As Long as Grass Grows and Wind Blows

Hi everyone, I'm very new to WC and fairly new to painting. A lifelong doodler/sketcher who jumped headfirst into oil painting almost two years ago. I originally posted this in the WC Gallery and was pointed to the SW and W forum by tyree. (thanks!)

Wow - what a wonderful way to spend time, perusing the excellent art in this forum! I have so much to learn, and this seems to be the best place I've found to move forward in art on the net. I have mostly worked on wildlife in landscapes, but have tried a few other things as well for fun. I did this painting last July, 12x24, it was inspired by my love for Charles Russell's art.

Hi Larry and welcome!
You won't find a kinder , more welcoming bunch than the folks here in the SW forum and since most of us are also big fans of charlie's work ... Well I reckon you'll fit right in!
This is a great piece and you show real promise as a painter if you've only been doing it for a couPle of years- looking forward to seeing more.
Each month we have two challenges that you might enjoy- one is simple quick sketches and the other is for more finished works based on photos one of the members supplies. Check them out- lots of fun!
Deb

Hi Larry, and welcome!

I'm so glad you've come here. As Deb says, you will fit right in with artwork such as this and the love for Charlie Russell's work.

You have a beautiful painting here! I really like the warmth of the piece, as well as the richness of the landscape. The bison has that very tall, commanding presence that bison seem to have. Great work! I hope to see more. Feel free to join us in the 'Round the Campfire thread to get to know everyone a bit, if you'd like to.

Welcome, Larry. You found a great place here. Nice painting! Lots of good things going on in it. Excellent job painting the buffalo, which seems to me would be difficult with WC.

Tons of learning opportunities here in Wet Canvas. When I first signed up, I spent hours and hours browsing and reading the hundreds of learning threads in various forums. Many hours reading in composition and color theory forums until I thought my head was going to explode. Have fun, hope to see more paintings from ya.

Larry..welcome to the SW forum. Some of the members are not 'all there' but in time you will come to appreciate their contributions. Nice work here and a good choice on an artist to emulate.

Re: As Long as Grass Grows and Wind Blows

Question for mods - I've been reading the disappearing posts stuff, but unable to communicate, as my entire registration seemed to vanish as well. I finally tried and was able to set up a new registration (under the same username), but am starting back at post #1. Any way to combine my former posts with this newly re-registered username?

Also thanks to everyone for the kind comments on this painting - I've been on wetcanvas everyday enjoying the art but unable to log in.

Re: As Long as Grass Grows and Wind Blows

I'm sorry that your registration seems to have been reset, Larry. I know it isn't much comfort, but this has been happening to some other members, as well, unfortunately. I'm afraid I don't have news as to what could be causing this or if it can be undone as of now. Hang in there. I hope that, too, can somehow be resolved. I'm not sure if the two username accounts can be merged or not either...

Time will tell, I guess.

Nice job on this, Larry! Sorry you got caught in the recent glitches on the site...things seem to be back to normal now, at least let's hope so. Somehow I missed this thread when you started it, but glad I found it. I am also a Charlie Russell fan, and have been through the Charlie Russell Museum in Great Falls, MT, several times.
