In Memory of Maggie Price

We lost a living legend in the pastel world, beloved Maggie Price. I didn't know Maggie but I truly feel a sense of loss. Her work is legendary, anybody that paints in pastel knows who she is and what she's done for the medium. Her contributions will always be remembered as inspirational and ground breaking, her accomplishments will live on forever.

The art community has a hole in it's heart, she will be sorely missed. She was and will always be an inspiration. Maggie, rest in peace.

Oh my Chris: What a shock. She certainly was an inspiration and such an asset to the pastel world. Rest in Peace, Maggie.

Re: Sad news......

I always blamed Maggie for my addiction to pastels. My wife bought me a copy of the Pastel Journal and that started my love for this medium. Maggie was a pioneer and probably didn't even know how many lives she touched. She will be missed dearly. Thanks Maggie. Rest in peace.

Re: Sad news......

I just bought her book on light and shadows just yesterday. I've had the earlier one for a couple of years. RIP Maggie. Hopefully the pastels in heaven won't have so much dust.

Re: Sad news......

Oh no! That is tragic, sad news indeed. I was privileged to take one of her workshops and she was a lovely, lovely woman and a wonderful, considerate teacher. I know of no one who has done more to further the development and recognition of pastel painting. The world will feel the loss of her passing deeply and for many, many years. Peace go with you Maggie.

Doug, I too got hooked on Giraults as a result of a generous gift from Maggie - a few broken samples that changed my life.

Re: Sad news......

When you met Maggie, she made you feel as if she'd known you forever. It was such a gift. Her other gift to us was her goal to get us all happily painting with pastels. She will be missed, but thankfully she left us books and the Pastel Journal.

Re: Sad news......

Was shocked when this was the first news I read on my Facebook timeline . . . not the way to start a day. I almost took a workshop with Maggie once, but it was canceled at the last minute.

Interacting with her on Facebook made her seem more like a close friend and personal teacher. She was generous and an amazing person . . .

My heart is breaking today . . . sending her family love and wishes for peace . . .

Re: Sad news......

You will be missed - I first met you at IAPS when I was asked to help with the Girault booth while you were teaching a session.

Your efforts through the Pastel Journal will always be remembered by the pastel community.

What a tragic loss to the pastel world. She will be sadly missed. My thoughts are with her family and of course, all our pastel friends...she gave us so much.
