Re: All Media On-Going Sketching Thread Part 12

More good ones for sure, Sandra. I bet it was different drawing the plane. Cars and planes usually are.

So this image popped into my brain as I was falling asleep last night. I thought pretty simple, so I will try to recreate it. I didn't get it quite right, but in the vicinity, I think......
It's not supposed to make any sense. Just trying to get it down. If that makes any sense.

Jake, that is a very effective sticker. You are getting very good with graphics work!!

I have some really fantastic dreams these two nights but only had time to draw one.

This one was incessant teal background that kept calling me.

Stillman & Birn Epsilon around 2 inch x 5 inch.

Faber Castell Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils and wash

This morning I had a dream of machines (Megatron like) ramming through my town and I was running for my life - my town being Coliseum and Roman styled. It's all the medicine that I've been taking that's tripping me.

Here are some sketches.

Cow parts

manga practice

Practice from magazine - Derwent watersoluable pencil

Here's me really out to lunch.

Sakura Koi watercolor, waterbrush and Pentel Pocket Calligraphy brushpen and colored pencil.

All of these others are on Pentalic 70 lb sketchbook 5.5x8 inch.

Re: All Media On-Going Sketching Thread Part 12

Joe, I really like these few entries. The power woman with only a fur coat definitely has an agenda. What an efficient way of doing a big fur coat! And of course, love that she's naked. Big guy and small masked man must have a partnership of some sort! And colored piece! Neat.

Some doodles.

These are based on Virtual Pose book 2.

Derwent Drawing pencils

Derwent Inktense pencils

The bigger one checking out her anklet was done with Pentel Calligraphy brushpen. While it's superb doing hair with it, it's a bit too soft to control for figures. I did a couple of small ones below with Chinese brush and ink and like those better. The green outlined one didn't fit my proportions and so when I inked it with Chinese brush, I altered the lines. It's much more controllable definitely with brush.

This is my favorite piece that I designed at lunch time. I was practicing hair and then posed my own seductive pose with Cretacolor woodless pencil and then Pentel Calligraphy Pocket brushpen.

Re: All Media On-Going Sketching Thread Part 12

Some very quick doodles.

First one is based on Virtual Pose. The other two are my own designs.

Derwent watercolor pencil and Stabilo Woody 3 in 1 crayon and Derwent Inktense. A Mess. Not worth the time to use watermedia for these.

Prismacolor pencil - not very erasable but very soft and easy to use.

This last one was done with Caran D'Ache Pablo. Needs a bit more pressure.

For cartoon and manga , colored pencils are easy enough to use and still add colors and I could freely use lines everywhere.

Talk about dream art! Joe your eyeball beam man is fantastic! Love the fur coat lady- can't tell you why...

Sandra your poses in action positions are getting so good! I am beginning to practice poses, heaven knows I have bought a lot of books on the subject!!!

I keep eating ice cream before bed but I don't get the good dreams to paint! Must concentrate on recall and give the dream drawing a try. I do sketch some days right when I get up.

Re: All Media On-Going Sketching Thread Part 12

Thank you, Candace. For you to hallucinate or remember your dreams, you have to sleep very long, longer than you need, so that you have fantastical dreams in your deep sleep one after the other. Those are the ones you recall most. If you have just enough sleep and wake up to an alarm, you probably would not remember.

I have bought many anatomy books but now that I think about it, I only needed one, and then the virtual pose or the live pose site to get the muscle tones. Practice, practice, practice. This is 3 years of practicing to be able to design more freely on my own.

This morning's quick practice. The dreaded Erengi oil pastels that keep dropping crumbs where I don't need it. Earthbound 7x10 inch kraft sketchbook.

A to Z - George Inness

This one is for Once Upon a Time/July-Rene Bull 1875-1942 ,

The background is some spilled Dr. Ph Bombay India Ink teal color that I slathered over my Academie Heavyweight 80 lb sketchbook 8.5 x 11 inch. This is 1/4 of the page.

Japanese bruah pen which is drying up - black and grey. I thought about it fading and will have to redo this if I want to put it on the wall.

Uniball white gel pen.

This brush pen is the felt tip one and I wished for the figure, I used the Calligraphy brush pen instead because I already have an outline. For sketching, brushpen is better because you could control the line, but for inking, Calligraphy brush pen is better.

I've redesigned Bull's work. I don't fancy women without arms.

The following is an illustration of what could go wrong with Derwent Inktense pencils. Everything. The pencil drags so hard my fingers are tired even before I could finish the bountiful hair. Geez. The problem with this pencil is that it is really meant to be dissolved and so it's not a coloring pencil so to say. The stickiness drives me crazy.

So I took out my Lyra Polycolor, the exact opposite - soft!! and drew the top one here. The bottom one is done with Bruzyneel colored pencil.

In the end, I chose to use a red Shinhan Marker for the lips. Then a Shinhan Marker blender and blended all the hair. It's a solvent and it blends quite well.

And finally, a nice pose here off a Jay Sean video. I was just practicing her upper body but went ahead and filled up the page.

Derwent Inktense for darks and Cheap Michael's watercolor palette for red.

Re: All Media On-Going Sketching Thread Part 12

Sandra, Love your cityscape from the OP challenge, city in motion! You use a lot of Dr. Ph Martin Bombay India Ink-- do you ever use the acrylic type of ink? It might be intended to go with acrylic paints as a watery option. What do you especially like about the India ink uses? O- I also love your "cow parts" series! Some of your cattle poses are fantastic

I do everything wrong for the crazy dreaming!! I USED TO sleep many more hours and recall wacky dreams -years ago! But now I sleep only 6 hrs & alarm wakes me. I recall nightmares sometimes, maybe I can make art out of them. Good insights.

Re: All Media On-Going Sketching Thread Part 12

Candace, thank you.

I don't have acrylic ink but I have Golden fluid acrylic paint. Acrylic ink is probably more liquidy than Golden fluid acrylic paint which has a slight thickness compared to pure Bombay india ink which is comparable to any Higgins ink. I don't really like fluid acrylics. It's not liquidy enough for most of my pieces. I bought the two sets of Dr. Ph Martin Bombay India ink because it has 24 vibrant colors and I don't have to mix acrylic colors. On oil pastel, watercolor doesn't go on, nor gouache. This Dr. Ph Martin Bombay india ink is not supposed to be lightfast. Most inks are not. My sketchbook works are all fine after 3 years and I don't even attempt to hang them. It's just fun to do explosive colors. But these days, I'm using them more and more with oil pastels to fill white holes and augment colors and I'll probably hang this one on the wall to test how long the blue will last.

India ink dries extremely fast and has a shiny gloss to it unlike most gouache and watercolor which dries matt. It adds to the pix especially if you do insects. That glow and shine is beautiful in real life. Having said that, because it dries almost instantly, it's very difficult to control in large patches of colors. This ink is good to do details with or when you don't mind blotches in abstract pieces.

Jake, that is a cool image. Would be a great logo... or a bumper sticker as someone said.

Sandra, I really like your manga girl and the canyon scene is awesome.

Here is one I did the other day. . . also did a blog post about it if anyone interested.
