Child of Madagascar
Child of Madagascar
Mixed Media
Watercolor & Acrylic
1/8th Sheet Fabriano Aristico Soft Press Paper
I've shown both the full and cropped version of the painting. It began as a watercolor than moved in with acrylics. Many thanks for the permission and use of the reference photo provided by babasteve of Flickr.
I have a tendency to make a child look older and realize that the length from the bottom of the nose to the chin is too long, causing the older look. Still it has all been good practice. Suggestions and critiques are most welcomed.

Re: Child of Madagascar
Ann, thank you letting us see this.
It has it all --- superb brushwork, strong colours, great tonal control, good underlying bone structure --- and a personal learning reminder !
Great artistry.

Re: Child of Madagascar
Wow -- I think it's phenomenal. If you hadn't mentioned the length between nose and chin, I'd not have noticed! After reading your comment, I did a mental graph and can see what you're talking about, but for some reason it really doesn't stand out as an oops! Outstanding work on the fleshtones and those eyes -- they are what REALLY speak to me! This is a piece you should be very proud of!!

I don't do figures at all...and agree with Kay and Brenda. Her little button nose says "child"...and I absolutely love the local color in her face. The entire painting is just so soft. Very nice...

Didn't look at the reference photo, but this, by itself, is very very nice. The mouth, eyes, expression - all very compelling

Lovely work Ann - I too appreciate all the color you used in the flesh tones and hair - well done!

Re: Child of Madagascar
This is a really good painting. We artists often make a mistake when we do eyes. I know for a fact that every human being's eyes are asymmetrical. You hold a mirror, & check. I am NOT being critical here, but the child's left eye is too far away & slightly higher.
