Jan 14

Clearly not an expert on drawing here but my understanding is that you are not suppose to look at your paper as you draw. It is suppose to be a continuous line without looking, that said I think if you have to start another line or shape within the outline or silhouett you can look at your drawing to get a start......... which is what I did..... I made the continuous line ( out line of the bottle and cap without looking at the paper... then when I went to add the label I looked down at the drawing to see where to start then continued without looking.... Not sure if that is correct but that is my understanding and how I did mine.....

"J", good thing I never finish a list. I did at least sketch. I love "Jo" and your "round". Clever. Nice bunch of sketches and soooo many to start.

Paul, Nice sketches. Your pottery is cute and great perspective on the art related stuff. Great building. Love waterwheels. Your baseball is neat. I like the wreath and basket, too. Very convincing basket. Wow, as I keep going I see you have 25 done. Cool. Good job on your blind contour.

Ai, how wonderful to have a sketching visitor. Iris looks beautiful and is sure doing well with her sketches, too. I like your sketches, look like postcards!

Joan, like your challenge and smells good. Your lettering always amazes me. Did you use gauche for the white letters? Land is so beautiful. Yummy tastes good. The textured walls is neat. Lovely still life and yummy looking wine. Heh, heh. Your tall and short look so cute.

Irwin, I warned you about Tim Horton's. Makes me so "homesick" for Canada. Sigh..... I didn't drink Latte there then, but ooooh would like to now. You did a great still life and your bottle of wine draws me in ... more ways than one.

Meisie, your lichen is lovely. Nice colors and shading.

Bonnie, you are really going fast this time. I love your arrangement. Nice watercolor and ink.

I sketched in the same old book with the Prismacolor chisel point and then a Prismacolor 08.

Number 1, basket with the blind contour.
Number 2, bottle with label
Number 3, smells good - popcorn
Number 4, round - orange
Number 5, with rind - grapefruit. Pink grapefruit from south Texas is so popular here for Christmas. It is so sweet, calls for salty dogs when we are cooking. (Non drinkers, salty dogs are grapefruit, gin and salt)
Number 6, feather
Number 7, water
Number 8, sky

Thanks for your answers re the blind contour - I will be giving that a go later tonight!

Here's the only sketch I've done so far: Something with a peel (banana).
Sorry about the bad photo quality but I only have my phone to take pictures with!

artastic: Nices work.. I like how you have many of the items laid on on the table. Particularly like the flowers and the box with Vangogh on it...

Joan: Reindeer look cute... the little one in particular looks soft and squishy... nice idea for the art related.

Jo: Nice basket, great detail and shape. I never really got into trying the blind contour drawing but this hunt has peaked my curiosity, well done. Like how you have set up the bottle, popcorn ( one of my many favorite snacks), and orange. The cross hatching is very interesting. Love pink grapefruit... ah I obviously have a food problem ........ nice feather and I really like that landscape...

I have the last 3 sketches that I have been trying to post but no luck.. for some reason I keep running into a problem... I will keep trying and hopefully I will succeed shortly... Later

Re: Scavenger Hunt #252 - Jan 6 - Jan 14

Below were done in my 4x6 inch Derwent sketch book.

#8 feather -- while working for sometime, I turned around to my office window... and walla this cute feather was there at my window for 10min. So I put him down in both a blind contour and a quicky of wc pencils and pencil

#9 smell-good -- perfume, done with wc, and sepia graphite

#10 with rinds -- clementines, wc and a brown Stabilo pen
#11 tastes good -- a mangosteen, wc, sepia graphite, Stabilo pen

#12 food related -- my daughter's kitchen fish toy, wc, Stabilo pen, and wc pencil

#13 fur -- my squirrel brush, wc, sepia graphite, Stabilo pen

#14 bottle with label -- I did this Erdinger beer bottle too short...
#15 relaxing -- a tiny bottle of lavender oil

#16 tall -- Miss Iris
#17 short -- Miss Lily sitting on rolls of Cellox

#18 sounds good -- Tone playing piano
