Thanks moscatel Thanks for letting me know A Masterstudy can be a considerable time commitment and sometimes its good to know when not to start it, too many unfinished works can get frustrating.

Hello Everyone,

Here's my start on my copy of Elias Van den Broeck's
'Still Life With Roses' [I think that is the title]

This is a very rough copy, I just did a quick sketch
on the canvas then started painting. I'm most interested
in trying to get the lighting right and don't mind [too much]
that the details of my drawing are not quite accurate.
Now, it needs to dry for a couple of hours before I can continue.

Patricia , it looks great! You have established the value structure perfectly, I love the soft colors and your "fuzzy" drawing will make it easier to go in and selectively sharpen edges and add detail. It will look great!

moscatel and friesin : I'm back from Florence it was beautiful! I spent long hours in the museums, studying mainly Titian and Raphael but also other renaissance painters. Also, in Florence it is easy to understand how architecture, sculpture, and fresco painting, and panel painting were all connected and interrelated at that time, most painters being active in several of these disciplines. I have learned so much and taken away much inspiration.

Hi Marypat , so nice of you to say that, yes it is always a learning experience to see how different painters tackle the same type of painting with equally pleasing results. Hope you can participate another time

Patricia , the detail on the leaf looks great, you are doing a great job capturing the lighting. Did you find you had to thin the paint a lot, or did you use it straight from the tube?

I will get back to both of mine on the weekend.
